For once, I agree with Kansas City's so-called paper-of-record in an article about a new sales dude for cowtown convention biz . . . On the hand, the solution to this problem IS NOT an effort to build a SILLY Downtown Hotel subsidized by taxpayers.
With airline hassles, teleconferencing, and other technical advances, conventions are becoming yesterday's news. And why would any organization want to stick their folks in downtown KCMO when there are so many other much more interesting and fun places to visit?
ReplyDeleteAs long as we keep wasting money on this endless chase, let's bring back the trollies, build the new hotel, and hope that EBT and other ghosts of the past show up too.
The fake P&L District already costs the taxpayers $12 million a year. How much more of this "success" can anybody afford?
EBT still exists -- 435 and State Line.
ReplyDeleteDowntown is a fun place to visit for a conference, but we don't need and can't afford a mega-hotel.
ReplyDeleteConvention biz is down in most markets, and it's not coming back. Throwing good money after bad is the kind of stupid thing the KC Council might do!
