There's a persistent and racist myth that hip-hop music causes violence in Kansas City.
Never mind that a CD, radio or Internet music stream has never killed anyone. Not even once.
Online pundits point to a "culture" of violence that surrounds hip-hop music but can only accurately point to one small niche in a wide and diverse art form that has defined popular music for almost a quarter century. Most of the time, old white dudes just seem woefully dated when they remember objectionable music that created media hype and manufactured criticism to boost sales among WHITE teens during the early 90s.
On the other hand . . . There is a very real culture of death that exists in this nation and in Kansas City.
There really does seem to be a reactionary aspect of American culture that supports soldiers desecrating dead bodies or draconian legislation aimed at chasing children from school based on paperwork errors. Expediency and a scary mob mentality are at the center of an American cultural decay that doesn't belong to any particular demographic group.
As violence moves to the suburbs, the idea that music or people of color can take the blame for so much domestic drama ending horribly is patently false.
LIKE IT OR NOT THE ROOT CAUSE OF SO MUCH KANSAS CITY VIOLENCE AND DEATH IS THAT THIS TOWN REGULARLY DEVALUES THE LIVES OF ITS RESIDENTS!!!
Take a good listen to talk radio and you'll hear nitwits supporting about summary executions for undocumented immigrants or landmines used against women and children crossing the border. So many armchair vigilantes invoke the death penalty for offenses as minor as jaywalking.
Let's also consider the very real disparity when it comes to our mass media attention span for murder East vs. West of Troost.
All of these factors have combined to create a very real lack of respect for life in the Greater Kansas City Area.
And so the body count continues in places that become increasingly surprising and defy the explanations of trolls who would rather blame demographic groups than deal with an overall deficiency in American culture that has become increasingly reactionary, emotional and cruel.

You keep trying to equate the ongoing black on black murders on the east side with the occasional murder in other parts of the city. That dog won't hunt T. And you don't do the regular decent hard working folks on the east side any favors with that line of rhetoric. They are trapped in a war zone, caught in the crossfire, being eaten by their young. ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is, Dr. Irina Puscariu made an unsuccessful attempt at suicide in December. She was hospitalized at North Kansas City Hospital for 12 days in Decemeber after her failed attempt to overdose.
ReplyDeleteYet, less than a month later, Dr. Puscariu gets her wish and leaves the land of the living.

Tony, not sure why you condemn talk radio so much. We are doing God's (Tebow's) work.
