KCTV5 BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES MAKES THE MOST IMPORTANT GESTURE AGAINST LOCAL VIOLENT CRIME IN A GENERATION!!!

Right now . . .

BY VISITING THE SCENE OF A DEADLY SHOOTING MAYOR SLY IS DOING MORE TO FIGHT CRIME IN KANSAS CITY THAN THE PAST THREE KC MAYORS EVER BOTHERED TO DO!!!

Check the headline:

Mayor James heads to Kansas City's latest homicide scene

Yes, it is a symbolic gesture . . . More to the point . . . Mayor Sly is leading by example.

This morning we discussed at length about the Mayor's commitment to fighting crime and his apparent silence on the issue.

NOW MAYOR SLY IS LETTING HIS ACTIONS DO THE TALKING AND SHOWING CONCERN ABOUT KANSAS CITY CRIME BY LEAVING CITY HALL AND GOING TO THE SCENE!!!

Mayor Kay wouldn't have dreamed of doing something like this, Mayor Funky never bothered . . .

Sly has a lot of fans and they probably expected this kind of thing . . . I never did.

This effort by Mayor Sly is maybe the most groundbreaking action against Kansas City crime I've seen after more than than a decade as a community reporter and a blogger. This simple act by Mayor Sly James makes it clear we really do have new leadership at City Hall.

Comments

  1. Now if only he could keep his son from being part of the problem.

  2. For once you are right tony. This is an important gesture.

  3. You are giving too much importance to an act that probably didn't even take an hour out of his day. If this is the leadership we can expect than maybe we should have just voted for the other guy. Or kept Mayor Funkhouser in office.

  4. That's more than the current Chief of Police does. But his blog, not written by him, might mention it.

  5. good job Mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  6. this helps with our crime problem.. just like alonzo does.. nothing. but you might feel better about it! fooled by smoke and mirrors, you deserve what you get. go to a few more vigils and pat yourself on the back.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Oh it probably helps... anything that high vis people can do to press for more morality on streets is good.

For those who wanna diss him, well what have you done lately?

    ReplyDelete
  8. If a lot of people want him to be there, then its his job to be there. I think he made the right decision. It was very Mayoral.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Did he bring candles or was that Al Brooks job?

    ReplyDelete
  10. The statement that Kay Barnes never went to a crime scene in patently false. I saw her on at least four occasions, news events perhaps, but she did show her sympathy and support for crime victims.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The Mayor is showing the type of leadership that has been lacking at KCPD for years.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 7:50 is correct. I was at a crime scene when a relative of a friend was murdered, and Barnes showed up. Didn't stay long, didn't accomplish a damn thing, but did show up.

Showing up at the crime scene is a nice thing to do because it sends the message that the leadership cares. But caring is not the same thing as taking concrete action, so don't get TOO excited yet.

  13. good for the Mayor.

  14. We should all be thankful that Mary Sanchez was pushing this issue. Mayor Sly is moving on it. No wait, it's been TKC all along pushing this. Kudos Tony.

  15. Brilliant politics.

I think we can all hope that he is sincere and will use his good office for change.

This city will be a Detroit Doppelganger if we get a grip on this violence.

I hope this is the beginning of change.

  16. Like the mayor reads Tonys rantings, HA.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Photo opp!

  18. Our savior

    ReplyDelete
  19. 833 In addition to reading TKC, it would not surprise me, if Mayor Sly is one of TKC's awesome tipsters. Never underestimate Tony.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thing is will people take a break from Chiefs watching long enough to notice.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sorry Tony..and Chuck...and Bryon
But the community and city needs more than just a political statement. Is it good he went...maybe yes. But would the city as a whole be much better off if he stayed his large Black ass in city hall and actually devised a game plan to combat crime. I have to listen to Alvin Brooks every weekend talk about crime tips, and not one solution.

So for all of you Sly fans your boy did good by going. Now what's the next step....

    ReplyDelete
  22. There is a plan and it proven to work and it's not community policing which rarely has an effect. It's called empowering your officers to crack down on all small crimes, rough up the j walkers, forcibly prevent indecent exposures(yes that's what I'll call walking around midtown with your ass hanging out) and when people cry racist, shove the crime stats up their ass saying my arrest rate is proportionate to the crime rate. Why do you think the high crime areas are going to start caring. Cause you have a. Couple green foots walking around during business(ie not high crime) hours.

KCMO needs to be tough on crime. And that includes drunk ( white rich kids from joco in party districts who fist pump to hard) let the state supreme courts decide where the lines are not some half wit bloggers and wanna be superheros

  23. For the first time in a long time, I am proud of my Mayor.

  24. Bloomberg BusinessWeek: "New Jersey is granting Panasonic a $102 million tax credit to move its North American headquarters-nine miles" (from Newark to Secaucus)
"State and local governments...are giving away $70 billion in annual subsidies to companies, according to calculations by Kenneth Thomas, a political scientist at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. State deficits could reach a combined $112 billion in the fiscal year starting July 1. 'The tragic irony of it is that in order to pay for these things, they're cutting other areas that really are the building blocks of jobs and economic growth,' says Jon Shure, director of state fiscal strategies for the Washington-based Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

and out of state people working in KCMO but living in JOCO are the bad guys......

fist pump for the mayor showing up 70 murders later....

  25. Tony's 'news' reports of late look like they've been written with the language skills and emotional maturity of a 7th grader.

This is turning into some sad shit.

    ReplyDelete
  26. And yet you're here late at night, which means that you're the kind of person who goes into a public bathroom to smell other people's shit. And that says all we need to know about you.

    Delete his ass Tony.

    ReplyDelete
  27. KCMAC and 9:23 are both right. But so is every body else on this issue, which has no simple solution.

I'm still glad he went, anything positive that will, or could divert the abberant urban culture away from death and stupidity is good.

The bully pulpit and all that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good job Mayor I'll be glad when the Police Department is under City Control.

    ReplyDelete
  29. as i understand it from KCTV's report, he was nearby when the call came in and decided to go over. i like the gesture, but was proximity to the crime scene and thus an easy PR "statement" the motivation?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Most news copy is written for the 'kansas city milkman'... an old j school phrase whose origination I either forgot or cut class that day.

That's an 8th grade level and based on many comments in here, I'd say that's about right for this crowd.

Part of a Mayor's job is to front for a city...and Sly's doing that. And better than the last ones.

As to coining a solution to the murder rate...other than full employment of good jobs, I'm not convinced there actually IS a solution to hotheaded, doped up people killing each other.

Maybe it's not the problem you think it is...if you consider that aside from a few innocents, its just Darwin's natural selection law at work.

As to the innocents, well their solution is to move the hell out of the ghetto where the thugs congregate.

That won't help the housing problem, but it might keep your college bound minority youth alive to finish that degree and stay out of the ghetto permanently.

  31. Actually 12:25, I go into public bathrooms for the same reason I come here- to take a shit.

Luckily we have you here, our resident expert on fecal fragrance and wall graffiti.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well said 7:26!

I applaud the mayor's attempt to generate some good PR on our latest homicide but also ask what's the next step. Keep in mind though, I'm not sure he has alot of power to help the rate other than increase the overall quality of life in this city.

On another note, he needs to clean house at home. His son is a HUGE contributor to the inner city problem!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think once the Mayor gets KCPD under City control things will run smoother.

    ReplyDelete
  34. For all of you uninformed. Deputy Chief Daryl Forte responded to every homicide scenc when he was the major of the the Homicide Unit. They had an 80% clearance rate.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 12:13 is that Michelle Obama?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Now the Mayor needs to call together all the Civic, business, church and community leaders together and ask for input on how we can possibly put the kabosh to the shooters and gangs so we can act as one on this stupidity.

I don't think he'll do it but it would be the one thing he could do that would be positive and have an effect. We have to fight this ignorance collectively, as an organized group, again, together.
