TKC NOTE: Check this passage from a speech honoring local leaders of Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP):
He's the Energizer Bunny of our leadership. He's the Cal Ripkin of our movement. He's been a local SNAP leader longer than anyone in the country, by far. It's his 20 year anniversary, in fact. He's headed a local SNAP chapter since 1992.
And it's not just his longevity and consistency that's praiseworthy. In many ways, this guy is the quintessential SNAP leader.
He’s humble.
He listens well.
He doesn't judge others.
He doesn't make unilateral, rash decisions
He's mild-mannered and soft-spoken.
He's not excited about doing interviews, but knows that’s how we find those who need our help – largely through the media. So he does interviews and he does them well.
He got involved because of his brother Kevin's pain. But he stayed involved because of his own.
He and his brother were molested by a priest. That priest went on to become a bishop. That bishop, now retired, has a wing of a building named after him. That building is a childrens' home.
That decision –to name a wing of a children’s home after a bishop – was made after three or four sex abuse and cover up lawsuits were filed against that bishop.
And like a quintessential SNAP leader, he's gotten his share of grief from church officials. He’s from a small diocese. His mom was a long time church secretary. Everyone at the chancery knew her.
A few years ago, this gentleman did one of those sidewalk news conferences outside the diocesan headquarters. He walked inside to deliver a letter to church officials. He was met by the diocesan PR woman, Rebecca Summers, who knows him and his family.
His mom had died just weeks earlier.
The diocesan PR woman pulled him aside, away from the media, and whispered "If your mom were still alive, she'd be so ashamed of you."
It was an extraordinarily mean kick in the gut. But like the quinitessential SNAP leader he is, he keeps plugging on. He inspires me and he inspires many others. Please meet and welcome and join with me in appreciating Michael Hunter of KC.

The Catholic church has a lot of pervert priests. Some raped children.
ReplyDeleteMany of the pervert priests escaped justice because the church refused to do the right thing. Which is have them investigated charged and tried in the courts. Instead the Catholic Church hid and covered up for the pervert priests which allowed them to continue to abuse.
Some people are asking the question- is SNAP part of the solution, or part of the Catholic Church's pervert coverup?
Ask yourself- What wouldn't the church do do cover up it's sins and crimes? They have already done it all.
What law firm does Michael pimp for? What does he make a year? SNAP is nothing but a front for class action lawyers who move from cigarettes to asbestos, to...
ReplyDeleteI don't think that's the case, these people don't seem to be motivated by money but by the pain that a few priests have caused them. That is probably the only reason they would work so hard. It seems like more than just a job to them.

Hmmmm, when I look over the alleged "victims" all I see is middle-aged, middle-class white guys like Hunter who suddenly remember they were abused years ago.
