TAXI CAB LAWSUIT CLAIMS KANSAS CITY RUNS A MONOPOLISTIC SYSTEM!!!

KC Biz Journal reports on push back related to local biz licensing and those silly Kansas City stickers you see on cabs as of late: "A group of taxi drivers is suing Kansas City for its taxi permit system, which the drivers allege lets taxi companies exploit them. The Kansas City Taxi Cab Drivers Association LLC filed its lawsuit Wednesday in U.S. District Court, claiming the city’s monopolistic system allows driver exploitation."

  1. This system is created by Dan Cofran who was owned by one cab operator when he served on Council and ran for mayor.

Of course, now Dan Cofran is trying to rob city employees of their pensions.

    What a Goddamn scumbag.

  3. We can be real here now - thanks for bring this subject up - after all the concept is lateral. KCTG - the Kansas City Transportation Group is owned by Billy George (or Bill George) a Mobster or wanna be, but at least has mob affiliation. So next time you roll in a yellow you are supporting the "fellow" and the "family"
When you take a "super shuttle" van to the airport you are supporting the "family" Super Shuttle is owned by a mobster out of Arizona.
When you crawl into a 10-10 taxi in in Johnson Co you are supporting the "family"

When you send your kids to school in the KC area on a "share a fare" Mobsters owning that company are bringing your kids to school.

When you dont understand why the KCMO city council does what they do, you can most times blame it on the "family" get a clue people!!!

  5. Goerge is not a mobster but he is a bully who brags and throws his weight around. The suit will go no where but will cost the City some $ unless they want to return to the chaos that resulted from the last time this deregulation shit happenned. There's nothing unconstitutional about the city controlling the size and fitness of an industry.

  6. This suit would allow for individual somalies to run rampant refusing small trips, credit cards and abusing passengers. No city allows it and Kansas City better not. City Hall should tell these foreigners to fuck off.

  7. FUCKED UP FORIEGN DRIVERS2/2/12, 6:40 PM

I've been a driver since the 80's and this will never succeed. The foreigbners are on some civil rights - american dream kick and have come up with a bleeding heart st.louis lawyer whose alraedy drained there pockets of around $40K. They asked me for $ and I told them to get lost. I also know ciy hall people and they don't have even one vote. The City, Bill George and Craig Bates will manauver this thing until it dies out and goes away after these idiot drivers spend hundreds of thousands of $$$$. It's fucked up and Tony you better not get behind it.

  8. 6:40 is right TKC don't get behind these drivers. They need hard nosed guys like George and Bates to keep them in line or things will be very bad. Lots of visitiors, drunks old people and kids ride cabs and no structure would be very bad. I've had a lot of good drivers lately but what happens if the city opens things up?

  10. KCMO corrupt government limiting the taxi cab permit market is good how?

If individual cab owners break the rules by turning down short trips, refuse to take credit cards, then revoke their license. Enforcement works.

KCMO is taking the easy way out and letting established big operators limit competition.

One more way KCMO is CORRUPT, second only to Detroit.

  11. This would get interesting if the Somali's were to press for help from those that they were instrumenal in getting elected.

  12. Will Cofran and his facial hair fetish please just go away?

  13. Cities all over the country have lost lawsuits over monopolistic practices. KC had better do some research.

  14. More money to be paid out.

  15. What is sad is that, While this cab companies makes more than six million dollars in annual revenues, the drivers not just only live on poverty line. They have no health insurance, no retirement, some of them depend on public welfare... If they get in to an automobile accident, their liability taxi insurance only covers their passengers. This taxi drivers ended up paying a 1000 dollars in deductible, which don't even repair their car damage. And if they get injured, their vehicle insurance will not cover their medical cost and most likely the tax payers are the one who pick up their bill. Imagine how many hours this drivers spend driving on streets with out having adequate time of sleeping. This is not just about companies monopolism, it's about our human values, integrity and ethics in general as fellow tax payees. Tony I think You have to dig in inside all these companies with Plaintiff attorney for the truth. There is lot of truth in the closet of Taxi industry of KCMO.
