KMBC's Mike Mahoney vs. KCPD Chief Forté

As Kansas City's violence and murder numbers buck national downward trends there is increased tension and pressure on the KCPD Chief.

Check this KMBC story that features tense moments betwixt KMBC reporting legend Mike Mahoney and KCPD Chief Forté:

KC chief avoids specifics in anti-violence push

KCUR recounts the drama today as well: Council Law Enforcement Post-Forum Turns Testy

Later on twitter the KCPD Chief sounds off . . .

And Mahoney captures the frustrated tweet.

And while online and media beef is EXCEPTIONALLY entertaining . . . It doesn't change Kansas City's struggle to curb our constant murder and violence count.

Oh, excuse me.... go right ahead Mr. Nigger word guy. Yes. You are a complete imbecile.

  4. Mr. Mahoney should have stayed on the elevator and enjoyed the awkward silence all the way down. The chief can't stick up for the people that have to call him "boss" he sure as hell would have backed down from a seasoned reporter. Or it would have been a great black on white bare knuckle brawl. With words of course.

  6. "How many people are on this Top 10 list?" Mahoney asked as he followed Forte toward the elevator. "Chief? Why won't you answer some questions about this?"

"I don't want to talk to you right now," Forte said.

"You just made public testimony about it," Mahoney said.

"I'm not going to talk to you. I made my public testimony about it," Forte said.

"How many people are in the top tier?" Mahoney asked.

"Please step out of the elevator. I've got another appointment I've got to get to," Forte said.

HE CAN NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION BECAUSE HE HAS NO ANSWERS. IT'S ANOTHER KCPD DOG AND PONY SHOW.

    THREE YEAR PLAN ??????

LIKE HOW LONG DO TAXPAYERS HAVE TO WAIT FOR RESULTS TO CRIME?????

  7. "KCPD Chief Forte refuses to answer basic questions about the new crime crackdown."
    How embarrassing.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Forte is such an embarrassment to the city. He is NOT a leader of the police department and should not be allowed to serve in this capacity. Forte needs to go!

    ReplyDelete
  9. When the city doesn't have any plan about public safety or much of anything else, and decisions are made and priotities set by whichever insider group or interest makes the most noise, then denial, delusion, and reaction seet the tone.
The media has finally begun to ask some tough questions about the ineffectiveness and lack of attention to crime by the city and about the utter lack of leadership by the usual suspects in the black community. And the public is correctly astonished when police board members like the mayor are surprised by the fact that invesitgations are dropped if a victim doesn't cooperate. Which makes you wonder what IS discussed and what questions are asked at those police board meetings.
We've all seen program after program rolled out over the years, only to be ignored and allowed to gradually disappear and be replaced by the NEXT BIG THING. But the homicides continue at a reate of at least two every week and no one is held accountable for any performance or results.
And the patrol officers want to change the game and a majority of east side residents want to help.
But it takes leadership and courage to change the status quo and plenty of folks are doing just fine the way things are.
    Courage and leadership.

  10. Their plan is to evict people (who haven't been criminally involved) from 26th Prospect to Brooklyn and all of the crime would be solved, right? Wrong! It seems there's a murder every 5 minutes within blocks of the Kansas City Missouri Police stations. They can start by addressing that. Forte is out of his league. We like Mike; not so much for Forte! I'm Glad had the guts to stand up to Forte. Forte, we don't need another hero.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Looks like Forte is under fire from the press. He might be taking an early retirement.

    ReplyDelete
  12. O to be the chief, I can do whatever I want and make all of those changes I have planned for years while in waiting. Sorry but reality says otherwise. Your heart may be in the right place but this is KCMO, nothing changes, the entrenched system and people ensure that change doesn't occur. How do you eat an elephant, one bite at a time, but sorry Chief, this is one giant ass elephant. Just do the best you can with crime and take care of your people then do as other chiefs and go find a pud job in the private sector. Again, this is KCMO, you didn't have a chance.

  13. I watch the channel 9 video and man was that bad. The Chief of Police looked like he did not know what he was doing. No wonder crime is going through the roof in Kansas City. This is really bad for Kansas City.

  16. He should have stopped and took the opportunity to get the media on board. Once again I am embarrassed of my police department, and I can't wait to go to work tomorrow knowing that I still don't have a leader with a backbone. You finally seem to have Jackson County prosecutors on board, and then turn a cold shoulder to the press? WTF is that? I'm not going to go on a tirade and slander you, or call you names, but come on, really? We need all the help we can get, and you, the leader of this department, just made us all look like assholes. We have enough people at my level who do a good enough job of that. You are supposed to be the face of the department, not the ass of it. Nice job today Chief.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Very embarrassing for the police department.

  18. MAHONEY RULES!!!!!

Why are you giving a presentation, open to the public, without details, only generalities?
At 39 seconds into the video, when Forte first appears on camera, you can see he's got that "oh crap, they're filming me" look on his face!
When a reporter asking questions, not badgering, makes the Chief turn mute and flee....that's really bad PR.

    MAHONEY RULES !!!

  28. Forte thinks that a dozen or so guys or responsible for the violent crime? Nearly all of the robberies and shootings are by different people, who have beefs with different people, or looked at the wrong guy wrong.

Let's just say these criminals are organized in a gang element. Just like any other criminal organization no matter how organized, you take out the top person, another rises up in his place.

By saying that a dozen or so criminals are responsible for most of the violent crime is just plain wrong. Forte knows it but doesn't want to admit it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Forte is just like Obama. "As president I've got a lot of responsibilities." forte is busy with stuff. He has another appointment. Or something. The PD is not union. You must be from JoCo or spending your Wed. nite drinking from Yael's koolaid pitcher

    ReplyDelete
  44. RC, because you are a union member does that mean that intelligence, truth, and reality shouldn't apply to police operations? Shit flows downhill, my lady. Your police chief has no leadership skills. Rank and file members, front line soldiers in the fight against violent crime, don't respect him. If he was a leader of any caliber whatsoever, he would clearly define a mission to the public in this battle, without releasing operational details. He FAILED again today, His amateur tweeting, criticizing media for asking legitimate questions about public safety, says it all. We, the public, want leadership. And we don't have that leadership at kcpd now.

I'll say this. First, Mahoney was doing his job, and did it well by asking the questions that needed to be asked.

Forte screwed up by no responding to Mahoney's legitimate questions. A royal fuck-up.

However, Mahoney also ended up looking like a complete dickhead by pulling the shit at the end of his report by whining that the chief called him "rude" in a Tweet.

While Mahoney certainly wasn't rude, he certainly didn't need to cry about the chief's Twitter statement.

By the way, Mahoney may be professional as a news reporter, but the end of the report showed his true personal life persona---that he can be a royal prick.

And would someone please advise Forte that the Sonny Crockett look (and attitude) went out in the early '90s? ReplyDelete
  80. So what were this chief's contributions to the department that got him promoted to chief? And this list of his to attack crime the police board seemed so in love with, did he create it with a plan for implementation, or did he just sit in his office for a year and cut and paste ideas from the Internet? Anyone can come up with a to do list, getting the shit done is the hard part. He's making the same mistake as the other most hated chief, SB, little care for the people who work for him, solely focused on this "plan". Either he balances all stakeholders or he's done.

    ReplyDelete
  81. After 14 years I left kcpd last year so I have a question for current members. There was a personal grooming policy in place for decades regarding facial hair that only allowed ”neatly trimmed” mustaches. No goatees. No ”I haven't shaved for a week” looks. And I know for a fact it was strictly enforced. Since the ”chief” has a goatee and a weeks stubble has that policy been changed? I haven't seen any other dept. members with stubble or goatees. I know I th may seem like a silly issue to most folks but for hard-working beat cops who care about their jobs and the citizens, having a chief who blatantly violates one of the most basic policies seems like a real kick in the nuts. Citizens of KC, the KCPD is making the titanic look like a successful cruise liner. Officers who would have never considered leaving 5 years ago are taking jobs 1500 miles away (Portland OR apparently has over a dozen former 5+ year kcpd coppers) because if the shitty morale here. Cops deal with a lot of BS such as shitty pay, disrespect from citizens, declining benefits just for starters. When a chief blatantly favors his ”gang” buddies and drives a bus over anyone who is not in his ”tribe”, it is no wonder his staff (who aren't a member of the annointed few) are abandoning 10+ year careers, moving their families, and leaving friends and family behind in search of greener pastures.

And, its only gonna get worse. I got a bad feeling that the severe shortage of staff is gonna hurt the city big time just as KC will have the spotlight (and cameras) in it for the All-Star events. Wait until people have to wait 30+ minutes for cops to show up to calls because of the staffing shortages. Last I heard we were down over 200 offficers (out of the 1300 we're supposed to have). Those shortages aren't felt in the chiefs office, but in the patrol divisions. Some shifts are running at half the staff they are slotted for. Point is, this chief needs to be making all the friends he can and giving the big fuck-you to one of the only truly respected journalists left in the city was not a smart move.

But I guess he'll get a pass from all the libs because if the heat gets too intense all he has to do is scream ”Racism” and the NAACP will come running to his defense.
