On what will suffice for Valentine's Day for most busy couples . . . This bummer news headline seems like the most important thing to those of us who know that pop culture has as much of an impact on our lives as politics . . .
Whitney Houston, Iconic Pop Star, Dies at 48
Sad . . . And reminds me of these local topics that are nearly as depressing.
Kansas City opinion makers are cheering for Mayor Sly raising property taxes. In a very real way, the Mayor's charisma is going to cost you.
Kansas City hasn't made much progress on the number of homicides in our city and it seems like most of us are content to ignore the problem until it becomes a crisis around the end of the year.
They say it's gonna snow Monday.
I probably didn't win the Powerball.
Mayor and City Council are sooooooo concerned about infrastructure that the first thing they're going to build is a downtown toy train that runs a bit more than two miles, costs more than ONE HUNDRED MILLION and is part of a tax and spend philosophy of local government that has given us The P&L District and Nickelback at The Sprint Center.
Sadly, these facts have inspired tonight's playlist which isn't really that romantic.
As always, thank you for reading and have a safe and fun weekend.
awwww
ReplyDeleteno reason to be sad. maybe an important lesson that a body can't tolerate drug abuse for the long haul.
ReplyDeleteCancel your subscription to the KC Star. Add ole Yael to the Usual Suspect list. Taxes are going up thanks to slickity Sly's losing infrastructure plan. KC is losing.
ReplyDeleteFUNK WINS!
Nice choices on the music, and the tribute. Enjoyed them. So sad we have lost this great music talent.
ReplyDeleteThat parasite of an ex husband killed her a long time ago..sad
ReplyDeleteHow soon can we get rid of sly and troy? My wallet can't take it.
ReplyDeleteOur families will suffer for Sly's benefit. Wake up KC. Sly is not a mayor for the people.
ReplyDeleteNasty skanky nigga crack ho ded, ded, ded!!! who cares?
ReplyDeleteHouston, we have a problem. Sly James is the mayor of KC and he is killing families with his endless spending.
ReplyDeleteHe will kill you with taxes like Whitney killed herself with cocaine.
People of KC. Feel free to come to KS and spend your hard earned money without the fear of being robbed or shot on the down town train. Unlike KC, taking care of our citizensis a priority.
ReplyDeleteGod your city and mayor suck!
She on the "Soul" train.
ReplyDeleteSay hello to Amy Winehouse for us.
Inside Sly's head---
ReplyDeleteToy Train--Cha Ching!
New Airport--Cha Ching!
Tax citizens-- Cha Ching!
Prayer Vigil--Cha Ching!
KC School District--Cha Ching!
KCPD--Cha Ching!
KCFD--Cha Ching!
Tax citizens more--Cha Ching!
Think about what your family gets? More taxes.
Sly is losing for KC.
The Water Dept.'s double digit rate increases, doubled monthly service charge, and ever-increasing sewer and storm water runoff fees have left me unable to afford another $50 per month to service a new bond issue.
ReplyDeleteSorry Sly, I'm all tapped out.
Don't worry, T.
ReplyDeleteAlonzo will who the dirty, rich white racist was that killed Whitney.
Then he will 'blog' about it on myspace, hold a vigil nobody attends, ask for donations and wait for national media coverage.
'find out who' /l\
ReplyDeletel
The people who don't care about the east side homicides and can actually try to do something about them are the self-appointed black "leaders" who are making very good livings by shaking down businesses and government, blaming everybody else for their problems, and offering excuses for criminal behavior.
ReplyDeleteWhen Al Brooks, a member of the police board and a supposed "crime-fighter" says that the reason that some teenagers had a drive-by at a church funeral was because of the "slave master mentality", he simply explains away the very kind of behavior that has destroyed the east side. He should be removed from the BOPC.
When Gwen Grant says that "now that we have our own police chief we can cooperate with the police", that sends a clear message that not cooperating with officers other than black police is OK.
But the media and official KCMO continue to interview folks like this and appoint them to official positions.
We need to challenge the Urban League, the SCLC, the NAACP, the revs, and all the make-believe leaders to step up and emphasize parental supervision, personal responsibility, neighborhood cohesion, and working with the police for their own safety.
We don't need any more money for after-hours community centers, ombudsmen, fixing east side sidewalks, and especially for groups and individuals whose most obvious ability is to make tax money disappear into thin air.
Who will be first?
I'm tired of having my TAXES RAISED.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the death of 99 cuts.
Cut the Fire Department or Police Department.
Quit bleeding the Tax payers.
Give me a break. Raise some taxes. Build some public assets. Maket his country a leader again like when the top Federal Tax Bracket was 90 percent, under Truman and Ike!
ReplyDeleteSly, please don't raise taxes more. My kids are suffering from your poor spending. The crime rate is outrageous. The police are not happy. It's not safe to walk down the street.
ReplyDeleteI need a leader. Not a spender. Right now you are killing my family and KC.
When times are the worse for citizens, Sly is going on an outrageous spending spree. But why should the community support the police when the mayor and police chief obviously don't?
ReplyDeleteCrack be WACK!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I dont care
ReplyDeleteAnother drug infested singer dies well so what.
ReplyDeleteIf she was that great she would have never became a druggie in the first place. She was a media ho just like all the rest one less we have to see in the news now.
The real news of the weekend is that Romney is collapsing and Rick Santorum will rise to defeat our unconstitutional "president."
ReplyDeleteGod provides! Victory waits ahead!
Santorum is the Man!
ReplyDeleteSly is going on an outrageous spending spree. !!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is he NUTS ???
Great post, 0636.
ReplyDeleteAgree with "the people don't care..." I truly believe that people don't care. Almost ashamed to call myself a Kansas Citian. In fact, I'm officially from NY. People in this town are so undeserving of the title leader and they throw it around as if they actually had some meaningful contribution here. Black people voted for him based no his race... they should suffer the most behind this. Same with Alvin Brooks and his position as Commissioner. Never deserved or earned that position. Hope people will remember that when voting for Governor Jay Nixon... he shouldn't have nominated him to be on the police commission. Kansas City defines its leaders as "the next one standing in line." It's certainly not the most capable, articulate or effective... it's whoever is standing in line with their handout.
ReplyDeletecan I fuck her in the as NOW????
ReplyDeleteThe country will be much better off after when a Man of God like Rick Santorum lives in the White House again.
ReplyDeleteFunny that, but Rick Santourms' wife lived with an abortion doctor for 6 years before she married ol Rick! Hahahaha!!
ReplyDeleteBet the mouth breathers choke on that.
More lies from Romney cretins! Guess what! You are not "saints" so that is another lie.
ReplyDeleteGod will punish you pagans.
5:58 Romney will lead our party into Hell, electorally at least.
ReplyDeleteRick Santorum is a Man of God, and that is what the people of Missouri saw and welcomed in overwhelming numbers. Rick won every county in Missouri. Rick is the only candidate who can beat Obama and is forces of Evil. We should never forget that Romney and his type deny Christianity and present themselves as gods.
ReplyDeleteSly is killing us! I don't know how much my family can take. My little girl was crying because we don't have much food in the house.
ReplyDeleteSly, we are living on beans. Give us a break with the over spending.
So what about raising taxes? I remember you guys thinking you were real badasses voting to retain the e-tax a few months ago.
ReplyDeleteWould be hilarious if it weren't so sad.
If things keep going like this Tony might even start thinking that the KC Democratic machine is more a problem than a solution (not holding my breath).
We need government run by God, not a machine.
ReplyDelete5:15
ReplyDeleteI voted against the e tax. I need city officials to worry about issues like emergency services. Not billions in spending on toy trains.
I've got kids to feed. Times are tough for me and other people. This over spending is hurting my family.
LOL over spending LOL
