Not everybody in the metro area is a gracious and awesome as Arianny Celeste . . .
To wit . . .
TAKE A LOOK AT MORE SUBURBANITE HATE FOR GREEN ZONE JOBS CREATED BY CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER!!!
Take a look . . .
"A Lee's Summit energy auditor alleges that Kansas City officials acted unfairly this summer when they issued a $1.2 million no-bid contract for weatherizing homes in the city's Green Impact Zone."
(Self)righteous indignation aside . . . Of all the no-bid contracts in all of U.S. Government . . . This ALLEGATION might be one of the most petty and pretty much increases the TOTALLY IMAGINARY divide between suburbanites and the urban core.
Issuing no-bid under-the-table contracts is the least of the Green Zone's problems. A complete audit of how the money's been spent so far would show it has more in common with the good old days in the school district than with any serious effort at weatherizing anything.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly does a $60,000/year ombudsman do?
Jermaine looks good in a suit. That much is for sure.
ReplyDeleteNo bid contracts are rarely a good idea.
ReplyDeleteThe last time the Star reported on Green Zone expenditures administrative costs had hit close to 100%, but the actual work was practically nil.
I suggest you go back and read how the government's contractors made fortunes selling rotting meat and bug-riddled flour to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The contractors lined their pocket and sold the good meat on the open market.
ReplyDeleteThe no-bid contract to Halliburton in Iraqi fits this pattern as well except it was $10 for a can of coke.
At least when the Indians at the Shawnee Mission were being starved the religious leaders who were in charge of the BIA were just foolish and too trusting in the good will of mankind.
As usual the spoils go to those who support those in office, politics is ALL about controling the contracts.
Is it any surprise that cleaver was involved?
ReplyDeleteOrphan--you're right, of course, but are you saying that just because these contracts have been used in the past we're stuck with them forever?
ReplyDeleteThe feds have specific exceptions for no-bid (or sole source) contracts. Shouldn't KC have something similar?
Id like to know how many homes have been served. I read an article somewhere that it was upwards of 3 or 4 homes in Seattle or Portland, and the funds were already gone, all to staff and training.
ReplyDeleteOTR nails it! Just another SCAM! No surprises here, BEST damn government money can buy.
ReplyDeletenigga already had dat money spent befo the first energy efficient window went in!
ReplyDeleteThis is a downpayment for assistance with labor relations.
ReplyDeleteIt will be needed when the Local 500 layoffs occur after the first of the year.
This is a little bitty piece of pork that Cleaver brought home. It ain't much but it's all the Rev can do, given his severe limitations. Cleaver hopes it will be enough to buy him enough votes to keep hanging in DC, but the money for the Green Zone resulted in nothing more than buying votes and support. Shame on Cleaver. But at least he didn't use the money to take his family to Disneyland like the last time.
ReplyDeleteI want to know how many homes actually has benefitted from this program not many from my understanding. Some people were on the waiting least for over a year before they received the service. I don't get it. Don't kansas city already have a weatherzation program that received federal and state funding. What is the difference? I jus think the green impact zone is another wasted program.
ReplyDeleteAnother slush fund for Cleaver Cronies! Very few homes if any benefited; the plan only helps owner occupied homes, not many of them in the area impacted. Hey Cleaver, I've got a carwash for sale at 38th and Troost maybe you can divert some of the funds and buy yourself another carwash with tax payer money! Oh yeah, you already did that once!
