TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! TAKE A LOOK AT THE PLAN FOR KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO REGAIN ACCREDITATION!!!

So here is the new plan . . .

School board member Crispin Rea says this:

"Here is the District's plan to regain accreditation. It includes the foundation provided by the Transformation Plan w/ tweaks and areas receiving increased focus. The solutions floating around the community, City Hall, and Jefferson City all address the political/governance issue regarding the Board. There is no convincing evidence that simply changing the people will increases academic achievement. These plans are being driven by some seeking political power (at our kids expense) and others buckling under the political pressure to do what is popular. Want to set aside politics and do what's right for the students? Check it out and share"

What do you think? Can this save the District?

  1. Where the hell is the accountability?? I didn't see any names of those responsible for this cartoon show. What's this, more "don't snitch"???

    1. Insist that students attend classes or kick them out of school.

    2. Insist that the fights and vandalism stop, or prosecute the culprits to the full extent of the law. Enforce discipline in the classroom. Administrators should be supportive of teachers in this regard.

    3. Insist that students study and do the work.

    4. No social advancements to the next grade.

    5. No "soft prejudice of lower expectations."

    Hard nosed tough love.

P.S. Tell minority students they need to prove the stereotypes about them aren't true, because it sure as heck looks as if they are true.

  5. I didn't check the date on Rea's proposal, but it could have been 1981.
Haven't we been through all these promises before?
And the other comments are right on the mark. What about some basic accountability, repsonsibility, and decent behavior by the "scholars".
And also some accountability by the district. What ever happened to the Ryan Kath expose' about the $34 million HMM insider contract?
This has to be the only game around where these people think they get nine strikes or fifteen outs before they're shown the door.
    Bad news. Times up!

  6. Yeah, this might be a case of too little too late.

  7. Wait! There might be a few dollars left on the skeleton of the district that the usual suspects haven't quite gotten to. Really should give them a chance to pick it completely clean.

  8. Oh, well ...

    if there's a PLAN ...

  9. That was very disappointing. One issue above all others need to be addressed, attendance.

Nothing has proven to lower academic achievement more than poor attendance. Even at what many consider to be the worst schools, kids with higher attendance out-score kids with poor attendance. Clearly teaching and learning are taking place.

Children should be required to attend school on Saturdays for everyday they are absent. Saturday lessons should be based on data from Acuity test results and work must be completed that day. Failure to attend Saturdays should result in an alternative placement of the student. Teachers at the regular schools should be focused on the kids that attend, teachers at the alternative schools should focus on the kids that need to catch up.

Students that attend school should not be held back by those who do not.

  10. The board needs to take responsibilty for every thing they did not do. They did not protect the children. The voted without question everything place before them by Covington. They have missed spent over $50 million dollars.
