Food deserts exist for a very good reason. No company wants to have an operation in areas surrounded by blight and become victims of endless break-ins, robberies, shoplifting, and homicides. It's a losing business deal by any measure.
ReplyDeleteAnd who would be willing to work there? The idea that somehow the city is responsible for using tax money to buld and support these grocery stores so that "we want ours" can show their political clout is a great example of political and personal cowardice.
If you want grocery stores on the east side, then work to clean up the behavior of the small minority who are allowed to run riot through the streets.
Or you'll have one Citadel Plaza after another.
