Not so long ago The Plaza wanted them classified as "visual blight" and then kick panhandlers and all manner of hobos to the curb or to another part of town.
Jackson County would rather pay for more staff in order to sing the praises of Mike Sanders rather than spend cash on homeless programs.
And Kansas City has reduced services for po'folk and hobos as well.
Around Downtown KC hobos are usually the cause of most car break-ins for loose change, mobile phones and old CDs . . . So it's not like they're doing themselves any favors.
Still . . .
There's a persistent myth about how much Kansas City "cares" about the less fortunate. However, the manner in which most voters and local politicos avoid any discussion of the seemingly increasing number of hobos around this town is a direct contradiction of so much metro charity hype.

Anybody ever think of how one gets homeless? Let's say one of us normal folk came onto some hard times and became homeless. What would be the first thing we think? "Damn, this homeless shit sucks. Better make a change." For some reason though, most homeless I see, have been that way for years, if not decades. That tells me that being homeless can't be that bad in this city OR NOBODY WOULD KEEP BEING HOMELESS!!!! Now there are exceptions but if you have all the necessary things provided (clothes, food, etc.), why would you opt out? The reason there are so many fucking homeless is being we make it easy as shit to be that way. Think about that when you give your dollar to the dude with the sign.

ReplyDeleteMost people know that a large part of the homeless population is mentally ill. Because there are fewer resources to take care of them, they are left to the streets and represent a danger to themselves and other people.
It's a case of revenue Tony not politics.
