TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! REALITY CHECK FOR KANSAS CITY RESIDENTS STILL FRUSTRATED WITH REDISTRICTING AND THREATENING A REFERENDUM!!!

TKC EXCLUSIVE FACT . . .

Still frustrated with A TOTAL SHUT OUT on Redistricting, a few residents of Waldo, Brookside and South Kansas City have been talking about the possibility of a referendum to overturn the Council Ordinance.

A REFERENDUM TO THWART THE REDISTRICTING VOTE BY THE MAYOR AND MOST OF THE CITY COUNCIL IS A HORRIBLE IDEA THAT'S JUST AS DIVISIVE AS THE LAST FEW MEETINGS OF THE PROCESS!!!

Nevertheless . . . TKC TIPSTERS want people to have the facts regarding the arduous process . . .

"A referendum requires a notice of intent with 100 signatures within 10 days of passage of the ordinance followed by petitions totaling 10% of the vote cast for mayor: 7,143 signatures."

So, a week after the vote, time is quickly running out for this move but it's interesting that folks were considering as much. Clay Chastain is the master of putting these Citizen Initiative petitions together but I'm not sure the group of frustrated residents could afford his out-of-town expertise . . .

What this talk really means . . . Despite the best efforts of a great many local leaders and a last minute tirade by Kansas City's Mayor . . . The legacy of Kansas City Redistricting for 2011 should that of a diverse group working together to develop a fair and equitable map . . . Instead, this process has mostly been defined by a small but loud group of people who are STILL upset that they didn't get their way.

DEVELOPING . . .

  2. If folks in KCMO spent just a little more time being involved in who they elect and what they do afterward, and WAY less time on issues of redistricitng and the organization of government, they'd be alot better off.
Every little group wants government to support ONLY thier narrow interests and agenda and can't quite figure out that the whole thing will either rise or fall together. And all the ethnic group, special interst, neighborhood, insider, and business "leaders" in the city just can't change the status qup because that's what gives them their power.
You don't need a mayor. What KCMO needs is a sixth grade classroom monitor.

  6. Tony, you haven't done a post about Arizona being sued over their immigration law by the Department of Justice, or about the sheriff being sued by the same Department of Justice for systematically harassing American Citizens of Mexican descent.

  7. Sharp's tirade is going nowhere. Much more pressing issues to worry about.

  9. Just curious. What is more important then what is going on in KC. I don't live there but I see the effects of there screw ups effecting the whole metro area. Until the city figures out that the whining needs to stop and the schools be fixed, the whole area will suffer.

  10. Sharp failed at MAST and how the hell he ever got on the council is beyond me, just goes to show how the citizens of KC sleep through elections and don't pay attention to a candidates past. History always repeats itself!!

  11. CD, you sound hopeful that we are going to learn from our mistakes. Unfortunately, that never happens.
