FINALLY!!! SERIOUS OPPOSITION TO KANSAS CITY'S DOWNTOWN TOY TRAIN EMERGES!!!

Here's the only bit of hope I can find for Kansas City right now . . .

THERE'S A LEGAL MOVE AGAINST THE PRICEY AND POINTLESS KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN TOY TRAIN!!!

This is fun . . .

IN A RATHER IRONIC MOVE, BANK OF AMERICA OBJECTS TO THE "SPECIAL TAXING DISTRICT" AND PAYING MULTIPLE TAXES/LEVIES/FEES TO KANSAS CITY EVERY YEAR!!!

Remember that BofA has had their own problems with people objecting to their fees as well.

Nevertheless . . . Here's a corporation fighting against Kansas City's Downtown Toy Train pointless spending/debt plan because of the cost. Check it:

KC Biz Journal: BofA seeks to derail KC streetcar tax district plan

"Attorney Sherwin Epstein, of the Epstein Law Firm in Overland Park, Kansas represents Bank of America in its suit against the Kansas City City Council’s efforts to create a special taxing district to pay for a proposed downtown street car.

"According to Epstein, business within the district will endure four real estate taxes on the same property every year. This, says Epstein, is not only unjust and unreasonable, but also confiscatory and illegal.

"Bank of America, as trustee for a commercial parking lot on the northwest corner of 11th and Holmes, within the district, moved to dismiss the city’s petition with a Jackson County Circuit Judge."

  1. They should just move to Johnson County.

  2. So BoA is going to fight the only property tax that may increase the value of their property? If you own property along the streetcar route and you oppose the streetcar...you not be very smart.

If I had anything to do with BOA i would not risk walking near a courtroom.

  6. A streetcar from River Market to Crown Center would be nice if we had gobs of extra money laying around. As it is many existing bus lines including the MAX already travel that route, so, given our current fiscal condition, a streetcar duplicating those routes would not be the swiftest move.

By the way, what is the deal with KCATA's playing loud ads on their busses? Do we really need more noise to go with all the people mindlessly chatting on their cell phones?

  7. Train wreck approaching. Mayor/CC vs. DT business community. This is just the beginning.

  8. BOA is the train wreck. They are making this suit as a trustee of some out-of-towners who own the parking lot. So let's let people from far away, who neither work nor live here, screw up our plans for improvement.
