Demolition Prep For KCPD East Patrol Starts While Holdouts Remain Steadfast

Fighting City Hall is a rough business but it's important to note that opponents to the upcoming East Patrol project remain committed saving their homes.

The City has resorted to using eminent domain as they push the project forward. Even more discouragingly . . . They're starting demotion meetings.

Take a look:

City will hold mandatory pre-bid conference for East Patrol Campus demolition and abatement on Sept. 28

The City of Kansas City, Mo., has issued an invitation to bid for the demolition and abatement of seven properties located in the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department's East Patrol Division Station and Crime Lab Campus project area.

The City has also scheduled a mandatory pre-bid conference on Friday, Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. Following the pre-bid conference, the City will host a Section 3 contractor networking session. Both the pre-bid conference and the Section 3 networking session will be held at the Gem Theater at 1601 E. 18th St., Kansas City, MO 64108.

The networking event will provide subcontractors and Section 3 Certified Business Concerns with an opportunity to become acquainted with the prime contractors who will bid the project, with the goal of facilitating the development of joint-venture-oriented partnerships. Copies of attendance lists for the pre-bid conference and networking session will be posted at www.kcmoplanroom.org following the meetings.

Because the project is a designated HUD Section 3 project, which includes federal funds, there will be increased contract opportunities for Section 3 Certified Business Concerns located in and around the project area. Businesses interested in being Section 3 certified can visit the City's Section 3 office in the Historic Lincoln Building at 1601 E. 18th St., Kansas City, MO 64108.

"The City is firmly committed to not only meeting, but exceeding, the Section 3 goals on this project," said Eric Bosch, city architect. "This project is committed to at least 10 percent Section 3 goals on the construction phase of the project."

The $57 million East Campus project is located in the City's Third District with the following boundaries: Prospect Avenue on the east; Brooklyn Avenue on the west; 26th Street on the north; and 27th Street on the south. The project components include the East Patrol Division Station, a state-of-the-art crime lab, a multi-purpose center and an evidence and property depository.

Bidding documents are available online to all interested parties on the Kansas City, Mo., Plan Room, www.kcmoplanroom.org, and bids will be received by the City until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012. All addenda, including any changes to the bid opening date, will be posted at www.kcmoplanroom.org. For additional information regarding the Demolition Abatement Package No. 1 mandatory pre-bid conference and Section 3 contractor networking event, contact Eric Bosch, city architect, at eric.bosch@kcmo.org or 816-513-2517, and Jo Lipari, contract administrator, General Services Department, at jo.lipari@kcmo.org or 816-513-0014.

  1. Trust me, 99.9℅ of the cops of east patrol don't want the new doughnut shop built there anyways..

  2. The 99.9% should speak up! Because the City has HUD & all other governments believing this is the prime location. It's the dumbest thing! Most of those homes aren't even in East Patrol; they're in Central Patrol. What a way for the government to act. It's completely foolish! Plus, take a look at the details. There's something very fish about this project. I'm sure they're hoping to demo all of the property while the holdouts fight in court and ooops... all of the properties have been demolished. Now, we have to build it here. What a scam. More money laundering.

  3. There's nothing fishy about this at all. At least no more fishy than what usually goes on when there are a few dollars placed on a table in this vicinity.
Just check out who did just fine selling the property, who was on the BOPC and helped facilitate the transaction, and who pushed hardest for this location behind the scenes.
KCMO isn't about good public policy EVER.
It'sabout egos, personalities, insiders, and the "right" folks doing well for themselves.
And now, on to the streetcar and the taxpayer-funded downtwon hotel. Some folks are just back from the political conventions and they have a whole new bunch of convention crap to sell us!
