AIM FOR PEACE GETS $300K!!!

A city ordinance clues us into a sweet cash reward for a controversial Kansas City anti-violence program.

KANSAS CITY WILL SOON APPROVE A GRANT FOR $300K SO THAT AIM 4 PEACE CAN CONTINUE THEIR MISSION!!!

Ordinance #120174

"Authorizing the acceptance and approval of a one-year $300,000.00 grant award agreement with the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City for the Aim4Peace program."

That's a nice chuck of change and probably enough so that Penny Mathis could find a decent wardrobe beyond tube tops & bikinis (Noooo!) . . . I'm not sure how they'll spend the cash but according to TKC TIPSTERS it's important to remember this organization has a penchant for pricey Summer cookouts and lavishly catered meetings that haven't helped to stop much Kansas City homicide.

  1. I'm sure the money will be put to good use.

Buy stock in Ball Park Franks and Kool-Aid.Go long on Kingsford. Buy futures on candle sales.

Should be called Aim For A Piece. Hogs lined up at the public trough.

Blaming crime on poverty is an insult on the poor. Our ruling class commits crime and misdemeanors daily without punishment. Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder can see this. Then consider there aren't many Einsteins in the world, factor in the KC school districts efforts and these young scholars maximize their skills to take what they want from the community.

You can steal more with a fountain pen than a gun. And you will probably never see the inside of a cell.

  3. Well that certainly takes care of the homicide issue!
And now on to the All Star Game, the streetcar fiasco, and the new taxpayer-funded downtown hotel.
You know; the things that KCMO government considers REALLY important.

  4. The status qup is literally killing people on the east side and the black leaders and the city keep doing everything they can to support the status quo.
The responsibility for not having the guts to do what's needed is becoming increasingly clear.

  5. That's $100k less than they gave in 2010, so it's headed in the right direction.

  6. It might be less than what they received in 2010 however when the mayor & city council are talking about "laying off 150 firefighters, hundreds of city workers, taking a million from KCPD,cutting basic services of taxpayers,no money for the neighborhoods but yet they create an ordianace for a group that gets zero results. Well $300,000.00 could have paid the salaries of over 5,000.00 displaced ,layed off workers.

    1. How can you pay 5, 000 salaries with $300, 000????

  7. That's $3,000 per murder.. . .

Actually, most people being murdered on the east side are being killed by black guys.

Thought just a little bit of clarity might help.

  9. Has anyone else noticed that the City Manager keeps calling for the police to consolidate services with the city, but then keeps paying for duplicate programs like AIM 4 Peace? That seems rather hypocritical. Why do we have AIM 4 Peace, a Downtown Parking Authority that writes parking tickets, an Airport Police Department, etc. All of these things are services that were previously provided by the police department. If the City Manager really wants to save money, wouldn’t it make sense to eliminate some of the duplicate services they created under Wayne Cauthen? Eliminating these three duplicate services alone would probably save the taxpayers millions of dollars! Perhaps then the City Manager wouldn’t have to lay off so many other city workers.

  10. Sorry, 8:09, but that would mean Parking Control might actually make it out of the River Crown Plaza area.

And the Airport PD are actually a security detail, not a police unit.

  11. and it will come out of committee with the usual "do pass", no further discussion, unanimously approved by all council members, and aim4peace will be MIA for another year, but generously funded. Now, let's move on to the troost corridor plan, shall we.PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Wow ! 40+ years I have watched City Hall wine and dine and this what they keep coming up with . Shame is what they continue to do with our tax dollars. Talking about laying off police ,firefighterf, city workers all nessesary components for a safe clean city !

    Aim 4 Peace??? Really???

How many BS groups can the "community" make up. As Archie Welch once said,"Round here, we're CATCHERS, no pitchers, and that ain't gonna be enough."

LOVE to see who's on the board of this one...wow.

  16. How in the hell can you cut fire fighters, screw police, and talk about tax increases for water and sewer and then let this kind of crap continue? $300,000? I can waste just as much time and produce just as few results if you only gave me $50,000 to waste. Where do I sign up to waste money? Hell, I'll get an AIM For Peace Trolley and just cruise down the streets throwing beads that say "down with dope up with hope" at people on bus stops. I'll do all of it for $300,000. You get to waste two birds with one checkbook!

  18. Screw Police and Firefighters? WTF? They are the most privileged and entitled groups in the city. Before you talk about minority handouts, take a look at the shit those two groups get away with.

By the way, the police should get paid based on reduction of crime. Bet they would work a hell of a lot harder versus giving tickets to speeders.

  25. The money that's being wasted belongs to the Health Care Foundation of Kansas City. They are the ones funding A4P.

This ordinance simply allows the Director of the Health Department to accept the money from them and to then give it to A4P for the candles and picnics.

  28. Tracy Cole, Aim for a Piece director, stays winning. Any idiot with the most basic understanding of logic should know that you don't count success in murders prevented because you can't measure them! They are unprovable and no statistic to justify feeding this worthless program. And Tracy makes a GOOD salary, plus ll the snacks and Kool Ade she can handle. What a waste of money.

  29. lol Aim for War, your math is a bit off... if $300,000 was used to pay the salaries of 5,000 workers, that would mean each worker gets paid $60 a year.

And if you look at the KC Star database of public employee salaries from 2009, you'll see that even the lowest paid public employee in Kansas City made more than $60 in a week, let alone a year. Shoot, 25 people in the fire department made between $100,000 and $150,000 apiece, and another 10-15 made in the $95,000+ range back then, and that was before the across-the-board average 14% raise that the firefighters took last year. This might be something Tony might like to look into...
