  2. T hyping his own ego. Nice try.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Merrill huh? Well all th lushes follow him but they probably dont' drive clear downtown for their sauce.

    Add 12 points for Tony.

    ReplyDelete
  4. They shouldn't charge a fee anyway. Fuck them.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Why doesn't anyone address the violence in the African American community and the desire to keep that away from entertainment districts and establishments?

That is what this is about.

    ReplyDelete
  6. This is about Cordish accepting hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies and then excluding people based on race and credit access.

Requiring a person to be a member of a bank in order to enjoy publicly funded spaces is an outrage. Only an idiot (Cordish) would ever think to propose such a thing, let alone actually enact it!

    ReplyDelete
  7. So people who weren't going to spend any money to begin with are protesting something? Get a bank account whiners. You can open a free checking account from any bank and get a free debit card. It's not hard to figure out.

    ReplyDelete
  8. J.w. your an idiot. It never said anything about having to have a bank account. You can use prepaid cards . See its stupid people like you seeing only what you want to see. They have the right to refuse service to anyone at any time. If you can't get a pre paid then you don't need to go. Sorry they didn't drop to your level and allow EBT or other welfare cards.

Why is it everytime someone does something to better their stuff or make it safer or less attractive to people who commit crimes its always a race card played. I'm so tired of the blacks playing the race card. You get everything for free. You commit 70 % of all crime. The Mexicans that are here illegally complain they are being picked on. Yea you are . Your committing a felony by being here illegally. And white people are just as stupid when they get in trouble its the do you know who my daddy is?? I'm Johnson co. Who cares. Get over it people . The thugs in this city are KILLING at will. It just so happens to be blacks doing most of it. So all you minorities who are so upset over a place that is privately owned and has the right to refuse service stop protesting Cordish. Take half your effort and put it towards stopping the shit in your own yards.
You can bet your sweet ass if the shit that's going on down in the inner city was happening in my neighborhood , well it wouldn't here but hypotheticaly speaking it wouldn't last. Please start helping your selves with more important stuff then feeding Cordish ego.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You are missing the point - it is a Government Sponsored Entity that was built using the City power of eminent domain along with $300,000,000. It needs to be treated like a public space (because it is) and everybody needs to feel welcome there, regardless of race or economic background.

This is *our* city for crying out loud! This was voted on by the people! It required a vote because it incorporates public funds and was supposed to be for the benefit of all residents.

It is not an "ordinary business" due to these factors. It is a quasi-public space, meant to be used by everybody. Nobody should feel targeted for removal.

Remember, Cordish is the poorest person on the block. That is why $11,000,000 per year minimum is going out of the general fund to support their failed (racist and classist) experiment.

Can we not all agree on the *fact* that hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars went into this disaster? The discussion *begins* with those facts.

    ReplyDelete
  10. It is a disaster . Along with Sprint center and 18 and vine. This city is so screwed up . I hope ole sly has some miracle work up his sleeve. But I have a feeling after speaking with him a week or so ago at armour and troost he don't and he really could careless what the people of his city think. He has plenty to do with this broke city then worry about getting the police and fire under city insurance and putting the police under city control at this point and time I feel is bad idea to right along with this P&L light crap. I don't even waste my time or money on that place. I say close it down. Let local businesses get in. Turn Sprint arena into a soup kitchen. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yawn, I think we've beaten this puppy to death!

    I"m out.

    ReplyDelete
  12. And ends with this charge only being an occasional fee for certain events? Which would make one think it's an issue with event promoters. You fucks are dense.

For any questions or concerns, please ask to speak to a supervisor or please call 1-877-697-5347.

    Or

YOUR NEXT PRIVATE EVENT - KATIE MOHRFELD
    Send an Email

If you rent it out I bet you can make your own entrance rules too.

Why do you keep recycling the same facts that are well known but refuse to acknowledge the existence of prepaid cards at every gas station and grocery store in the city

    ReplyDelete
  13. 1003. The charge is everynight no matter the event . Every night at 11 or midnight.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I boycott KCMO altogether too much violence spreading from the inner city.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Orphan of the Road7/20/11, 10:19 AM

Just like parking is supposed to be $2 in the parking garage but they bump it up to $20 for Sprint events. (of course if you tell them you are going to a P&L venue the charge is still $2 although it was supposed to be free).

I've been twice, once for an alumni event and once after a concert was cancelled. Of course we left the joint as soon as we all got together.

Don't ever plan on going back, it's a white-bread-and-mayo soup sandwich more like McDonalds than a place to get a taste of Kansas City.

I was boycotting before it became fashionable.

    ReplyDelete
  16. thank you for claifying 1007 - i was unable to discern that from the original account that Tony posted from his tipster and the only fact to find in the other post are taxpayer figures.

10 more reasons to continue not going

    ReplyDelete
  17. Orphan hits the nail on the head.

    ReplyDelete
  18. JW--So I suppose they should also allow people into Chiefs and Royals games for free too since they receive public funding?

9:53--Sprint Center, named one of the Top 5 concert venues in America, a disaster? Way to ruin any credibility for your argument.

If you don't like the place or their perceived "wrongdoing", then dont go there. I'm not a huge fan of the place either. So you know what, I don't go there. Simple as that. As far as the place being discriminatory towards minorities or those of lower socioeconomic class? It's already been pointed out in previous posts that anyone can obtain a prepaid debit card at almost any gas station. Yes, even the ones in the inner city. So get over it. If P&L wants to discourage the loiterers who aren't going to actually spend money there, then I applaud their efforts. Did you think that because the city heavily funded the project that it would be free forever? You do realize the place relies on patrons willing to come spend money there in order for it to be a success?

    Stop whining.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Didn't go to P and L before the boycott, won't go now. Does that count?

    ReplyDelete
  20. 1059 if it makes tony look better - Yes, Yes it does

    ReplyDelete
  21. Don't go there, don't care. I'll never spend a dime there and moved out of KC metro. Fuck them all.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Already. Boycotting. And to the guy talking about the chiefs and royals.....THEY ACCEPT CASH JACKWAD!!

  23. StillAtMyMomsToo7/20/11, 11:52 AM

From what I understand, all the millions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies that is given to Cordish could have funded more important (and ailing) areas such as a crumbling school district and crime prevention. Basically we are prioritizing expensive entertainment venues over public welfare--yet we wonder why we are broke. This annual money injection into a district specifically marketed towards tourists creates more economic disparity and overall hardship for KC.

Face it: Power and Light is underwater. It's not earning enough profits than anticipated. That's why we, the taxpayers, have to recuperate the losses by SUBSIDIZING it. Who wins in the long run? Why the investors of course!

And we wonder why everything's gone to shit in this country, economically-speaking.

I'd wager precious Chiefs tickets will increase in price too given the outcome of this current NFL lockout. Of course they will not strike out this season; a multi-billion dollar industry is at stake. We, the public, get shafted again to compensate for the players' salary increases (as if they don't make enough already).

(Not to mention the NFL is being sued for head concussions. This confirms there will be a season this year after all.)

Way to prioritize, people. Put recreation over public welfare. We're just lining corporate pockets in the east coast. Yet we cannot correlate ever increasing economic disparity to the rising crime rate here in town.

It just goes to show that capitalists are really communists in disguise if they continually rely on taxpayer subsidizes to reduce overhead and other project expenditures (e.g. Truman Sports Complex and PnL).

Don't believe me? There are plenty of other examples nationwide mentioned in the shocking book entitled "Free Lunch" by David Cay Johnston.

This is why KC sucks. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Please please people stop bringing up inner city violence. It doesn't compare. You are trying to equate two different things. You say focus on crime on the east side and inner city...well ok. We will. Next week. But that does bot negate the fact that Power and Lights Practices are not fair.

So you say everytime there's something nice black people mess it up?? More like poor messes it up. Town center, Zona Rosa, Legends, Plaza, all have black patrons and have been around much longer than power and light. Have you checked lately...yep still standing and thriving.

But of course you will say "what about bannister mall and the landing". Blah blah blah. Once again, look around and you see poverty in those areas, not just black faces.

Black people go to all those places listed above, I see them all the time when I'm out. Difference is The plaza and those places continue to have a vibrant base surrounding it, the places that are failing or have failed do not.

So stop being ap afraid republicans. The world isn't going to end if you see more than 3 black youth together at your predominantly white venues. As long as money stays around it'll be ok.

    ReplyDelete
  25. wasn't it the democrats that brought cordish here and gave them the city? I think partisan politics is just as out of place in this argument as is inner city violence

  26. TKC: Keeping hate alive since 2005

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey stupid, were we getting along so much better before that?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I moved away from Kansas City. The violence was just too frequent. The schools are poor and there was too much fighting in the schools. Glad I left. It has only gotten worse.

    ReplyDelete
  29. KC is a shithole. We need a JoCo entertainment district. KC Should pay though. lol!

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1222 if you mean before cordish came - atleast the fine tax payers in KCMO weren't shelling out cash left and right.

This is about unfair business practices and tax-payer funds. not about black white mexican rep or dem. or independent as KCMACK would like you to think.

Apparently we all need to accept that MACK can fight sterotypes with one hand while using them with the other.

so in that case yes we were getting along better.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hey anon at 12:26, we have a joco entertainment district -- it is called the Power and Light district, and KC IS paying for it.

  33. Hey anon at 09:37, when you begin a statement with "your an idiot" you are already off to a bad start. You make a lot of ingorant assumptions in your post. I won't even begin to try to educate you. While it is disheartening to read such trash anywhere, It is very sad to see such crap come out of the KC metro to be per chance held up as representative of our area. Some school district must be proud of you. As far as your assumptions about J.W., they are dead wrong. He does live on the cities east side -- he doesn't have to, he chose to. He has had to fight city interference more than inner city thugs. The interference came from the mainly white power structure of the city. The one neighbor he had big problems with was white trash who came to the city from Independence. When things got too hot for her because all her neighbors wanted her and her trashy friends/family out (many of the neighbors were african American) she bugged out and moved to Belton. J.W. has gone out with little of his own resources and cut lots of abandoned houses in his neighborhood. His neighbors came to join him and help out. Yes, many of them were african American. The houses that are abandoned and being blighted are owned/controlled by big banks, investors and scumbag slumlords -- all mostly white. The white power structure of the city has aided the blighting of the city and destruction of inner city neighborhoods by not going after these people. Meanwhile, if you own your own home or property and are responsible and an easy target, you can expect the city on your property regularly for the smallest of infractions, until you too, get tired of the harassment, and leave. J.W. has and is fighting the good fight. He not only signs his name here, but he also walks the walk. Many of the racist ignorant trashy people who pollute this and many other forums across the US can't even be bothered to sign their own names, much less walk any walk.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 11:46--If you can afford spending cash on the grossly overpriced food and beer at stadiums, then what exactly is your argument for having to shell out only $10 on your debit card at P&L? Oh yeah, uh, Jackwad. There I guess I have some sort of credibility now since I've resorted to name calling. I feel like a bigger man already. Once again, stop whining.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'd like to make an ignorant assumption.

    ReplyDelete
  36. To12:22 & 1:13

Really?? You deduced that I blamed republicans for the power and light and that I say it's ok to pay the outrageous prices at the stadium??

    1. I was referring to an earlier comment about being mad about taxpayers dollars for private business. Whether it's $1 or $10, AT LEAST YOU CAN PAY CASH TO ENTER THE STADIUMS!!! Cordish says only a debit/credit card will allow you entrance. Money is money. The stadiums don't care your ability to pay, and neither does Cordish. Trust me!!!

THEY JUST WANT PAYING PATRONS!! ask owners of raglan road do they care how they receive tender for services or products. SO IF THAT'S THE CASE, WHY THE DEBIT/CREDIT CARDS JUST FOR ENTRANCE!!!

    2. Democrats let Cordish take advantage of the city. Ok. So what. Duuuhh!!! That wasn't my point. I was saying republicans... For which y'all are... Are afraid of EVERYTHING!!! It's too crime invested, too many minorities, too many gays,....just simple wussies. So I hope this helps clarify my position. Thanks you in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  37. its does Mack, you are stereotyping just like the people you are complaining about.

    You clarified it perfectly

and no i did not deduce that you blamed the republicans for cordish what i did deduce was that your invoking partisan politics that have no place in the discussion just as you said mentioning inner city violence does not either.

    and you bit. hater

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love to bite. Lmao. But ok..I'm sorry. I'll keep the scary republican references out if the haters keep the ridiculous examples of inner city crime out. Deal done. Now only if we could get this type of compromise out of the republicans in Washington. Dang... I did it again. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I know right, its about as likely as we are getting responsible spending from democrats in KC.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Boycott the P&L because it is lame as fuck.

Boycott JW because he is a pseudo-intellectual who proclaims to know shit he doesn't.

Boycott Westport so you don't get shot and raped.

Don't boycott anywhere because of a credit card charge.

TKC is Lewis Diuguid in disguise. Lewis writes a race-baiting column and watches the responses come in. TKC created an issue out of thin air and sits back and reaps the traffic.

  47. If only these same idiots could get this outraged about the crime and violence in their own neighborhoods.

    ReplyDelete
  48. 9:23 has it right. This whole thing is about the violence in the black community. Period.

People don't want to be around young thugs who will eventually start fighting or shooting each other or everyone else. Happens everywhere else, it will happen down at P&L.

    ReplyDelete
  49. 9:42... you do have a point. Watch enough TV News and listen to Tony and ALonzo long enough, you'd get the idea that anytime 3 young black men get together, one shoots one of the others and the third didn't see a thing.

Who wants to rub elbows with that kind of unpredictability? That'd make me as jumpy as flying in a jetliner with the same number of young arabs wearing white tunics and washing their hands a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Man, this is a tough one. It should be free to enter KCPL district because it was built on taxpayer moneys (plus someone earlier copy/pasted something from a KCPL Dist website about free entertainment). However there are the group "A" Whites, African Americans, Mexicans and the group "B" - Red Necks, Niggers, Wet-backs - I understand what KCPL is doing because you get the Group "B" in an area who goes in and drinks water all night and pushes the people who actually pay for entertainment. If you don't take care of the Group B's then your business will be killed

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well put, but you'd need to be a white, afroamerican hispanic to get away with using those words.

Oh we all love our PC when it suits our needs, whether liberal or conservative.

As a country, we need to quit celebrating diversity because it actually promotes division, given how tribal humans are. We should promote our similarities, not our differences.

That's not PC, that's common sense.

  54. Book a David Allen Coe / Chingy free show at KC Live. The problem will work itself out.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Radioman--Wow. I normally don't share your same views but you were right on the money with that one. I think everything from black history month to BET (black entertainment television) does nothing but create a separatist society. Equality comes when you allow it to. Why not start with dropping the "African" from African-American? No other culture in America labels themselves in this manner. Should I insist that I be referred to as a German-American just because my family immigrated a couple hundred years ago? See what I mean? Until progress is made on eliminating the separatism, it will always remain. BOTH sides have to come together on this.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anyone can get in free if they get in early...

And you can always just get a prepaid debit card if for some reason you don't have a credit or debit card (debit cards are not hard to get... if you have the money to be going to buy drinks at P&L I'm sure you qualify for a debit card)

3 easy reasons why they probably will charge the cover with a credit card: Less chance of someone robbing the bouncers for the cash, less chance of bouncers skimming cash off the top, people are willing to pay the cover
