TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! THIS SESSION: WATCH MISSOURI STATE SENATOR VICTOR CALLAHAN DESTROY MAYOR SLY'S PLAN FOR KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!!

At this moment all of the important Kansas City politicos on the state level are making their way to Jefferson City for a bit partying before the work starts.
In this year of a Presidential election, expect the politics to be even tougher than usual.
To wit . . . Without asking for the approval of the City Council or anybody else, Kansas City's Mayor Sly James has committed a great deal of resources to his Mayoral Takeover Plan of Kansas City Public Schools.
Unfortunately . . . It's all going down in flames and the effort might sacrifice other important issues for KCMO.
There are many obstacles standing in the way of Mayor Sly's takeover plan.
For instance, there's almost nothing written down from a legislative perspective.
However . . .
MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE, MISSOURI STATE SENATOR VICTOR CALLAHAN STANDS IN THE WAY OF MAYOR SLY'S KCPS TAKEOVER PLANS AND HE HAS THE POWER/INFLUENCE TO SHOOT DOWN EVERY BIT OF KANSAS CITY LEGISLATION THAT COMES HIS WAY!!!
Two different insiders have told us about Sen. Callahan's commitment to calling out Mayor Sly on this effort to bypass voters.
A source from Jackson County tells us this . . .
"Victor is fired up and he's not playing around on this school thing. I've fought with Victor on political issues and I can tell you that he is tenacious and won't give up until he gets his pound of political flesh."
Remember that Sen. Callahan has his own bill (SB434) that he's pushing that seemingly builds on a previous political coup that took away more than a few Independence Schools from The KCPS.
A rather bold and AWESOME TKC TIPSTER talks about this education issue in terms of voter representation . . .
"Nobody is asking the Mayor any hard questions. Victor is going to make Sly explain himself and talk about the real details of any plan. So far the City Council is too weak to do this . . . They're too scared to create any fuss, so they won't even do their job. Thankfully, since the Mayor picked this fight with Sen. Callahan, now we'll see somebody give the voters more than just a speech and a smile. If the Mayor wants KC Schools, he's gonna have to come up with a real plan and legislation to back it up. Anything less is just empty talk."
On the opposite end of the spectrum . . .
IT'S WORTH NOTING THAT EVEN SOME OF THE MAYOR'S STRONGEST SUPPORTERS AREN'T COMING OUT TO SUPPORT THE TAKEOVER PLAN!!!
Going into this session it's important to realize that Mayor Sly's agenda comes at a very real cost of other priorities for KCMO and runs the risk of creating a very real divide among local State legislators.
DEVELOPING . . .
next up. Nuclear fission.
ReplyDeleteGame on Victor.
ReplyDeleteI love Victor. He is going to hand Sly his ass on a paper plate on this one.
ReplyDeleteThing about victor is, he doesn't care when people call him racist. The old kc school board tried that trick and it went down in flames. Even kc voted against their own schools.
ReplyDeleteAnd another generation of young people lose as the "adults" fight over who's the most important.
ReplyDeleteAt least there's always the TKC "Power Players" list.
What a joke!
Victor is threw after this burn it down plan and i am sure Sly will wait and get his revenge when he makes his next move.
ReplyDeleteCallahan has always gotten his power from messing things up instead of fixing them . This will be no different he will hurt the kids without looking back
ReplyDeleteVictor is smarter than Sly, and is a far better political tactician.
ReplyDeleteVictor 1 Sly 0
ReplyDeleteYou can be right on an issue, but wrong on the process and lose. That is what Sly is doing due to poor staff work. They have mishandled this from the beginning. The State Legislature is not the City Council who was so happy to be rid of the Flunk that they do anything the new Mayor asks. The Mayor did not consult with key legislative leaders who might have helped him corral Victor so now is man to man and Sly is out of his element in Jeff City.
ReplyDeletemaybe someone can answer this for me:
ReplyDeleteHow is having Sly takeover the schools in the least way democratic? He was elected by people outside of the KCPS attendance area. He was elected by a lot of white parents who send their kids to Center, Park Hill, and NKC schools. If he had to run in the KCPS district, that would be one thing. He didn't.
How can he claim any legitimacy in the schools debacle?
Jim
With the endless stream of bozos who have "run" the school district, any legitimacy has been lost a very long time ago.
ReplyDeleteSly set this move up for failure. Sly's people maneuvered Callahan to a bogus discussion at Union Station. Once there Sly tried to publicly bully Callahan into going along with this orphan idea. Sly had a better chance trying to keep Amy Winehouse off drugs and drink.
ReplyDeleteWhy has Sly been dismissive to this council? Why did Sly keep council out of the loop? Why is the council going along and staying out of this? When did all of Kansas City agree to have the KCPS thrown into our local municipal government. Smells like MAST.
Sly can't look to 4th district to have his back on this one... the Council District boundary changes pissed off a whole lot of people in 4th.
This was a Diana Kander idea and Victor hates the Kanders.
ReplyDeleteSly's staff will be his downfall. They are inept and rude. Surely he can do better.
ReplyDeleteAre they really that bad? I have met a few of them and they seem very professional.
ReplyDeleteMost people who know the Kanders, especially Diana and her subversive dishonorable tactics, don't like them. Victor will school them. Chalk one up for victor for being a good judge of character.
ReplyDeleteGive me a break, this isn't about the Kanders. This is about the KCPS. It's a problem that has brought down KCMO for at least 25 years.
ReplyDeleteThe council isn't "week" or even weak and just supporting Sky's plan. They have distanced themselves from it. Taking over the school district is a mayoral priority not a council priority.
ReplyDeleteVictor will kill it.

The KC School District has been failing for the last 25/30 years. Victor got the KC schools in Independence changed to the Independence School District and it has been a success. Sen. Callahan is extremely bright and the brightest poltician and political tactician in Jackson County. My money is on Callahan now and always.
ReplyDelete11:59 PM - Good call. Looks like Tony just fixed that.
ReplyDeleteVictor is a profiteering snake. If there is a dime to made out of mucking this up he will make it. You can be sure of one thing, he wont' fix anything. He is only into helping he and his cronies, not doing good work.
ReplyDeleteDiana Kander is the very picture of over confident and under skilled.
ReplyDeleteAdd Genaro Ruiz and Jim Giles to the equation and you will see "real stupid."
