Yael T. Abouhalkah has seemingly suffered from heat stroke if he really thinks there's going to be political fallout from a ruckus involving Mayor Sly's son Kyle.
Also the facts aren't correct in the headline of Abouhalkah's post on this scintillating matter. There was no arrest.
Don't get me wrong. Mayor Sly's son Kyle sounds like a world-class d-bag but then again so are most 20-something dudes from rich families in this town.
However . . .
This scandal WILL HAVE NO IMPACT ON LOCAL CONTROL OF THE KCPD because STL is actively pushing for that privilege and this town is out of sync and left behind on the issue.
The scandal will have no impact on pension, pay increase or health plan discussions with the KCPD because guilt by association isn't a strong bargaining tactic and the KCPD has much better arguments than mere gossip.
Again, I won't say the story isn't significant because it demonstrates that Mayor Sly's son is just as much of a cheeseball as all of the other dimwits with bad taste, no style and little imagination hanging out at the P&L District . . . Didn't he know there's a boycott??? For shame.
However . . . Kansas City's old school columnist is as out of touch as a guy won't allow comments on his blog when it comes to the political significance of this minor league P&L District dust up and its implications on City Politics.
As a former elected official, I sat my kids down and told them in no uncertain terms their behavior would reflect on me and the work I was trying to do. I explained that as such they would be held to a higher standard and unlike their peers, their adolescent fumbling would be made very public so they don't have the luxury of acting like a teenage fool. Having said that, I also made it clear they may be offered special treatment in certain situations (they were) but to never forget that afterwards, they had to come home and face me.

ReplyDeleteAfter reading the many comments on Tony's post of this incident yesterday I came to the conclusion the most upsetting remark to the officer by this young African American was...."I can buy and sell you anytime I want". Wow ! If Sly didn't take the kid to the wood shed for that remark, I would be surprised and disappointed.

ReplyDeleteAlthough city control of the PD will probably happen at some point, this incident shows that there need to be laws/policies/etc that have real teeth to keep political figures (and their family and freinds) from day to day police operations, promotions, hiring/firing, assignments, etc.
