Here's the most interesting City Hall Presser today . . . And by the way, that post title isn't ironic, Crawford really is the nicest guy in Kansas City and a great choice for this transition . . .
Mayor James, City Manager and EDC Executive Board announce John Crawford as interim head of the EDC
Crawford brings depth and breadth of experience to top economic development post
(Kansas City, Missouri) --- This morning, at its regularly scheduled meeting, the Executive Board of the Kansas City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) appointed John Crawford as the interim leader of the EDC.
John Crawford previously served under Mayors Cleaver and Barnes at the EDC as Executive Director of three of the city’s most important Commissions: Tax Increment Financing Commission (TIF), Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority (LCRA) and the Port Authority.
“We have tasked John, someone with deep knowledge of the EDC, with recommending to the full EDC Board of Directors the most effective and efficient structure for the organization charged with recruiting and retaining businesses in Kansas City,” said EDC Board Chairman Clyde McQueen.
“We need the EDC to be a lean, mean job creating machine. Every day, I need the staff to be singularly focused on bringing quality employers to Kansas City. We are a great place to live that supports an exceptional quality of life. We honestly have assets and amenities that many cities covet. Our recruitment and retention efforts begin at an advantage; we need to press that advantage everyday with every deal. John’s devotion to Kansas City, his keen insights into business recruitment and his determined outlook on development make him the perfect steady hand to guide the EDC in the interim. I thank him for serving our city in such a positive way,” said Mayor Sly James.
The Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Kansas City, Missouri, was created in 1987 as a 501c4 non-profit agency to manage the efforts of six statutory redevelopment agencies, three of which John Crawford has served as Executive Director. The EDC critical mission is to drive economic development and create an environment in which businesses and residents prosper in Kansas City, Missouri.

John Crawford is the only option within the city to take this job. He actually understands job creation and economic development.
ReplyDeleteThere could be no better appointment made.
Agree TKC and 3:51. Great choice.
ReplyDelete4:43 PM is full of crap.
ReplyDeleteI guess we lost all that business since John was on the EDC before because he did such a bang up job?
ReplyDelete4:44 PM
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the 4:43 comment, I gave a member of council who was in the market for a new aide earlier this year, and considered hiring Ms. Daily until Mr. Crawford advised them not to. It was the councilmember's understanding that Mr. Crawford told several members of council, who Ms. Daily approached for a job, the same thing.
I am not sure who this says more about, Crawford or Daily, but the record is the record.
@4:43: crawford used daily? laughable.
ReplyDeleteanyway, congratulations to john, he deserves this one.
You must be nuts to run this town or work for it. God luv you all!
ReplyDeleteDaily did a great job and I wouldn't be surprised if Crawford finds something for her. Crawford never, and would never, say anything bad about Daily and the work she did for him. I know that for a fact bc I am close to John.
ReplyDelete6:57- you're not kidding. The crawford-daily team would bring a lot to the city just like the campaign they ran- aggressive!
ReplyDeleteThe reason daily didn't get a job in the council office was because of glover. Unfortunately, it has been well-known glover did not take the high road after the campaign. He has been slandering daily and crawford all over town.
ReplyDelete7:05: Yes, it's a shame how Glover has taken it upon himself to slander, especially considering that he WON the election--you'd think he'd be a bit less vindictive considering he didn't lose. He's been acting like a bully.
ReplyDeleteAlways the usual suspects. I guess all the really good people have already moved to JOCO.
ReplyDeleteWhat does Crawford think of unsolicited bulk e-mail?
ReplyDeleteOh for fuck's sake 8:30, SHUT UP! It was so nice to have you gone since the elction has been over.
ReplyDeleteRight on, 9:12 PM!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about Crawford or anyone else, but God help me I LOVE unsolicited bulk e-mail!
Right on 8:30 pm!
ReplyDeleteWhat was it you said in the lead to this story? Oh yeah, "...brings depth and breath..." Ha,ha, what bullshit! T, you're starting to spin the horse crap with all of the other government and corporate pr bullshitmeisters. Crawford's nuts, by the way. And its not a reference to his balls.
