The Biz Journal reports a bit of news that's above our pay grade . . .
"Bridgette Williams has replaced Clyde McQueen as chair of the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City. McQueen, president and CEO of the Full Employment Council, served out his term that expired Sept. 21. Williams is deputy director of the Heavy Constructors Association of Greater Kansas City. Before that, she led the Kansas City AFL-CIO for 15 years."

I most towns it would be economic development Council or committee. In this town, commune is more likely. And by the way, a union hack running an EDC is pretty fucking ironic. I guess it need to be the right kind of economic development for these folks.

Could anyone be a bigger hack than McQueen?
And the purpose of the EDC is very straightforward: Take the taxpayers' money and give it to deveopers and bond attorneys with as little public input or scrutiny as possible.
Then take credit for making the sun come up in the morning and hope that the public doesn't find out how the "project" actually turns out.
And every time a new annouincment is made, you can be sure that the city, school district, library, and all the rest of the folks who need money to provide services to the public have lost again.
That's welcomed news.

ReplyDeleteWith the way the Full Employment Council has been run (for far too many years), no one seriously goes there with the hope or prospects of actually finding a job. It's more of a money laundering scheme. 100% on target with your comment "MONEY and who gets some." McQueen can now remove his snout from the trough and come up for air.

ReplyDeleteBridgette Williams will be good in this role. Yes, she has worked most of her life in the union movement, but in those roles, she has proven herself an excellent manager and able to work with a very wide variety of people. She is super smart and easy to work with.
