KANSAS CITY CAN LEARN FROM THE KCPD HOT SPOT PROGRAM!!!

KSHB turns to the community to talk about the KCPD "Hot Spot" program:

"Community groups and neighbors say they are concerned about this homicide spike. They’re hoping a new police initiative will help."

It's way too early to judge the program yet . . .

And it's worth nothing that "Hot Spot" targeting has led to increased arrests AND A BETTER HOMICIDE CLEARANCE RATE THAN LAST YEAR!!!

It's important that everyone remember that the police are an important player in discussions about the murder rate . . .

BUT ONLY A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN INVOLVING MULTIPLE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IS GOING TO WORK AND SO FAR THERE HASN'T BEEN THE LEADERSHIP IN KANSAS CITY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS INITIATIVE THAT HAS REDUCED VIOLENCE IN OTHER CITIES!!!

Let's make it plain . . .

THE KCPD CHIEF HAS SHOWN LEADERSHIP, PUT FORWARD A PLAN AND SEEN POSITIVE RESULTS!!! NOW IT'S TIME FOR OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO FOLLOW HIS LEAD AND COOPERATE IN A COMPREHENSIVE EFFORT!!! ANYTHING LESS WILL FAIL TO ADDRESS THE HORRIFIC LOCAL MURDER RATE IN A WAY THAT INVOLVES THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY AND OUR ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS!!!

Again, this is Kansas City's MOST IMPORTANT problem and people are dying while we're waiting for city-wide leadership to achieve some form of cooperation.

  1. The homicide "spike" has been going on for years. It's nothing new. And neither is a "new" crime plan. Just another acronym crime plan for the media.

  3. Nothing much is going to happen until residents of the east side become active participants in helptin to provide their own safety instead of complaining and waiting for the police to solve their problems.
Safe neighborhoods are those where neighbors look out for each other and have a regular working relationship with the PD. As long as the community lets apologists for criminal behavior like Al Brooks blame events like drive-by shootings at a church funeral on "the slave master mentality", they'll continue to be a part of the problem.
And the folks getting killed are right in their own neighborhoods.
The status quo is literally killing us.

  5. Another example of a KC fail.
The City has it's priorities mixed up. Businesses are leaving, public education is a disaster, crime is out of control, E-tax money is being wasted, etc. etc.

  6. This city is in disaster mode. So-called power brokers want everybody to run for office while secretly pushing them to fail. This isn't about politics. This is a free country. Wanna make an impact? Change starts with us. What we don't need is more politicians!!! That's what got us in this spiraling failure to begin with.

  8. In connection to the hot spot theory... Certainly sounds good on paper but PD should realize that crime is random; not anticipated activity. Who would have know a dead Black woman would have been murdered on 87th Crystal? Who knew a male, posing as a female would have been shot to death in Hyde Park? Or Baby Lisa would be missing for two months in NKC? What they should do is keep better track of the folk they release from jail and prision. That's your hot spot. Track these folk and their activity and change will be realized.

Quit helping KCPD pass the buck ,it's their problem and they are failing that's the story. The people deserve better than police double talk like Hot Spots.

Yeah, and the Jackson County Prosecutor's office has absolutely nothing to do with our current crime trend. The police lock 'em up, JACO lets 'em go! You're obviously a well-informed individual who must have the inside track on everything. Anyone here know the stats on how many felony cases the police submit for prosecution but JACO refuses to file on? That answer should leave everyone nice and angry...

  16. 9:00, exactly right! I worked a robbery this week where a female was attacked on the street without provocation. The female suspect knocked her down, kicked her in the face and head between 10-15 times and punched her causing head injuries and chipped teeth. She wanted to prosecute and the suspect was in custody. JACO said they wouldn't file on the case and the suspect was released. Needless to say the victim was extremely upset at the time primarily toward the officers who were forced to explain that it was JACO's fault. TKC gives alot of press and credit to Jean Peters Baker on the high profile cases but its the cases like this that something needs to be done about.

  17. Another problem with the laws, especially in JACO is this: You can rape someone, stab them, shoot them, etc. and if the Victim decides not to prosecute, the suspect gets away with what they have done with no consequences. The fact that that person can continue raping others, shooting and stabbing people is why we are dealing with such high crime. Violent crimes like these should be treated just like Domestic Violence where the state prosecutes on behalf of the Victim. On several occasions in Platte and Clay Co. suspects who have stabbed or shot someone without prosecution by the victim have been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, thus taking them off the streets, unlike JACO.

Is dead on...... the problem is that the Cops will never figure that out.
The Chief needs to quit the PR crap.
We already have a Mayor that's nothing but a PR Hound.
