TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! CUTTING UP KANSAS CITY!!! TOP FIVE COUNCIL REDISTRICTING CONCERNS!!!

Brief TKC Aside: Too bad Katy Perry and her boobs can't come up with better music than Lady Gaga . . . She's certainly much more interesting to look at . . . But I digress . . .

Because the Redistricting committee has done a good job preventing fights before they start . . . Here's a look at the issues that should be on blast but are mostly going unreported. Until Now . . .

1. THE COUNCIL REDISTRICTING PLAN WITH THE MOST SUPPORT PUTS THE TRUMAN SPORTS COMPLEX IN THE 3RD DISTRICT!!!!

Good luck with this one sports fans. The Stadiums might soon be in the most violent part of Kansas City with politicos who are almost always in some kind of turmoil. I doubt JoCo visitors will notice but behind the scenes this will make City Hall dealings with Jackson County and the Sports Authority FAR more interesting.

2. THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY STAYS WINNING AT THE EXPENSE OF KANSAS CITY LATINOS ONCE AGAIN!!! WITH THE HELP OF CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER, LOCAL LATINOS STAY QUIET WHILE LOSING OUT ON THE CHANCE FOR THEIR OWN DISTRICT!!! 3RD DISTRICT AFRICAN-AMERICAN LEADERSHIP STAYS WINNING BY STAYING SOUTH OF THE RIVER!!!

Work to establish the "Old Bobby Hernandez District" is a bad joke and that's not just because that long gone and largely forgotten epoch in local Latino history is something that our younger, largely immigrant, somewhat undocumented and RAPIDLY GROWING community doesn't care about . . . Kansas City's Latino Community has changed, our leadership hasn't.

In the leading map the new 4th District includes Downtown and extends so far South and North that the traditional neighborhood politics and "ward boss" mentality that dominates the 3rd District won't have much impact in the the 4th. As always, The Ward Parkway Corridor will have the greatest advantage in picking the Council Person in this District.

However, getting the shortchanged by Congressman Cleaver and African-American leaders could be a blessing in disguise. This means that in the future local Latino Council candidates must do what leaders from the 3rd and some from the 5th can't . . . They must be able to transcend ethnic, racial and neighborhood boundaries and win among voters who aren't just family and friends. The recent win of Mayor Sly James proves this is possible . . . BUT NOT WITHOUT A BUNCH OF MONEY . . . Which is always the formula for success in politics anyhoo.

3. SO MUCH CONSIDERATION FOR COUNCIL INCUMBENTS GOES MOSTLY UNMENTIONED!!!

In fairness to the Redistricting Committee, they had a lot of concerns to juggle. They had to keep track of population, The Voting Rights Act, Neighborhood Boundaries, School Boundaries and on top of it all . . . They couldn't redistrict any incumbents.

4. NOBODY LIKES OR UNDERSTAND THE COUNCIL DUDE JOHN SHARP POWER MOVE!!!

Kansas City political insiders AND people watching this process notice that supporters and homies of Council Dude Sharp are attempting to make a power play for the 6th District . . . They're completely outnumbered and their maps violate most of the regs in this process . . . But the effort is notable if only because Council Dude Sharp deserves credit for trying to flex on this process while the rest of the Council is too busy making sure they turn up for photo ops.

5. There's no election coming up so nobody really cares.

The public meetings are starting up CHECK THE CITY HALL REDISTRICTING PAGE  . . . Attendance at City Hall is mostly comprised of newsies. The Northland "jumping the river" is kind of a big deal but only for a few suburbanites who didn't plan ahead and move closer to Zona Rosa.

We'll see if any controversy erupts but there are some rather skilled people moving this thing forward behind the scenes and most of the voting public is to busy watching the economy tank to really pay attention.
