THE TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! TAKE A LOOK AT MAYOR SLY'S EXTRAVAGANT AND GLOSSY WATER/SEWER SALES TAX MAILER!!!

Mayor Sly is making a major pitch to raise sales taxes and borrow A LOT OF MONEY in the name of "infrastructure" while leading one of the most extensive spending sprees Kansas City has seen since the days of Mayor Barnes.

To wit . . .

CHECK OUT THE RATHER FANCY MAILER FEATURING MAYOR SLY PITCHING HIS "REFORM, REPEAL, REPAIR" PLAN THAT REPRESENTS ONE OF THE BIGGEST TAX INCREASE AND BORROWING PLANS KANSAS CITY HAS SEEN IN QUITE SOME TIME!!!

It's a pretty impressive package (nullus) . . . Four pages total and a fold out with some nice photography.

The mailer hit doorsteps this week and coverage of this town should be rather impressive . . . Or at least as good as all of the Mayor's signs in the City's right-of-ways that violate new City Ordinances created for the All-Star game clean-up.

As far as "eliminating taxes" a more accurate word is CONSOLIDATING more metro levies . . .

Still, Mayor Sly playing discount store tricks is par for the course and probably won't matter much given that only a few dozen people are going to vote in this election that will give Mayor Sly his blank check.

Take a look at a few of the people putting their name on the effort.

As always, click the image for a bigger view and realize that Mayor Sly is going to fundamentally change the nature of this town's finances with a move that has already tanked our bond rating.

Never mind that pouring money down Kansas City sewers without changing much about the administration of the failed system is part of what got us here in the first place.

Oh yeah . . . And this is just the first major ask for Mayor Sly.

There are EVEN MORE taxes for Kansas City on the way.

DEVELOPING . . .

  2. I got mine and read it. It's fancy and all that, but it doesn't give any compelling reason to vote yes on wither tax.

How many people will understand the advantage of taking advantage of historic low interest rates? As opposed to what?

In other words, like the old Wendy's ads, it has a nice big fluffy bun, but where's the beef?

  3. Same old crap; lousy government that no one can trust for years, and then big bucks for campaign consultants to confuse, trick, and scare the voters into another scam. Remember the etax elections that was supposed to be all about public safety followed by the campaign afterward to reduce the number of firefighters and hold KCPD raises hostage to combining medical insurance?
Or the latest "emergency" ordinance transferring money from infrastructure and parks accounts into the streetcar black hole?
How many times can the pea disappear under a different walnut shell?

  4. Absolutely 2.22! How many times indeed? When do we say "enough is enough" and get these weasel bastards out of office and at least, try someone with a modicum of ethics and public responsibility??

  5. Kansas City has and will always be a wantabe big city.

  6. I got one in the mail, but i thought it was an advertisement for the Kansas city zoo, with a picture of an ape on it.

  7. Ape..? LOL! Agree!

  8. TKC, you're dead wrong on this. This isn't giving the mayor a blank check at all.

This tax will repeal existing taxes, eliminate the motor vehicle licensing fee, which anyone with a car pays, and set aside the rest of the funds for street maintenance.

This initiative actually limits the council's flexibility with funds, and requires them to spend the money on these items.

I'm voting yes, and no, I don't work for the mayor or the campaign.

  9. repeal....... pretty smart word usage there. make it sound negitive and like it saves money and people will vote for it. or confuse them into voting for it. pretty slick.

  10. glossy, expensive and worthless.

  11. 4:44: Wasn't the vehicle tax set to expire anyway?

  12. Big picture of the mayor on the mailing. Otherwise beautyshots of hardware and places, no people. So predictable. And a letter. These mailings are always about the chief executive more than the issues.

  13. Reality dislikes fraud and accounting tricks. Reality is serious about settling scores. Reality eventually intervenes and puts an end to monkey business. At least we have that going for us.

  14. 5:37, yes, it was. When it was signed into law twenty years ago, it did not have a sunset on it. However, the mayor pro tem at the time signed by mistake an earlier version of the ordinance that did have a sunset. So that mistake is what caused the 2012 sunset. But the Parks Department uses that money to fund community centers; without it, centers will face severe cutbacks and some will close. The Parks folks were planning on asking for a renewal of the fee that included an increase in it. The new ballot initiative makes that ask unnecessary.

  15. Get off your butts, stop posting here and go convince people to vote against this. Ollie Gates and Anita Gorman? Lovely people but do they know where their great-great-grand-kids are?

  16. In the past I always supported a KC tax increase. This will be the first time that I vote "NO". We elect amateurs to run the city because we distrust politicians. The lobbyist never go away. They continue to be the real power behind the curtain.

    Vote NO.

  17. Make Sly write on the blackboard 100 times: "We don't want more taxes, we want basic services & waste cutout at City Hall".

  18. Re; TKC, you're dead wrong on this. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. And you probably voted for the earnings tax that was going to cure all. Maybe there needs to be some kind of intelligence test before you are allowed to vote.

It's the same of KC decision. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Lol!

    ReplyDelete
  20. 6:42: So isn't it a tad disingenuous for the supporters of this sales tax to say the vehicle tax will go away if you wote for this when it will go away no matter how one votes?

    ReplyDelete
  21. OH just give them the money so they can filter into other pet projects like always!!! Don't worry they will be back to ask for more money later

    ReplyDelete
  22. 7:37, they don't say that. What they do say and what is true is that other taxes that support Parks will go away if this tax is passed. And the Parks Dept. will have a stable funding source and not be funded by the general fund. Also, there will be guaranteed money for street maintenance, which is sorely needed.

I'm voting yes, and encourage others to do the same.
