Mayor brings back commission formed in the 1950’s to examine the method and means of funding the City
(Kansas City, Missouri) --- In 1955, the City Council of Kansas City formed the original Citizens’ Commission on Municipal Revenue. Chaired by future Mayor Ilus Davis, its mission was “To provide the City Council with recommendations for a city finance program which would correct present financial problems and ensure continuing city growth.”
Tomorrow, Mayor Sly James will officially reconstitute the commission with 16 of Kansas City’s most learned and talented civic leaders. “It is my pleasure and great honor to announce the members of the Citizens’ Commission on Municipal Revenue and charge them with examining closely the means by which we fund our city’s functions. I have asked a broad spectrum of citizens to lend their expertise and am humbled that each of them has agreed to serve the city they love. My sincere thanks to each of them for undertaking this critical task. These men and women represent different backgrounds, different parts of the city, different generations and different political views, but each brings a keen intellect for city finances and a wealth of experience that will serve our city well,” said Mayor James.

Bet this group has a lot of his donors in it.
ReplyDeleteThese committee are great pr but do nothing. We elected a Council let them do their jobs.
ReplyDeleteSly the sellout Mayor.
ReplyDeleteThe fat fuck mayor.
ReplyDeleteWhen is the mayor going to speak about the violence?
ReplyDeleteThe Sly James Bully Brigade has recalled me to service (only the latest in a long string of bullies):
ReplyDeleteI thought I would share another opinion. From my cave in West Virginia I used my keyboard & my multi-pass to make financial contributions to Brandon Ellington's campaign. I am listed on his web site as a supporter. I did this because Brandon represents the solution to the violence. I wish the mayor would help him. This is just one of the emails I received:
Michael Hart here. I'm the guy who created, organized and launched the recall effort against your brother Mark Funkhouser.
First let me say that I've really enjoyed reading your comments on TKC over the past year or so. I'd also like to continue reading your comments and opinions regarding everything newsworthy and otherwise here in KC. Just because Mark is gone is no reason to sign off for now-or ever. I'll go even a bit further and tell you that I couldn't tell from your comments and opinions that you're uneducated. And, frankly, being educated really doesn't matter. Level headed, precise observations-along with the occasional mad rant-thats the stuff we're all made of.
You've made new friends here in KC Byron, plain and simple. Even if only online, you've made new friends.
I hope you'll be back to challenge my crazy rants, along with those of all the others who post comments on TKC!!
Hope to hear from you soon,
Michael Hart
If you criticize the mayor in a post about him, the Sly James Bully Brigade will pounce on you. After ordering me to commit suicide they criticized me for not engaging them directly. I stand up to bullies, its the nature of my PTSD.
With the right people this type of commission could be effective. There are too many taxes on the books in KC that are obsolete and costly to collect. No way the clowns on the council have the intelligence or education to understand financial matters. Some REAL businesspeople, economists and tax lawyers could probably come up with some new ideas. More than likely it will be filled with developers.
ReplyDeleteI found this comment by S.O.S.
ReplyDelete"The mayor has said that he's NOT going to make public comments about violence and murders in KCMO."
THIS IS NOW HIS PUBLIC COMMENT. PRETTY LAME.
