TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! NEW KANSAS CITY TRADITION: MAYOR SLY AND THE KANSAS CITY COUNCIL DRINK IT UP AT THE END OF THE WEEK!!!

Here's a nice, refreshing and relaxing story regarding Kansas City politicos showing their goodwill by boozing it up together.

KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS TELL US THAT A NEW END OF THE WEEK TRADITION AT CITY HALL INVOLVES MAYOR SLY AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL GRABBING A FEW COCKTAILS TOGETHER!!!

It's a nice gesture and something that shows a bit of goodwill even after all the posturing and political grandstanding is complete. Also, this tradition is also something that would have never happened with Mayor Funky in charge.

These are informal gatherings spread by word of mouth at the last minute so Mayor Sly probably has to pick up the tab for his own pricey scotch.

"They have been doing it for awhile in order to blow off steam together," A Rather BRILLIANT TKC TIPSTER confirmed. "I guess it's just a way to show that they can take the gloves off and be civil after spending so much time politicking, nitpicking and trying to outmaneuver one another."

Personally, I think team building is a waste of time because playing for the team is something that only losers and suckers think is honorable . . . But I can see how it might be a nice gesture and probably beats drinking alone. Nevertheless, I guess it's good to know that TKC readers aren't the only people who feel like they need a drink after sitting through a City Council Session.

  1. This is a heart warming, feel good revelation, but what about the Sunshine Law?

After about six cocktails or so, this city doesn't seem so bad.

I can't seem to drink Melba cute though.

  3. Council's have been doing this forever with and without the Mayor based on schedule's. Only the location changes. The last group was so angry and dysfunctional that I doubt it ever occured to anyone to want to spend a minute longer than they had to together.

Plus, they had to toast their good luck that thy got to take credit for a big Barnes project this week. Not one of them had a thing to do with K-PAC.

  6. The Independence City Coucil got in trouble for something similar... only they were getting together in the mornings for coffee and breakfast at a local diner. Someone even filed a lawsuit claiming the group was talking about city business in these coffee chats and the group had to stop meeting... correct me if I'm wrong.

  7. Don't know how many of them are involved. but most sunshine laws prohibit a majority of a quorum. And the body itself gets to establish what a quorum is.
They couod always invite Lynn Horsley; she'd sleep through it.

  9. Good work Tony. This is good stuff and maybe now they'll invite the public if they're going to meet in secret.

  11. 6:40, I call bullshit. Barnes did nothing for K-PAC. The Arts weren't the old bag's bag. The last council did the parking garage. Kay will have to grab undeserved credit for something else. I'm sure she will.
