And, even assuming words were exchanged prior to Martin's attack, it is NEVER jusification for a physically assaulting someone unless there is an imminent threat of attack. And do you really think doughboy Zimmerman would attack a kid half a foot taller and fit? Nt hardly. So unless Zimmerman says something like, "Hey nigger, stand right there so I can get my gun out and shoot you.", b striking first Martin is the aggressor.
Remember- It was Martin who fled the scene and then returned to challenge Zimmerman. And Martin would most likely be alive today if he had just kept running instead of returning to confront a guy who was just keeping an eye on things in his little part of the world.

And, I am yet to hear ANY account of this event, other the inflamed versions lke yours, that said Zimmerman was "running after" Martin. In fact, if you would take the time to listen to the 9-1-1 call from Zimmerman you will hear that it is Martin who initially approaches Zimmerman, and then turns and runs away.
At that point, Zimmerman can ge heard getting out of his vehicle to get a better look at where Martin is running to. Dispatch asks Zimmerman which way is Martin running. Zimmerman begins to describe it and you can hear Zimmerman's breathing get heavier. Dispatch asks, "Are you following him?". Zimmerman says, "Yeah.". Dispatch says, "We don't need you to do that.". Zimmerman says, "Okay.". and "he ran." Within a few seconds, Zimmerman's breathing and voice return to normal. That is hardly some kind of hot pursuit foot chase or provocative.
What IS provocative is that Martin returns to the scene and confronts Zimmerman. And that is a decision MARTIN makes, just like his decision to coldcock Zimmerman and jump on top of him and begin beating his head into the concrete.
I seriously do not understand how anyone who actually takes the time to listen to the tapes can make the kind of asinine statements you do- unless they have already made up their mind and just want to stir up more shit.

ReplyDeleteParamedics treated Zimmerman on the scene for his injuries, and he refused transportation to the hospital. He was treated for his injuries the next day.
Zimmerman worked as a "forensic loan review analysist", and was previously a used car salesman and an insurance agent. He used to work part time as a security guard. He was FAR from "rich".

While use of a deadly weapon is certainly included in the definition of "aggravated assault", the use of a deadly weapon (or any weapon at all) is not necessary for an aggravated assault to occur.
When used in a certain manner, fists, feet, etc. are sufficient weapons for a charge of aggravated assault.
Zimmerman did not provoke this attack.
ReplyDeleteMartin fled the scene. At that point, any action by Zimmerman that might have been a "provocation" (which itself is at best a questionable proposition) is irrelevant to what happens next.
Martin returned to the scene, sought out and confronted Zimmerman, struck the first blow, and having caused Zimmerman to fall to the ground, proceeded to get on top of Zimmerman and continue the assault by smashing his head into the ground. At any point in this scenario, Martin could have simply turned and fled.
Martin also had a cell phone with him. After leaving the scene, if he felt threatened he could have called 9-1-1. He could have knocked on a door and asked for assistance. He could have asked one of the several individuals out walking that night for assistance ("Some guy is following me and I'm scared. Can you call 9-1-1, please?"). Lots of ways for this to play that do not involve Martin returning to the scene.
Plus, if he WAS fearful, why in the hell would Martin go back and seek out Zimmerman after he had gotten away from him?
Martin is clearly responsible for the events that resulted in his death.
