TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY'S TRACY WARD AND THE LIBERTY RESTORATION PROJECT PROCLAIM: "WE TOLD YOU SO" AND PLAN A SATURDAY RED LIGHT CAMERA PROTEST!!!

The opponents of Kansas City Red Light Cameras have every right to crow.

After reports from the KCPD that the cameras don't really keep streets as safe as we were led to believe . . . The topic of surveillance, revenue generation and local government efficiency is once again before Kansas City voters and residents.

Some very so smart TKC readers remind us Los Angeles got rid of their red light cameras.

So it's not unreasonable that Kansas City could be next.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY ACTIVIST TRACY WARD AND THE LIBERTY RESTORATION PROJECT HAVE BEEN REINVIGORATED IN THEIR ONGOING FIGHT AGAINST KANSAS CITY RED LIGHT CAMERAS!!!

And then . . .

THE GROUP STARTS PROTESTING AGAIN THIS WEEKEND ON SOUTHWEST TRAFFICWAY!!!

The Liberty Restoration Project has a great deal of street cred on this subject considering they have opposed these Kansas City cameras for at least two years now.

Take a look at their latest presser that's sure to be a part of Kansas City's tense upcoming budget discussions . . .

Red Light Cameras Are Not the Answer Says KCPD, LRP

Coming on the heels of a newly released study by the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department indicating that red light traffic cameras are unsafe, local members of the Liberty Restoration Project simply say “we told you so.”

As an effort of education, regarding alternative, safe solutions to the controversial cameras, the LRP invites members of the public, and local media, to join them this Saturday, January 28th at 39th and Southwest Trafficway, the site that holds the dubious distinction of being the first to see the red light cameras switched on in Kansas City.

From Noon until 2:00, the organization will work to show what they've known for a number of years: while red light cameras generate revenue, they also generate more accidents, and pose a danger to the public at large.

Saturday's event will shine a light on those dangers while bringing to light the fact that the cameras are a moneymaker for ATS, the private corporation that sells the devices to the city.

Tracy is doing the right thing. We need to get a petition going to get rid of these things. Let's finally put it in front of voters.

  8. I'll put my boner in front of the voters. Thank you Tracy Ward!

  9. The Council won't get rid of these things easily. They do generate revenue and according to the report mostly from nonresidents. And I would presume the company that installs them has bought most of the councilpersons.

  10. If tracy's so interested in other people's liberty, why doesn't she work to help reduce homicides in KCMO?

  15. "...they also generate more accidents, and pose a danger to the public at large" is a bit of a reach from the things just not being effective deterrents to red line running. Unless they're falling down and crashing through windows. And personally, I'm okay with generating some revenue from the idiots who run the lights.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 10:31: They generate more accidents because people slam on their brakes in order to avoid a ticket and the people behind them, because they're not paying attention, are on a phone or texting, or simply don't plan on an emergency stop while the light is still yellow, rear-end them.

I don't know what the other poster may have in mind for working to reduce homicides on the east side, but let's start with this:
Instead of city hall and the media fawining over people like Gwen Grant, the revs, Al Brooks, and all the rest of the self-appointed east side "leaders" who do nothing but shake down government and companies for money for themsleves, tell these folks to go back to their own neighborhoods and work on some parental responsiblity, civilized behavior, neighborhood cohesion, and cooperating with the police to play some role in their own safety.
Then they might be providing some actual leadership that helps someone other than themselves. And some investment might be possible when there isn't so much crime and violence.
And if the old gang can't deliver, find someone who can. There's lots of good young leadership in the black community, but the same old duds are standing in the way.
Until people stop killing each other at the rate of two every week of the year, job training, capital projects, grocery stores, or much of anything else aren't even possible.
We might all see how many followers these folks really have.

  19. Uh, according to the article, LA discontinued their red-light cameras primarily because it was a money loser (albeit the article also states that their data is mixed on whether cameras enhance safety or not).

  23. When people who DON'T run red lights get tickets for running red lights, then you can complain. Until then, STFU.

  24. Ok Tracy, take away red light cameras. Then we can post officers on every busy intersection and when they stop you for running a red light...wait for it...wait for it...they hit you in the head with a large metal object. That sounds like a good alternative to red light cameras doesn't it.

  25. Say what you will, Tracy was right all along.

  26. No none of you are right and for sure the pink haired wonder.

It's another project the city of Kansas City got into that nobody has a clue how to make it work.

So suck it up and deal with it you voted the idiots into office.
