TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY WHITE PEOPLE FEAR THE UPCOMING AT-LARGE CITY COUNCIL REALIGNMENT DEBATE!!!

There's a misguided notion that we're done with the Kansas City Redistricting hot mess.
To quote one of my heroes, John Bender, from the classic 80's move The Breakfast Club . . . "Not even close . . . BUD!!!"
A quick recap of the current sitch . . .
Local East Side Leader Clinton Adams earned a TOTAL VICTORY with his efforts to secure a map that was formulated after months and weeks of discussion among the Redistricting Committee.
The map protected minority voting rights and evened out growing population numbers in the Northland.
However . . .

Let's remember at the last minute a cadre of angry white people from Brookside/Waldo and South KC bemoaned the process.
Some say they were stirred up by Council Dude John Sharp . . . However, I noticed the Brookside/Waldo folks really didn't want anything to do with South KC and their reaction seemed a bit unexpected . . . Given that they're only fighting over a few blocks.
Nevertheless . . .
NOW THE LATEST ITEM THAT HAS THE LAST REMAINING WHITE PEOPLE IN KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI STIRRING IS THE WORD OF AN EFFORT TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF AT-LARGE COUNCIL PEOPLE!!!
We've blogged this before and the idea isn't new . . .
HOWEVER, AN E-MAIL FROM CLINTON ADAMS IS CIRCULATING AMONG THE WHITE FOLKS OF BROOKSIDE/WALDO AND CAUSING A BIT OF PANIC!!!
Here's a passage that's causing fear:
"This 6-6 configuration is the gravamen of the inequities in the city electoral process that denies our communities equitable representation on the council. We have to succeed and in my view we have to stick with a 9-3 model."
Yep . . .
NOW THERE'S OPEN TALK OF CITY COUNCIL REALIGNMENT THAT STRIKES FEAR IN THE HEARTS OF MANY (WHITE PEOPLE) IN BROOKSIDE/WALDO!!!
Quickly . . .
The pros of a council realignment . . .
- A chance for more direct access to Council members . . .
- Smaller Districts make it easier for a neighborhood candidate to get elected . . .
- Presumably, a smaller District makes a grassroots campaign possible . . . But big money candidates still win in every context.
The cons . . .
- Kansas City white people know this will lead to more minorities on the City Council . . .
- The current configuration of the City Council makes it (theoretically) more difficult for a minority candidate to win "At-Large" . . . The current configuration of the Council and lack of minority representation proves this out . . . But, SOME PEOPLE LIKE IT THAT WAY!!!
So . . . It's back to the drawing board regarding how we're going to cut up Kansas City . . .

Remember that the last debate left a lot of people with hurt feelings . . . IF this discussion really gets going . . . Expect even more divisive debate this time around as well.
DEVELOPING . . .
Feelings. Fuck you.
ReplyDeletehow many scared evil white devils have contributed to your defense fund? Vs blacks or hispanics ? The poke fun at whitey shtick was kind of endearing the first few thousand times. Now it's just a disrespectful back hand to the majority of your readers. Merry christmas bitches.
ReplyDeleteThey should do away with all the council districts and have everyone elected at large. Then you wouldn't have all the fights over who get what crumbs off the table after the developers are through eating the city's cakes.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter how you organize KCMO government. You just keep eleting pretty much the same kinds of duds year after year. It's no wonder only about 20% of the registered voters even vote. And that's for mayor!
"Clinton Adams, east side leader". That's who's responsible for that disaster? Thousands of abandoned buildings; no developemnt; ramoant crime; two murders every week.
ReplyDeleteThat Clinton Adams?
He must be very proud.
And east side residents must be pleased with what Clinton, his sister, and all the other "east side leaders" have accomplished for them over the years.
So where are the REAL east side leaders?
White people don't care about kcmo. We all live in JOCO. Redistricting doesn't matter when the city isn't growing. Sooner than later we will have all that is worth having and kcmo will have the devito of this twins reference.
ReplyDeleteThis from a wop pretending to be a mexican. You're whiter than the people you continually denigrate.
ReplyDeleteTony has to be the single biggest racist involved in the Kansas City "media." Grow up and get a real job. White people don't keep anybody down in this town.
ReplyDeleteI love me some Tony!!!! Merry Christmas and keep up your awesome blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm white; so's my husband. We live in Waldo. We vote. And we don't care about the redistricting. We think it's just fine if more qualified people--of any color or ethnicity--are elected around here. There may indeed be a few white people who are angry about this issue, but we don't know any of them. (Oh, and there are many minorities living here in Waldo, BTW.)
ReplyDeleteWe vote. And we don't care about the redistricting.
ReplyDelete------------
The best thing I've read about Kansas City all week.
Tony, sometimes white people are pretty good.
The whole redistricting mess continues to leave destruction and hurt feelings in its wake. It's a shame the Const. required that we do this every 10 years. I hear that some people who had planned to run for various offices have now had to move so they can run for office in the new district. Maybe we'll get some better people in office this way. I hope so. "The old order changeth, yielding place to the new"
ReplyDeleteThe city charter will have to be changed for a 9-3 configuration. Clinton and Gwen and that crook Tindall don't have that kind of clout. Melba is an at-large minority council member (who does a lousy job by the way), and John Sharp is the blackest white guy around, so minorities can be elected. Unfortunately, none of the good ones run.
ReplyDeleteThe votes for the charter change isn't going to happen any time soon.
ReplyDeleteLook outside.
Agree @ 10:30
ReplyDeleteMinority means you statistically will have less representation. In KCMO minorities now have a majority representation, Mayor and police chief. High crime and a worthless school system just to name a few. Stop complaining about the color and worry about leadership while there is still a city to live in.
ReplyDeleteWhen minorities are the majority, are they still minorities?
ReplyDeleteI guess covering redistricting Cleaver was made beneficiary off last year didn't rise to Tony's idea of racism.
ReplyDeleteCleaver got to be rid of all us whites in Cass. And we said nary a word. Mostly because he never gave two fucks about anything south of 155th st anyway.
That, and I prefer to be represented by someone who is not a member of the Democrat Socialist Party.
Even if Hartzler is a TeaTurncoat.
It's all's about's the black's man.
ReplyDeleteKC is a shithole...glad we left. It's gotten worse!
