FREEDOM INC. LEADER CRAIG BLAND IS OUT AMID A MISSOURI ETHICS INQUIRY AND A CHANGING LANDSCAPE FOR POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEES IN KANSAS CITY!!!
Mr. Bland was regarded as a reformer and during his tenure Freedom Inc. earned a noticeably higher profile in the recent Mayoral and City Council election cycle.
However . . . Campaign finance reporting troubles, new Missouri rules & regs regarding funding and Kansas City limits on individual donations have changed the playing field for PACs like Freedom Inc.

Also . . . Freedom Inc. often serves as a punching bag for a great many people of every demographic persuasion who don't like Kansas City's proud tradition of insider politics.

Mr. Bland was most certainly an influential local power broker but it will be fun seeing a great many people hurry to assume the title . . . Even it if means taking on a great deal of controversy and problems facing Freedom Inc.

A full audit team could spend years going through the clubs, not-for-profits, organizations, candidates, developers, and all the rest of the "leaders" on the east side, not to mention the school district itself. When you consider the "culture" of the leadership is shaking government and businesses down for cash, emplying family and friends on the public dime, and getting as much as possible for yourself, it's sad, but not surprising, that the east side has deteriorated into what it has.
ReplyDeleteBut fighting over what few crumbs there are left is the rule of the day and you sure wouldn't want folks who may actually have some expertise and experience and might actually have the community's best interests in mind involved in the "power structure".
But as long as the black community puts up with this crap it's going to continue.

ReplyDeleteI know Craig Bland and have always found him to be an intelligent, articulate, and well-regarded leader. I know him to be an honest man. He does not make false promises and deny later that he made them. It will be hard for Freedon Inc. to find a replacement and I know that many people regreat that he is leaving. D. Kennedy, member Ja.
