Word of the so-called "Westport Renaissance" keeps spreading largely thanks to the constant promotion of local biz dude Bill Nigro.

We ran into Bill Nigro buying office supplies (notepads make me happy) . . . Here's what the Westport advocate said . . .

"There are more than half a dozen bars having record a Summer-time. Westport is enjoying incredible traffic right now. It's comparable to the crowds that we have enjoyed in the 80s and early 90s."

I asked if the spike in traffic was due to the absence of Westport and Mr. Nigro simply nodded and gave a grin in what I'm not sure was an affirmative or negative response.

And let's not blame this all on hip-hop . . . Westport insiders already know that The Gusto Lounge often features a more relaxed group of hip-hop performers who have drawn a diverse crowd.

What's important is that this popular nightlife spot is now reporting quantifiable data of a resurgence . . . Meanwhile, the P&L District seems to be struggling with demographic growing pains that Westport has seemed to manage with better crowd control, more street lights, cooperation with police and a pro-active business partners.
