Just a quick note that puts us ahead of the game for people who keep really good track of the page . . .
First of all, I should have blogged this yesterday morning but I recently spoke with Councilman Jon Sharp and he noted that this redistricting deal will probably be fixed with small tweaks and compromises . . . He noted a way to keep Latino Representation at a consistent level between both maps IN ADDITION TO protecting traditionally African-American Voting Districts in the 3rd and 5th.
Still . . . There's a great deal of animosity directed at Councilman Sharp and he's taking a hit for leading opposition of the map approved by the Redistricting Committee . . .
Nevertheless, behind the scenes at this moment there's a move to abandon a plan to come up with a new map altogether . . . That's important.
Finally . . . Look for a even more South KC residents to trek to City Hall . . . There's a definite sense of urgency from that part of Kansas City on this redistricting mess . . .
We'll see how it develops today . . . STAY TUNED!!!
The only reason there's a sense of urgency in SKC is because Sharp keeps stirring everybody up.
ReplyDeleteSharp's leading the opposition because he will lose his base if the map is adopted.
