Just a quick thought for tonight . . .
Remember all of the big promises from the local biz geniuses behind the KC Strip Trolley?
It was gonna revive the local economy . . .
It was going to be crowded with hot chicks . . .
There would be a Renaissance of Kansas City nightlife . . .Unrelated to hype about chasing all the minorities out of Westport.
Yeah . . .
NONE OF THAT HAPPENED AND INSTEAD THE KC STRIP TROLLEY IS JUST A LAME, LOCAL TOURIST TRAP THAT CAN'T EVEN COME UP WITH ENOUGH CASH TO PAY BACK A TAX FREE LOAN ON TIME!!!
It would be funny if it wasn't so sad and costly. One of the developers of this disaster even told TKC they were paying back their TAX FREE loan right before it was revealed that they were making paltry progress.
Sooooo . . . .
GIVEN THAT KC STRIP HAS BEEN SUCH AN EPIC FAIL . . . TRUE TO FORM: KANSAS CITY IS DOUBLING DOWN AND FOLLOWING THE SAME LOSING PLAN AT EVEN HIGHER STAKES!!!
That's right . . . And that's my thesis for tonight . . .
The Downtown Toy Train is just a more expensive version of the KC Strip Trolley that's already failed.
Of course there are little differences . . . We might get to throw away Obama cash and the Downtown Toy Train will put an extra burden on local biz along with ripping up the streets.
But the principle is the same.
Once again local government is playing the development game and soon to fail miserably . . . With your money.
Meanwhile . . . While reactionaries are pissed that Black dudes are getting all the tail at local clubs despite the fact that they thought they chased hip-hop (i.e. minorities) away . . . The real scam is taking place on a much higher level than old school club hoppers and know-it-all hipsters care to consider.
Sorry, I just blog this Kansas City travesty . . . I'm not in charge of any of it.

Meanwhile in Kansas City, KC Strip Trolley supporter D-Bags refuse to admit their mistakes AND we're on track to start another ugly scheme that's really nothing more than a runaway train with taxpayer cash.

No I am sure he has himself and his personal money protected and when he is done playing choo choo driver he will walk from the Toy Train 1 and let the taxpayers take the hit for his folly trolley.

One just has to look at all the reports on how light rail and the folly trolleys have failed in city after city. Just to our east in St Louis the powers that be conned the voters once on their toy train but second time around wanting more tax money the voters said enough is enough we don’t need any more debt.
Every Mayor in any city wants a monument when they leave office to remind others who they were. Well build Sly a statue likeness of himself to be erected just beside Brush Creek in a spot by the Plaza. The hope for a huge rain and maybe it will get washed down stream with the rest of the shit. If you build his folly trolley you will be paying for it as well as your great grandkids and their great grandkids till it is destroyed by a smarter Mayor. There is no such thing as a free ride to build anything anywhere in any city.

ReplyDeleteJust got home from the Plaza. Watched the trolley throughout the KU game...it came by 15-20 times outside Zocalo. Had remembered TKC's comments so counted riders each time. 1....1! rider in 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Just another failed business living off the city's checkbook. SHAMEFUL.

ReplyDeleteThe rich live in a socialist country (they don't care what anything costs, because its the middle-class that foots the bill), the middle-class lives in a republic (large doses of patriotism, fear/hatred of the poor & lotteries are necessary to maintain the illusion of large amounts of upward mobility. Of course, you're also entitled to cheap gas, a good job, etc.) & the poor live in a feudal society (serve the rich, or steal from the rich.)
We were on McCoy's deck for hours Friday night, and saw trolleys go by. One did have 6 or more people, another had a couple. The rest were empty. Prime-time, in beautiful weather.

Bill's George and Nigro should never, ever get another audience from the City Council. They scammed city leaders for financial assistance when they themselves didn't have confidence it would succeed. All the while saying how successful it would be. EMBARRASSING AND SCANDALOUS!

Mr. Showoff Bill George exploits the City Council all the time. If it hadn't been for TKC his latest gimmick would have been proffed as a highly successful "dynamic transportation option". He's now gone underground while Nigro works the street all weekend and takes the heat. Both of them should COME OUT OF POCKET WITH THEIR OWN $$$$ and catch up the payments.

ReplyDeleteBill George fancies himself a power broker, and Veolia pays him more than mid-six figures to hang on to that power and get Veolia what it wants. He also is working to get the CVB and Rick Hughes a big portion of the NTDF money without following any rules that other groups have to. If Jan Marcason folds to Bill George and Rick Hughes over NTDF, she should be ashamed and kicked off the finance committee.

George is nearing the end of his run. Veolia is divesting its transport divison due to unprofitability, lawsuits and union problems and the Mayor and most of the City Council think he's overbearing and full of himself.
ReplyDeleteThey'll take his French $, the free limos and buses but after the Trolley debacle he's no longer considered trustworthy. For a guy with his juice to negotiate a no interest loan from the taxpayers then not pay it back as scheduled, is not sitting well with a lot of people.
