It's a rarity when Kansas City residents use a bit of common sense regarding an impending tax. Take a look:
Many downtown property owners oppose streetcar tax
This tax ON TOP OF EVEN MORE TAXES FROM MAYOR SLY AND THE CITY COUNCIL are part of a BILLION DOLLAR PROPOSED SPENDING SPREE that might just be a bout MORE TIF . . . Either way, there just really isn't a to sell this bad idea without looking silly and enduring some well-deserved push back.
DEVELOPING . . .
Tony do some research on the SLUT in Seattle. Other cities have built stupid downtown trains with gains what so ever
ReplyDeleteThis dumb idea has tarnish the Downtown Council and began the dismanteling of James popularity.
ReplyDeleteAlthough DT has improved, most businesses remain very fragile and to pile new expenses on them now is bound to unpopular. The idea sucks.
It's not the residents who are against it. It's certain major property owners, most of whom live in the suburbs, who are against it. The vast majority of the downtown residents are for it.
ReplyDeleteLike everything now. The successful pay for the perks of the lesser classes. More socialism and liberalism advanced by Sly and Russ Johnson.
ReplyDeleteWe had all better hope that any vote on the transportation district fails early on. The streetcar proposal will cost way more to operate and maintain than the occupants of that small downtown area can afford, and just like the P&L District, the next place to look for money will be the general fund.
ReplyDeleteThis has been a bizarre and silly idea from the beginning and maybe only some serious analysis of real numbers will bring it to a halt.
A city that works.
Just not for you.
The people I know who own a condo DT do NOT support a property tax increase for this, and they are PRO light rail. The way leaders want to finance this is the objection.
ReplyDeleteIt should be funded by a CID.
ReplyDeleteAnd it should be managed by the already-successful Downtown CID. The people who will pay for it should be the ones who manage it. Not the Port Authority, that has no demonstrated management ability, and who has NO existing relationship (or credibility) with the Downtown community.
Sly has done a decent job keeping the attention away from his strong arm tendencies but this albatross will be a test. He should have been smarter than to be maneuevered into this plan by the young liberals on his staff but he seems determined to test the limts of the city. This will do it.
ReplyDeleteMore posturing from the linen hose bullies. "What's in it for me?". "If I can't control the process or the outcome, then I'll break it.". Bunch of fucking cry-babies.
ReplyDeleteMakes you wonder about the value of the tax breaks and TIFS these guys have received over the years. Huh, Willard? What about you, Nicholson? How much money have you pulled from the public trough?
And for someone to be paying that kind of tax load, think about the underlying value of the assets.
Again, bunch of fucking cry-babies..
Another scam designed to swindle the elderly out of their life savings.
ReplyDeleteMaybe only the middle class with 2 jobs and a modest home north of the river should pay for it. That's how everything else in KCMO is funded. Tax breaks for the poor, tax breaks for ultra wealthy developers. Everyone else, get ready for the wallet rape.
ReplyDeleteOne thing KC MO excels at is swindling citizens out of their money.
ReplyDeleteIt's Bushs fault!
ReplyDeleteYeah, let's see... DST is against it. Why? Because they have systematically bought and torn down half of downtown and turned it in to parking lots. Unneeded parking at that. They are pissed because they will have to pay a bit more for sitting on the land. They may claim that they rebuild downtown buy touting quality hill, but make no mistake, they are one of the worst things to happen to Downtown.
ReplyDeleteAlso, watch out for the friendly boys at Cordish. They hate that black folk might ride those trains. They have fought rail in every city.
Not only tht, 10:39, but they are passed at the Port Authority for getting between them and the trough on the downtown GSA deal. So much so that they tanked the deal rather than let the PA build it.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know who the lead agency is for the streetcar.
DST will fuck this one up, too.
Russ and company are already working hard to fuck it up. They have no credibility with the downtown business owners. Sly will dump him like a $5 whore if this starts going the wrong way and mayor sly sees his reelection dollars going away.
ReplyDeleteThis thing is dead in the water before it ever gets started. They have a grand total of 14 twitter followers at KC Streetcar. Once the downtown biz guys get going this is over.
ReplyDeleteAs Cleaver said 20 yrs ago " touristy fru fru". $100 Million trains from nowhere to nowhere. More urban overhead to send hipsters back to Jo Co.
