I've been meaning to write about this for awhile but I actually wanted to see how it played out for a bit . . .
HAS ANYBODY NOTICED THAT THE "KANSAS CITY CHEVY MUSIC SHOWCASE" IS ACTUALLY KIND OF KICK-ASS?!?!?
Normally I'm not a fan of sponsored content and there are only two Chevy models I think aren't embarrassing . . . Still, this LOCAL MUSIC PROMO is one of the best I've seen.
The extended commercial features are a little over a minute long and they feature local bands in local bars/clubs talking about their music. It's kind of like an interesting night out without crying drunk ladies or fear of a random shooting.
Their web page features all of the bands and places they've checked out so far: Kansas City Chevy Music Showcase
For this post I'm featuring two of my favorite episodes.
Up top: Ep. 107 Margo May on The Chevy Music Showcase
And here's one of the best Latino fusion bands Kansas City has ever seen: Ep. 105 Making Movies on The Chevy Music Showcase
For a look at all the bands, the commercial features along with extended performance clips in HD video . . . Check out the Chevy Music Showcase Youtube page which is a stark contrast and a MAJOR WIN over other corporate endeavors attempting to delve into local content.
Chevy Music? Musicians are such sell outs these days.
ReplyDeleteThey have to be, nobody buys music anymore they just steal it.
ReplyDeleteThey have to get in bed with Chevy, or their parents will make them get a job.
ReplyDelete...And what pure artistic endeavor pays your rent? Michelangelo was underwritten by the church, Mozart by the King -both of whom were the biggest business there was at the time. Business and art have ALWAYS been in bed together. It's just a matter of how they interact that determines a sellout.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the first 3 posters actually watched the program... or if they go out to support the local music scene. it's easy to sit at home and sling anonymous vitriole from afar.
ReplyDeletekudos to the 4th post here, which tells it like it is. all major music shows, festivals and venues have corporate relationships. nobody complains when Lollapolooza is sponsored by a large entity. not to mention: most of us drive cars. while this may not be your brand of choice, would u prefer it if this were the Ford Music Showcase? Lamborghini Music Showcase? reality is someone has to underwrite your music. Chevrolet is not heavy handed with the branding or content. and it's a nice peek into what makes the KC music scene tick.
