JORDAN CARVER & THE MAYOR SLY MONEY QUOTE ON THE WATER DEPT. FOR SALE!!!

Because I'm more interested in Jordan Carver I might have missed this one if not for a very DETAIL ORIENTATED TKC READER . . . Check the latest quote from Mayor Sly on the prospect of selling off the water department:

Mayor Sly James took pains Thursday to shoot down any rumors that the water system is for sale.

“This city is not considering anything except getting a director in place,” James said. “The sale of assets is not under consideration.”

There's not a lot of wiggle room there . . . And that should upset SO MANY water company consultants setting up meetings at City Hall.

DEVELOPING . . .

  5. Ouch! Terry Riley's value just plummeted. Not that it was ever much above zero. Can a person have negative value? Apparently Riley can.

  6. Too bad. The Water Department should be privatized!

  7. There is a happy medium between public and private. It should be explored. Just not by ex-council thugs.

  10. Mayor Sly told Council everything is on the table related to Combined Sewer replacemnt. He simply said it is not under consideration-not that it won't be. There is miles of woggle room there.

  11. There is a LOT of wiggle room in that statement. Most water privatization schemes have NOT included outright sale of assets; they've either leased the assets or handed over operation of the assets (but not the assets themselves) to the private sector. And I suspect Mayor Sly Lawyer knows that.

  12. 5:37 is right, but Mayor Sly's statement is significant since it keeps the determination of rates with the City Council, rather than the numb-nuts at the Public Service Commission in Jefferson City. Just take a look at the rate increases that those people have approved for Missouri America Water......OUTRAGEOUS!!!! Plus, that company can't even come to terms of agreement with its union, who is threatening a strike.
