The latest on a local auto worker controversy . . .
KSHB: Workers at the General Motors Fairfax plant in KCK voted to authorize a strike Thursday.
Kansas City context: We're in the middle of a global economic decline, there A LOT of unemployed people in this town and there's no putting this one off on leadership . . . This was a worker vote and maybe a decision that might not reflect a clear understanding of the new American economic reality.
ON THE OTHER HAND . . . It's a fact of life that Owners and the rich aren't suffering as much the rest of us . . . In fact, GM is back on top as the world's largest automaker . . . So maybe this call to share the wealth with the people who actually work to create it might be a welcomed trend that pulls this nation out of the economic malaise that's bringing down the rest of the planet.
DEVELOPING . . .
As a taxpayer, and therefore a partial owner of GM, I would suggest these folks get a better grip on the reality of the US economy today and also understand that a couple of decent quarters for GM after it went through bankruptcy doesn't make it the company it once was.
ReplyDeleteThere won't be another bailout and international competition isn't going to let up.
This reminds me of Eastern Airlines when Frank Borman was president there. He told the mechanics that if they struck, the company would disappear.
Anyone flown Eastern Air Lines recently?
of course what do you expect general motors took the gov bailout and now it starting to come around then the greedy employees want more money. get a check on whats going on around general motors theres people that would give there arm for a job and you guys are bitching about the job. i m never going to buy another american made vehicle
ReplyDeleteStupid people acting in a group. Do you guys realize what is out there waiting for you? Take the deal.
ReplyDeleteI think GM paid the money back.
ReplyDeleteIs that right?
No they have not paid the money back! Only a portion, most was converted to stock if I am not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteThere are some serious idiots out there. If GM wanted to make a statement they should fire the union and hire the employees. This would be a huge cost savings that could be seen on each vehicle. I hear it is about 7500 on each vehicle before it is even produced.
The government "invested in the new GM" at over $50 per share, the stock is now in the low $20s and dropping. Not to mention the bondholders were treated illegally by the government in favor of the union.
ReplyDeleteThe actions of the workers at the local Gub'mint Motors factory shouldn't surprise anyone. They see pay raises for federal employees and over at Local 42 and they figure, "hey, we're government employees now, where's our pay raise?"
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonder that nigger boy president can sit down with all those GM lackeys kissing his ass every minute of the day!
ReplyDeleteThe UAW misleads "the union brothers and sisters". The whole group is in denial, the economy has imploded and they think it's business as usual. The US auto industry failed to change with the times and now it's just failed.
ReplyDeleteYou all are experts! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of morons! They should be happy to have a job. Off to Jiffy Lube with all of them... oops, there aren't enough jobs at Jiffy Lube! Back to work union stooges!
ReplyDeleteI hope you all lose your good paying jobs the economy sucks some of us don't have jobs you idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHelp Wanted. Top Pay $17 a day. Free Food Biscuits and Tea. Room and Board Provided.
ReplyDeleteGm announced plans to keep and expand fairfax. GM is in the black now.
ReplyDeleteThey need to strike now for their rights as workers, no better time.
Auto manufacturing is a skilled labor and it is not unreasonable to ask that you make 60k a year and have healthcare.
Before people willingly gave up their unions for the 'right to work' they had those benefits too!
You'all need to strike since you're going to be in a shutdown for lack of demand anyway. This ain't hard to figure out folks...
DeleteSince when is standing in an assembly line skilled labor?
ReplyDeleteAnother expert comment from a person that has never done the job. Moron!
ReplyDelete1700 employees make 340k cars a year, or 200 cars per employee per year. They sell for 23-44k each, or say an average of 35,000, times 200 equals $7,500,000.00 per employee. Also each car has an average of 2500 different parts each.
ReplyDeleteSo if an employee equals 7.5m, what's the gripe about paying them 1% of their thruput?
The problem is your typical greedy republican POS corportrist. They all want slaves to do the work for tea and a rice bowl.
Labor haters = leeches.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of union employees and the good wages and benefits they get in return for their activism, solidarity and bargaining power. What can I do about that?
ReplyDeleteOh, I know, I can complain about unions! Greedy working people, always wanting more pay for your increased productivity and whining about getting your share of the profits you make possible! You are bad Americans. (my boss's media tell me so)
That should make an excellent essay in your senior class at the KCMSD.
DeleteI am a robot. I work on the line at Fairfax. I AM skilled labor. I make 36 perfect welds every minute the line is running. I do this because UNION LABOR cannot do what I do. Actually I can build the whole car. I can even design it. Humans are stupid. Humans in unions are stupider. Wake up and smell my robot fart.
ReplyDeleteChillens, chillens come on in hyeer. U R not very smart so jus stand in line and do what dey tell U to do. Take UR wage, give me mine, and take the rest to yo momma. She now noe best
ReplyDeleteLets see, I get paid 45 bucks an hour to watch a machine put a rivet into a door. I have fancy health insurance, lovely pension benefits, and the added perks of being able to smoke weed and drink beer in the parking lot during my lunch break. DOn't you think i deserve more money and benefits. I'm not going to rest till we can smoke meth and crack in the parking lots during lunch.
ReplyDeleteSTFU you overpaid stoners.
