In so many ways Kansas City Star columnist Mike Hendricks is my white whale.
I've mocked him, corrected him and begrudgingly approved of some of the things he has written while I gnash my teeth in agony.
In many ways Mike Hendricks is the benchmark for the performance of the Kansas City Star and the last remaining columnist who really epitomizes the Golden Ghetto lefty journalism produced by the so-called Kansas City paper of record.
With far more perspective and much less personal animus, TKC READERS are interested in his career as well.
To wit . . . Check the latest note I received from an AWESOME TKC TIPSTER . . .
"I just looked up the recent Hendricks column (in the archives) and the column has been redone. There are no current comments, and he is listed as a "Guest Columnist" The Headline has also been changed."
As always, TKC TIPSTERS are RIGHT ON ALL COUNTS . . .
But what does it mean?
A rather informed opinion that pays GREAT attention to detail . . . "Note that town hall is now in quotes and that Hendricks byline has clearly been demoted. Another indication of his changed status is that on the first column it says "read more Hendricks" and has a list of his columns. On the second column it says read "more Olathe opinion" and has a list of columns written by various authors."
However, in the latest Hendricks column about book banning things are back to normal.
Nevertheless, the writing has been on the wall regarding Hendricks being ousted for quite some time . . . Because I'm a horrible person, I sit around in my (mom's) basement all the time and dream of the Glorious day when the privileged columnist is given the boot. Or maybe on this one I just get to mock a Star typo.
On the other hand there's a hope that "Perhaps the Star finally has an adult in charge" regarding recent staffing changes and that's probably a more adult and constructive way to look at things.

ReplyDeleteYou're right on. One reasons big newspapers are in trouble is that across the years they got fat. Too many people writing too little with too little editing. Columnist who only write their columns, and that only a few days a week, are a prime example. I mean, really, how hard can that be? I think we'd all like to cash that check. Turn a column into a reward. Produce five good solid stories this week and you get to write a column.
