Like it or not, there's no denying that this cowtown has been in a slump for quite a long time. Our pro-sports teams lead the way in making LOSING a constant fact of life in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Downtown Renaissance never materialized.
The Global Economic Meltdown hit this town hard while so many newsies simply refused to see it as a reality and talked up a recovery that still hasn't come to pass for the past couple of years now.
Violence and a HORRIFIC murder rate still plague Kansas City as well.
But now there's just a modicum of hope that this town is regaining its footing with no help from an alleged economic recovery . . . Because it looks like the housing bubble might burst again and China is already calling the U.S. a deadbeat nation.
But the key to a local turnaround is because it just seems like Kansas City is growing accustomed to harsh times.
To wit . . . Here are some items that offer more hope than the promises of local politicos . . .
KANSAS CITY SLUTWALK LOOKS LIKE IT COULD BE A BIG DEAL!!!
It's nice to see that the locals are catching on to International trends against sexual violence and realize that the world doesn't end at their doorstep.
Accordingly, The Kansas City election seemed to spark quite a few people to return to the local political landscape or continue their involvement.
BRANDON ELLINGTON IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF A COMMUNITY LEADER STAYING INVOLVED IN KANSAS CITY AFTER THE ELECTION CYCLE!!!
If Mayor Sly was REALLY smart . . . He would find an INFLUENTIAL appointment for Ellington.
And because the weather is nice . . . Listening to music outside AND gawking at hotties is one of this town's best traditions.
CROSSROADS KC has a rather KICK-ASS Line up this season and a few of the shows even tempt me to leave the basement.
Two more hopeful items . . .
The New KCPD Chief is probably gonna be a Black Dude which would be an important GROUNDBREAKING move forward.
Somebody told me that the NKOTB/90s leftover boy-band d-bags are gonna be in town soon . . . Which is I guess is look at the future for local entertainment.
And, most importantly, this town's population growth is lead by Latinos and Asians.
While this cowtown still has a great many DAUNTING PROBLEMS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO AN OVERALL HOT MESS . . . There's just a bit of hope that to me is EXEMPLIFIED by the fact that the best part of a $200 million stadium opening was some d-bag running around in a cow costume.
And all of this has inspired tonight's homespun playlist . . .
As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun weekend.
Is that a Chick-fil-a cow?
ReplyDeleteDaryl Forte should be the next police chief. Highly-qualified and ethical.
God, not another Aggie or Son of Aggie or Aggie 2.0. The city can't handle another power-crazed, loud-mouthed hag. But at least Grimaldi bathes and doesn't use her hand for a Kleenex.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of funny to see a misogynistic cunt like Tony singing the praises of "international trends against sexual violence."
ReplyDeleteTry making it financially for a month with this craptub of a site sans Jordan Carver, dickhead, then talk to us about holding women in high regard.
True dat.
ReplyDeleteBigger utters please.
ReplyDeleteIf the next cchief of police isn't THE VERY BEST PERSON WE CAN FIND REGARDLESS OF RACE, and someone who is dedicated and has the guts to totally change the way the KCPD operates, none of the rest of the positive stuff you're talking about is going to happen.
ReplyDeleteAnd if city hall keeps being forced to focus on the tiny downtown part of the city and pour millions of dollars into upside down projects, there's not going to be much progress either.
Team Ellington is doing a great job fighting the total neglect of such basic city services as code enforcement, a housing department, and public safety. Meanwhile, the city has staged events at neighborhood cleanup for the television stations and then they go away. Why doesn't the sity just team up with folks like Ellington and focus on the people who actually live here?
If life were a movie set,and reality was just PR, the city and especially the KCPD would be doing great! In fact, there's already a set of fake buildings; it's called the P&L District.
SOS is right. Picking someone to be police chief because he/she are black would be a big step BACKWARDS!
ReplyDeleteThe "I marched with Maritn" crowd has had their day and the results are there for everyone to see by just driving around the east side. It's funny that in the same post TKC talkes up Brandon Ellington and then supports the kind of "our turn" approach that Ellington would never be a part of.
With folks like Ellington, Hopkins, and others around, let's turn the page.
By the way, what Al Brooks should get at the birthday party he's giving himself is a gold watch, not more city money.
"Violence and a HORRIFIC murder rate still plague Kansas City as well."
ReplyDeleteSo what else is new?
This has been going on for years with no one being held accountable.
Couldn't agree more Brandon Ellington is staying connected to the residents of KCMO. It is a shame.that Mayor Sly James hasn't cut the cords from the. old self appointed leaders and given real caring, committed young leaders like Brandon Ellington a chance.
ReplyDeleteGo Brandon Ellington, thank you and Team Elington for all the hard work and positive changes you are bringing to neighborhood 38th Chestnut. The city played it up for the media and nothing has been done since but is because of what you and your team are doing daily that others are witing to take credit for it. I can't thank you young man enough, you are a humble, caring young man. You have my vote.
ReplyDeleteBRANDON Ellington & Nelson Hopkins teaming up together would be awsome because they are two true leaders.
ReplyDeleteBRANDON Ellington & Nelson Hopkins teaming up together would be awsome because they are two true leaders.
ReplyDeleteQuestion why doesn't the city. team up with Ellington? Answer: Because the folks on the East side don't vote nor care about them ownselves. Good for folks like Brandon but the truth of the mattter is unleess you are wiling to sell out or be a part of the shake down then accesse is blocked

ReplyDeletePopulation growth lead by unrestrained breading still a blip on the radar though.
ReplyDeleteThere is a TARDINESS on the part of the anointedly appointed and stamped leadership in the black community to give notice and recognition to many (REAL) young leaders coming out of our community. I wonder what they are waiting on, and I keep stepping in the mess their (OLD LEADERSHIP)is dripping. It is time for the DEAD IDEAS/EGOS of past Black Leadership to step a side, council and LISTEN to our charges, they are the ones that will deal with the drippings. HUH!HOTEP!URURH!UNDERSTAND?
ReplyDeleteThe issue of race should not be paramount to the protection of the citizens. I understand the Cricket cell phone store across from the Linwood Police Station closed this week because all employees left after the store was robbed at gunpoint twice last week. Across from the Police Station... Get It?
ReplyDelete10:50 * So true, we the younger leadership i s stepping up and making a difference even if the media is not writing or following us around with cameras. I know that Brandon Ellington is carving out a well organized following of all ages. He keeps giving back to our community . I don't know if outsiders are aware that Brandon Ellington & Paul Pierce having been instructing our youth every Wed. at Emanuel Community. 35th Prospect *free*. They are teaching them about the law , politics & government. My daughter enjoys this class because she says they are actually listening to the youth and it makes them feel important. I didn't vote in the last election cause I never seen or meet an elected official unless they were running for office but after learning that this what the elected officials were counting on I will be voting next time. Yes I sat in on the class and learned something.
ReplyDeleteRumor has it that Brandon Ellington is going to run for "J.Hughes" state rep.seat.
ReplyDelete12:38 That's not a rumor that's a fact, several folks had been courting Brandon Ellington to run in the special election for CURLS vancant seat but he lived 1 block out of the boundries and he wasn't going to lie like RICE & Fletcher just to run for office. Fletcher & Ellington would have made a perfect team.
ReplyDeleteBrandon Ellington for State Rep., there is plenty of good work he could do in Jefferson City unlike our recent reps that did't to shit the last session.
ReplyDeleteI just saw a member of Team Ellington and they told me that they think he's going to run and he will make a announcement in Sept.
ReplyDeleteRichard Brown who aided Sanders Brooks announced that he is also running for L.Hughes seat and he has Freedoms backing
ReplyDeleteMark Bryant's son can't think of his name is suppose to be running also.
ReplyDeleteTEAM ELLINGTON.
ReplyDeleteWow Brandon Ellington has been busy, he has formed a political pac, Liberation Political Party and they are working underground with some heavy grassroot groups that are supporting him 100% .
ReplyDeleteThat guy running was a set up. In a real prank he would have been smacked down.
ReplyDeleteIs Mark Bryant's son as big of a racist dumbshit as his dad?
ReplyDeleteGotta let you know girl you lookin good you alright. All night.
ReplyDelete9:12, never new Mark Bryant to be a racist but he is a dumbshit.
ReplyDelete9 out of 10 white people recommend Terry Riley. Dude is that great.
ReplyDeleteok terry
ReplyDeleteBrandon Ellington is worthy of support.
ReplyDeleteErik Stafford is also promising, so lets just make a good choice.
I am certain others will compete.
Brandon Ellington should be supported but who is
ReplyDeleteErik Stafford? What has or is he doing that makes him or her promising?
Here we go again supporting friendship while our communities look like hell rolled over. I say support the ones that have proven there are there for all of the people. Brandon Ellington will be the best choice.
ReplyDeleteMichael Fletcher is running for Kiki Curls seat.
ReplyDeletelol with the redistricting Kiki Curl
ReplyDeletes maybe running for her old seat.
Erik Stafford is the one mentioned as Mark Bryant's son. As for as his qualifications and qualities, I'll let those paid to run his campaign do their job.
