Almost a day later, it was weird to hear Kansas City's East Side cheer for a politico in action. Mayor Sly James in construction gear while wearing a bow tie was masterful image that is sure to resonate with voters.
Here's a quick round-up of some of the better headlines that resulted from the media event:
Dangerous buildings to be demolished
Mayor takes down dangerous building as demolition program begins
Dangerous Buildings Set to Disappear

Let's not forget that Kansas City cheered when former Mayor Funkhouser passed a somewhat similar steel plate ordinance . . . The legislation is mostly ignored nowadays and local streets are lined with steel plates.
And so the Mayor's neighborhood agenda is nice but let's not forget Mayor Sly's other big plans . . .
- TKC EXCLUSIVE - Just wait for another big 2013 Tax Increase Campaign.
- The Downtown Convention Hotel will soon bust this City's budget.
- And we're still on track to build $100 Mil. Toy Train Street Car that only pushes people about a mile and a half.
So, like it or not, there's still a question about Mayor Sly's priorities despite the best of intentions and expertly planned media events.
Streetcar and new convention hotel definitely are on the way. Please do not forget that he thinks the City needs a new airport terminal. Once these projects are out of the way, maybe Sly can turn his attention to the people that live in the City.
ReplyDeleteDid he have the proper union card and any state certification to operate that equipment?
ReplyDeletebetter photo would have been a photoshopped pic from the terminator.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine the howls if a White mayor would have pulled that stunt?
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean Tony's mom will be torn down? She has not been occupied in years.
ReplyDeleteWhat ever happened to Tony's Mom anyway seems she's vanished off the radar. Maybe her kid is embarrassing her to to death and she doesn't want to show her face in public?
ReplyDeleteNo, I can't imagine the "howls" if a white mayor stepped up demolition of dangerous buildings and drew media attention by his personal appearance at the first site.
ReplyDeleteKnow why? Because no "white mayor" ever did it.
But you tell me. Would these howls you are hearing in your head be anything like the how we are hearing from you because a black mayor did it?
yup, it's just a publicity stunt. But ya know, if you don't do that, local television won't even cover it! It's all about the visuals! Play to the cameras or be ignored!
ReplyDeleteThe Slyinator
ReplyDeleteI see Negative Tony woke up. Mr. "Everything is fucked up!"
ReplyDeleteInterest and attention to this by the media will last maybe one week and at city hall an even shorter time.
ReplyDeleteAnd ifa year from now you try to find how much of this "dedicated" money was spent on demolishing buildings and how many were actually torn down, you'll find that only a few of the derelicts are gone and that that "pot" of money has been used for the newest really big thing to be sold to city hall.
So start the bull dozer, launch the balloons, cut the ribbon, get the pr shots, and then on to the next big thing.
No accountabiity for anything.
