TKC EXCLUSIVE QUESTION!!! HAS MAYOR SLY SOLD OUT THE KCPD RANK AND FILE BY SUPPORTING LOCAL CONTROL?!?!
We already know about Mayor Sly's enthusiasm for local control and a strong Mayor form of government . . .
But here's a more important observation . . .
THERE ARE FEW IF ANY MEMBERS OF THE KCPD WHO SUPPORT LOCAL CONTROL WHEN ALLOWED TO SPEAK FREELY!!!
That is Kansas City FACT and anybody who knows a cop can attest to the veracity of that statement.
But Mayor Sly's role in this hot mess has now come into question . . .
Remember that the Mayor promised to be mediator but hasn't done much to ease tension in the KCPD over benefit battles and interdepartmental concerns. In fact, Mayor Sly justifiably backs Chief Forté but doesn't seem to have a larger perspective of the KCPD as an institution.
We like Chief Forté too but realize that the KCPD is about more than one Administration while also noting that the rank and file are the people protecting Kansas City on our very rough streets.
So . . . Once again we ask . . .
IS MAYOR SLY DOING THE RIGHT THING BY PUSHING FOR LOCAL CONTROL BEHIND THE SCENES?!?!
Mainstream media doesn't want us to know about this decision until it's already said and done but this topic is simply too important to keep secret.
DEVELOPING . . .
And exactly what is Mayor Sly's justification for supporting Forte? His actions? His position? His Race? All of the above?
ReplyDeleteHow to build morale in an organization:
ReplyDelete1. Buy paperless ticketing equipment without any input from the folks who are going to have to use it and provide training months in advance of actually getting the equipment.
2. Have absolutely no idea of what's actaully happening on the street except for what you're told by the chief and command staff.
3. Demand that the officers join the city's medical insurance program even though it will cost them moe out=of-pocket and have fewer benefits, and extort them to do that by holding the promise of raises hostage for officers who have received no salary increases in three years.
4. Approve a $163,000 salary for the new chief and make it RETROACTIVE to the date of his promotion.
5. Demonstrate repeatedly the low priority placed on public safety by finding money for stretcar studies, All Star Games, and all manner of business subsidies, but none for folks in the field actually doing the job.
6. Offer ABSOLUTELY NO IDEAS about what should be done about crubing the violence that is being prevented only by the lack of local control.
7. Make a big push for local control of the KCPD with the notion that the council and mayor will become MORE involved in public safety than they are now.
8. It reminds me of the old saying in the military: There'll be no more support for officers in the filed until morale improves.
What's surprising is that there are any serious committed professionals left in this department.
"We like Chief Forte, too"- Tony Botello
ReplyDeleteREALLY??? He's an unqualified political hack hired only because of the color of his skin and his lack of backbone. Not only that, he is willing to lie and commit illegal acts (i.e. financial fraud) for personal profit.
Sly sold out the KCPD rank and file a long time ago. This is no surprise.
ReplyDeleteThe current systems wastes millions a year to keep the "kingdom" away from responsible management. Health insurance is a great example, but there is much more---hundreds of unnecessary civilian employees than cities of our size. Little accountability throughout the years.
ReplyDeleteBasically an army of occupation run by a board appointed by Governors from St.Louis or Springfield.
Whatever you think about state control, local control would be far far worse.
DeleteDo KC citizens think that KCPD is so malformed and unruly now - as they were under Pendergast - that the department still needs "state oversight?" What an insult to good officers and my city council. Once STLS switches to local control, our police officers would be the only large force in the US that has to have outside oversight? I don't believe that for a minute.
ReplyDeleteThis is 30 years overdue and all but a done deal. Get it done now. Everyone will get used it within a year.
Don't turn the argument as if this is being done for the officers. We need state oversight because of local politician not because of the rank and file. Everyone can see right through your twist of words.
DeleteWe need it because of YOUR city council and mayor!
DeleteWhether you're for local control of the police or not, it's probably good to examine the behavior, performance, and results of the folks you would be handing control of the police TO.
ReplyDeleteMore oversight of fiscal responsibility and appropriate use of money, setting priorities and managing to them, engaging and informing the public HONESTLY about issues, and holding employees accountable for results?
The mayor and council?
Before you could say "All Aboard", pension money would be being transferred to the streetcar account!
If the public buys into local control as competence and management progress, they'll buy into ANYTHING!
the people on the city council should not have any control over the KCPD. Have you seen these people talk? Act? ANYONE can run for these offices. its like giving a loaded gun to some nut who has no idea about keeping it safe.
ReplyDeletehas any mayor or city council member of even been on a ride along? probably not. they dont give a shit they just want power. if they cared they would at least sign up to start going on weekend ride alongs to see what really happens on the street.
Sly has turned into a power hungry politician who is overlooking his job for the thrill of power. He is hurting Kansas City with his control of the Fire Dept and now he wants local control of the Pd. Thank God we have a legislature who does not agree.
ReplyDeleteSly want to control the police so he can have some input on his sons arrests.
ReplyDeleteI just want to make sure I am following this correctly. So the citizens of KCMO have elected these officials to office. Now after electing them to office they don't trust them to do their jobs. The problem is not who controls the PD, the problem is you keep electing idiots. Maybe the PD should become more active in promoting better qualified candidates. I have a dead tree stump in my front yrsd you could nominate for the next election, definitely a step up.
ReplyDeleteThats the whole reason for state control. The police cannot participate in elections or campaigns. They used to under city control which is why the city lost control. Thanks for making the point for state control.
DeleteThis only shows how misinformed tony is. If the city gets local control, Sly will not control the PD, the city manager would. This is a manager council form of govt. the manager controls all depts. not the mayor. So you have a non elect running the dept. All that means is the PD will form a real union and have collective bargaining. Hell, works great for the FD, they get raises and new equipment when ever they want.
ReplyDeleteSly controls the city manager jack ass! If you've learned anything about Sly, it's that he has others do his dirty work. That way they take the fall & he keeps grinning like the village idiot.
DeleteOh such language. Sly controls the city manager? You may want to read the charter.
DeleteThere are state laws that govern police and collective bargaining. Police cant have traditional collective bargaining like you think. Despite the stupid name, meet and confer agreements are about as good as you get but make no mistake, they are almost identical to collective bargaining laws. A police dept isnt like a car company. They are not subject to the same bargaining rules and rights.
DeleteThere are many ways to control people and Sly has mastered a lot of them. So regardless of what the charter says he will find a way to assert his will on the city manager, like he's done with the city council, the BOPC, the chief of police, etc, etc, etc.
DeleteHaha state oversight. Yes, the Missouri state legislature is very competent. Let's see this year they overturned a Facebook law and repealed a animal shelter law approved by voters. Very productive body, just who I want watching over the PD.
ReplyDeleteI hope that we get Local Control. Having a Board of Police Commissioners running the PD has done little to nothing in curbing crime. The PD is a mess now.
ReplyDeleteSo what is so great about state control? You want friends of the governor running things? Mike Alvin Brooks who was SUCH a good cop before...NOT! Now he's one of the guys in charge.
ReplyDeleteLocal control means more accountability and more citizen input on how things are done. I'm all for it.
That is a delusional statement. This city could not properly run an ant farm. I really don't want to give them control of the 23rd largest police department in the country.
DeleteCity control is going to happen, it's just a matter of when. The question is can the PD keep the 800 million in retirement funds away from those money grubbing whores. That is the only reason why they want control of the PD. As it was stated earlier, they can then fund streetcars to no where all over the city and hang all the retired officers out to dry. If we can keep the retirement from them, I say we do it. It's not like the BOPC actually does anything anyway, and it's not like the City Council will do anything with it except for what they already do. Put it on the city council, maybe then they will get voted out of office and we will get a city council who has a clue about how to run a city, not a city council elected for their color and/or name.
ReplyDelete100% correct!!! It's all about getting their hands on that cash so they can "borrow" against it!! That's why there is a push for local control!!!
DeleteYea, yea... It's a conspiracy from the bad men. This blog is more like FOX news everyday.
DeleteFox news? Wtf is wrong with you. The blog is about an inept unqualified city council trying everything it can to get its hands on the police department pension system.
DeleteHow in the hell does the city even think local control is a good idea? As I understand it, the department members have no political rights, but if they become locally controlled they automatically get them. The city has had no luck dealing with Local 42 (and it's 400 members) and get their ass kicked every year. Now they think it's a good idea to try to deal with 2000 pissed off members, with their political rights? Good luck with that.
ReplyDeleteThis is why Local Control is a good idea. This has been going on for way too long under the current PD.

Great video, finally a look into the true vision of the inner city. Sit back and wait on handouts, wait for someone else to save, and never look within to correct your own problems. Schools are in the condition they're in for a couple reasons; 1) schools are funded by taxes, nobody working and paying taxes means not much money for the school, 2) go door to door around 1 am and see how many kids are still up while mom parties it up (no money for bills but plenty for drugs and alcohol), then send that kid to school on no sleep or don't send them at all and blame the teachers for the raising of your own kids. I believe I heard "we got no choice but to gangbang", see other cities fill out job applications, then again other people are responsible adults. We need the city to provide more activities, other kids in other cities are capable of going outside and playing without killing each other and with governments babysitting. More and more is given and it only gets worse. Thank you for showing the lack of responsibility and the waiting for others to give and fix their problem mentality that will keep this community declining. Masterpiece
Delete400 members? Try over 1500.
ReplyDeleteTry 1300 department members, subtract 3808 and civilians and you end up with about 1200.
