The robbery is old news and from the looks of the latest media reports . . . The people of Waldo don't seem too concerned. Riddle me this . . . This is a dude who held a knife to some woman's neck while robbing her AND he slammed her head against a dashboard.
Is this assault less frightening when performed by a white dude?
Is Waldo more comfortable being robbed and beaten by a white dude?
Where are the litany of news stories regarding Waldo being sparked into action against this dangerous and possibly deadly white dude?
Of course the only person who probably knows the answers to these questions is an old, Black hobo they locked up with circumstantial evidence and questionable DNA test results the last time the people of Waldo were panicked over a mostly media created monster that still lurks in the imagination of so many frightened Kansas City white people.
In the final analysis TKC wants EVERYONE to guard against potential attackers no matter their race OR the suspiciously lackadaisical attitude of Waldo residents when it comes to white guy attackers.

ReplyDeleteThe windshield survey seemed to reveal a disheartening sense of the normal.
While still terrifying, it is less so to be attacked out in public rather than the privacy of your own home. As a woman, I think there is something uniquely terrifying about being attacked in your home - your safe place - like the Waldo rapist did. Those victim's sense of security and safety will NEVER return. It is an especially violating thing. Women know to be alert in public but don't expect to have to be so at home.
ReplyDeleteAlso, at this point, this guy has only maybe attacked two women (if the cases turn out to be related), and only one was sexually assaulted. Much less than the five home-invasion sexual assaults in the Waldo rapes.

Third, it was in a public space and not in the privacy of someone's--a woman's--home. Finally, it was apparently the first of these robberies for this guy, not a string of robberies, according to the article. It was the first time this guy did this, likely. Four good reasons why no one is in a "wide-scale panic."

Then Fox 4 hid this picture on their front page too. It took me about 1 second to find it because they buried the story below a breaking news about an apartment fire.
I get your point Tony. It is a conspiracy. They have put these pictures on the front page of all these news sights and didn't surround it by blinking and flashing lights in order to keep it obscure. Further, nobody from the news called me at home to tell me about this.

ReplyDeleteAs a young woman who lived in Waldo during the rapist attacks, I was extremely scared and on edge. The idea of waking up to someone in your home was utterly terrifying. The fact that this happened around 5 times, made the idea that he could be in MY bedroom and ruin MY life, seemed like a very real and paralyzing possibility.
ReplyDeleteHOWEVER, in public, I am less fearful of being attacked because I can make noise and hopefully someone would hear me. I might be able to run away and I would not be as trapped. Regardless if the suspect was a woman, man, black, white, etc I am not even REMOTELY as scared as I was during the previous rapist attacks.
Before you compare apples to oranges, you may want to ask women how they feel. I get the sense that you thrive on being controversial, but at least try to be controversial about something that makes sense. I would suggest removing this ridiculous post.
