Despite recent media rumors regarding Kansas City as a tourist destination, it seems the REALITY is quite the opposite.
KC convention business is falling way off
It seems as if the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association is in a tizzy because nobody wants to come here . . . Luckily, there's a solution . . . BUILDING A 1,000 ROOM HOTEL!!!
Demand follows supply. Now that's sound economics. There's too much money out there. Gotta give it away to someone.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be interesting to see if in person conventions nationwide are off because of layoffs and expense cuts on trips and travel. I bet they are.
ReplyDeleteA thousand room hotel would be nice... we could call it Homeless Haven in the wintertime to keep the mentally ill and ne'er do wells warm.
The article comically describes the heavy weights in charge of KCMO's convention business and makes them sound like a bunch of guys coming up with ideas while polishing off a case of cheap beer. And the results would suggest that that's about right.
ReplyDeleteConventions, streetcars, hotels, all downtown. What decade do these bozos think we're in? Of course, it's easy to try anything when you're using other people's money.
More amateur night at the taxpayers' expense.
Your Precious E-Tax dollars being BLOWN.
ReplyDeleteAre you cock-gobbling e-tax supporters finally seeing how you got played for the rubes you are?
ReplyDeleteSomeone made a decision to spend about 600 K to study this boondogle and somehow they escape cupability. And we wonder why government is losing support.....
ReplyDeleteGreat comments, wish the Star's editorail board would read them. The mayor and council?
ReplyDeleteWhat's left to be said!
Talent abounds.
Hey, we're sitting on all this money here in KC, right? Why not use a little of it on a big hotel? If we build it, they will come.
ReplyDeleteSure.
Actually, it makes complete sense that the big conventions would choose someplace else where they can book the required hotel rooms within walking distance of their convention centers...we dont have those rooms so close and cant compete...so the conventions go elsewhere and the 6000 convention goers spend their $75 a day in Indy or Charlotte or some other boring ass city instead of ours because eveyone here is so fed up with our irresponsible gov't that we are shooting ourselves in the food...well I guess that is what cowardly backwards people tend to do...nothing ventured - nothing gained...it's pitty really.
ReplyDeleteIf they build a hotel, Tony you must leave.
ReplyDeleteDidn't the KC Star go to different convention venues and tell them how racist KC was? It was during the Francis Semler controversy.
ReplyDeleteWho the fuck would have a "convention" in a crime ridden RATHOLE?
ReplyDeleteA fly over shithole cowtown! those that defend that it isn't come from smaller shitholes that think Kansas City is SOMETHING! Hhahahahaha!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo new news. And nobody pays any attention to Bill George any more. Maybe he's the problem down at the CVA?
ReplyDelete2:44 is what passes for a Republican these days. Screw the free market, we want business subsidies and lots of them. Since we are so much smarter than the average citizen they need to support us so we can provide for them.
