And for the record, her aide Gina Boucher is also married to a firefighter . . . So, this works out nicely for her office and their pocketbook.

Especially when the city hands over $15 million every year to the failed Power & Light District. Congrats on getting a raise while your neighbors who pay your salary hasn't seen a raise assuming that person still has a job. Remember...you desrve it...no one else does. If this keeps up we will start seeing fire departments privatized. I never thought I would say this but after the attitudes of the firefighters I will be the first in line to vote to privatize it.

ReplyDeleteThe firefighter aopoligists are leaving out one very important detail. When they agreed to the pay freezes it was in exchange for no lay offs in a down economy. Now the economy is still bad but you get your raises and no layoffs on the backs of your neighbors. The best part is you are proud of it. What a bunch of little slimy weasels. ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for the former EMS folks that were forced to merge with KCFD which was brought to you by the city government, the Iaff 42, and its puppets, like Jeff Rabidoux, Dave Hutton, Rina Trowbridge, Jim Louis, and the other sub puppets! -EMS in KC is a disaster, when once ranked highest in the nation and now joke!!, now many run to the Kansas border when in chest pain, and other medical emergencies, in fact if I am having a emergency medical problem within the KCFD emergency medical 'B' or what ever they call it!! ReplyDeleteI'm glad they got their raises. And I think the KCPD need raises too. You can't pinch pennies when times are tough. First responders put their lives on the line so you can have a blog and complain about things! It's a 4% raise! That's a lot less than they should be getting under their current contract! Time to pay up KC. For police and fire!
ReplyDeleteI hear about all these crazy long hours for firefighters but when you subtract sleeping, working out, grocery shopping, washing their trucks and personal vehicles and just sitting around watching porn, they truly only work a few actual hours. Not bad.

ReplyDelete11:56, it's called "collective bargaining." When you go to Sam's and buy in bulk to save money, that's what a union does. Instead of a entity like the city quietly paying different salaries to people doing the exact same work, and making every worker dig and claw for a fair wage, a union organizes people together so that they all negotiate as one. In other words, they shop in bulk.
ReplyDeleteThose non-union employees have every right to organize just like the vast majority of city employees. Typically, the union employees are the ones actually doing the work. They staff the trucks, fill the potholes, drive the ambulances, shovel the snow.
Those that shovel papers, sit behind desks in air conditioned offices and get off every day promptly at 5 pm tend not to be union. Those that tell other people what to do for a living instead of doing actual work tend not to be union.
Maybe they need to use their legal rights to organize instead of complaining. It's not helpful.
Women don't dream about firemen once they realize they are a bunch of losers who didn't go to college and are partially disabled by the time they're 35.

Their raises have been frozen for 3years. Have you had a raise in the past 3 years? Think of the inflation we have experienced in the past 3 years. I feel a raise is justified. These men and women put their lives on the line daily.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many misconceptions of what firefighters and EMS personel actually do that it makes me laugh at all of this, and I am a firefighter for KCFD. Everyone has been affected by the recession, and I know of not one person who would turn down a raise right now. If it were the office worker, or the street worker, it doesn't matter. I din't take this job because I wanted to bully the city and it's citizens for retirement money, and the word FIRE on my back isn't about getting ass. It is about doing something that I love and will be proud to tell my children. I think that we all feel that way. For all of us, we don't get paid for what we do, but we get paid for what we are willing to do,....for you. I would be happy for you if you finally recieved an increase in pay. I know I am. If you don't want us to have raises, think that we are over-paid, porn-addicted fat asses that sit around our staions all day, that is the opinion you are entitled to. You, the taxpayer, pay my salary. You, the tax payer, have the right, and are welcomed to visit us at the station. I am sure that a pair of spare boots can be found, the question is, could you really fill them? Despite what you say, or how you feel, I along with my fellow brothers and sisters, will be there for you on the worst day of your life, the day when you call 911.
