They say that all politics is local . . . What they don't mention is that it can also get kinda skeevy.
Not at all as classy as Alice Goodwin . . .
Here's the latest:
MORE THAN A FEW WRITE-IN CANDIDATES HAVE REPORTED ANONYMOUS PHONE THREATS AFTER DECLARING THEIR CANDIDACY!!!
We have confirmation of this fact from anony sources and a few of our FB friends have made note of as much in an attempt to stand up to this deplorable tactic.
Check it:
"Lyne't Smith candidate for the KCPS Board At-Large Candidate is receiving threats to her family . . ."
Write-in Candidate Lyne't Smith confirmed these allegations in her subsequent FB postings . . . And also noted her faith in standing up to the harassment.
But this isn't an isolated incident . . . The local, neighborhood nature of this upcoming election seems to have brought out the worst in (SOME) Kansas City residents as this race takes place in the shadow of a takeover and in a district without accreditation.
Some good news . . . Lyne't's bravery seems to have brought rewards . . . Today she has reportedly received a number of endorsements from labor and community leaders . . .

My husband was plead guilty at the age of 18years old for fear of going to jail for something he was accused of doing at 17 years old. If I was worried about anyone finding that out I would not have even collected the signatures to sit on the board, my address goes on the paper work, once again PUBLIC knowlege, smh. What does he have to do with it? He does not go to the schools, he is not involved in anything with children. Where does that informatin come in handy in a school board election?

We know who has used threats in the past and it is not West. These are the tactics of the group that has a couple convicted felons as their leaders. These are tactics of people who have been making a profit off of government by bribes and extortion and theft. If you do some searching of criminal history records you will find a federal felony conviction and a disbarment. Do your homework Tony, we know who the thugs are and you should too.

DeleteMs. Smith- I am not the caller threatening you. Your children should be STRICTLY OFF-LIMITS in terms of threats of violence AT ALL TIMES, election or no. It is extremely disappointing that anyone would do such.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, the only way I even learned of any threats was through Tony's Kansas City. And out of curiosity as to who would want to threaten you and why, I looked into your background in the public record. And I posted exactly what I found for the purposes of informing the discussion as to who will be leading the school board.
In terms of your husband's conviction for statutory rape of a 13 year old, I believe it is very relevant to voters since you're standing for election to a public school board.
First, let's get a couple of facts straight. The public record shows that the acts occurred when your husband was 18 1/2 (not 17 as you state) and that he pled guilty at 19 1/2 (not 18 as you state).
Second, in terms of the plea, your husband was represented by competent legal counsel. Fear or no fear, he had his day in court. And part of every plea agreement is an acknowledgment that you are, in fact, guilty of the charges. So pleading innocence over a decade after the fact seems to me a hollow defense. However, I do respect the fact that you chose to marry your husband in spite of this background and that you have remained married ever since. Lord knows we need more committed parents.
Third, in terms of relevancy, I think it speaks to judgement. I cannot fathom how you think it irrelevant. Some studies say pedophelia (that's what it is, look it up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedophilia) can be cured or controlled. Others say it can't. Regardless, if my spouse was a recovered alcoholic, even with a decade of being clean and sober, I would not even consider buying a bar. Why place temptation in the path of someone you love? Further, if something *should* happen, I don't know that I could, in good conscience, be absolved from personal (albeit not necessarily legal) responsibility.
Further, as a voter, I want to know about those who will be making decisions that effect the lives of our future generations. You think it is irrelevant to your ability to serve, and you acted in accordance with that belief. I respect your right to do so.
But I also think that, as someone seeking public office and a public trust that involves children, the voters are entitled to have the information and to make their own judgements. And on that matter, I respectfully disagree with your fitness to serve.
However, I do not think that your husband's conviction on a pedophelia charge makes you unfit to serve the public in other capacities, and there are many other ways to serve besides being on the school board. Our community, and especially the urban core, needs active and engaged " lionesses" fighting for them. I hope you will continue to pursue other service, including elective office, that seem (perhaps only to me) more suitable.
As one final side note, there were also a couple of matters in the public record involving unpaid personal property taxes on your vehicles. I would encourage you to ensure that the record accurately reflects your payment status so as to render any future misunderstandings moot.
Good luck in your campaign.
And more importantly, please continue fighting for a violence-free community for our children.
Wow, can you say exposed? I saw this Lanette at one of the forums and was not impressed. She spent her whole time yelling, yes yelling, about the Board allowing her kid to be stabbed or something. Unfortunate story but she had nothing to actually offer and just came across as bat shit crazy.

I wasn't going to vote in this upcoming election due to the fact that Airick West,has stolen millions of dollars,ran his private business out of 1211 McGee, had kick backs off contracts, had pictures posted with his shirt off having pillow fights with young boys,then you have Sam Mann, that is being ran by the Urban Summitt which only interest is the african school, and they have had their hands in raping the community for their own gain, don't let me leave out Webster's daughter, that just recently had a second child born out of wedlock and she is known to get drunk and sleep around. She is more of a threat than Smith's husband. Like it or not Airick West will not be the President, and Urban crooks will not get in.

Her marriage license is also available, as are any number of legal records n casenet. All provide the link to Mr. Smith. A quick cross-check of his name on the Missouri State Highwy Patrol Sex Offender registry (or casenet, whichever you prefer) and the sex offender registration, offense information and victim information can all be found.
So yes, it's all in the public record, as a person purported to be Ms. Smith acknowledges at 8:21.

How do you know that this mother has never been married? Would you prefer she had an abortion, like so many others choose in other commmunities? As a community we have grown to accept children out of wedlock. Because we have generations of sorry men, who run from the responsibility of a family. Maybe if more women refused relationships with men who fail to commit to their chldren and the mothers. We would have less children born out of wedlock, because at the time of conception it was a man and woman together making that baby. He decided by not protecting hisself that he accepted 100% of responsibility. That was such a sexist statement in 2012. How about current and former city councilmembers and state representatives that had children out of wedlock.
