Yes, I can just see the patrons of TMC running up to the counter to buy the garden salad with vinegarette dressing and washing it down with a bottle of Perrier.)
ReplyDelete( "Hey, mutha-fucka, I wants that salad deep fried.")
You are fucking joking, right? This is anpther example of the tbougt police taking charge. Truman is hardly in the middle of a "food dessert". Within a mile in at least three directions are 50 restaurants of varrying prices and bills of fare.
ReplyDeleteYour headline is wrong. No apology. Rehash of Bluford's piece in the Star
ReplyDeleteActually I can see the reasoning behind this. Eating healthy fast food is expensive. Eating McCrap isn't. They are just trying to cater to their clientele.
ReplyDeleteThe whole fucking "food island" thing isn't about the price point or geography of healthy choices, and to reduce the conversation to "where" and "how much" for a salad shows just how out of touch the food police are (although it does bring a certain amount of satisfaction seeing Bluford get shit on his shoes).
ReplyDeleteIt's about the effort it takes to schlep groceries home on the bus. It's about having a working stove, a clean and pest-free kitchen, and electricity and/or gas to cook with. It's about having a working refrigerator to store the food in. It's about having pots, pans, plates and silverware to cook with and eat from. It's about having the ability to wash up afterwards.
Keep in ming that poor folks eat their greens with plenty of bacon grease, too. How you gonna change THAT?
Replacing a McDonald's with a fru-fru fresh restaurant doesn't change anything except how far the fat poor folks will now have to go for a Big Mac.
if memory serves that Mickie D's has been there since like the late 80's or early 90's. So I dont think this Bluford dude brought it in or anything and if they are trying to get it out I can only imagine how fun dealing with a contract with a global company like McD's would be.
