TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! FORMER KANSAS CITY DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE VINCE ORTEGA CONSIDERS APPLYING FOR THE KCPD TOP JOB!!!

There's some important information circulating through my community which could soon impact all of Kansas City.

COMBAT ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS VINCE ORTEGA CONFIRMS THAT HE IS CONSIDERING THROWING HIS NAME INTO THE RUNNING FOR KANSAS CITY CHIEF OF POLICE!!!

I just spoke with him a few moments ago and while he says that nothing is definite and he's still weighing his options . . . He did confirm that he is "seriously considering" applying for the KCPD top job.

"Right now I'm just talking to people and listening to what they have to say," Ortega remarked.

From the vantage point of TKC, this move makes sense given the fact that Mr. Ortega was the #1 contender for the job last time around AND the current Latino population boom this town is currently undergoing.

However . . .

Mr. Ortega didn't speak to the topic of ethnicity or race but did note that, if he applies for the job, he hoped his qualifications would make him the best Chief Of Police for all of Kansas City.

Clearly . . . This news is a game changer in the KCPD search for a new Chief.

Again, Ortega currently serves as Assistant Director of Operations for Jackson County's COMBAT program and there's no doubt that Ortega's resume is impressive.

Check it:

"During his 30-year career with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, Ortega rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief of Police. He served on the department's Executive Committee with executive authority to command and coordinate the operations of the bureaus to which he was assigned. At one point, he supervised the KCPD Drug Enforcement Unit.

From 2007 through to his joining the COMBAT staff in early 2009, Ortega worked as a National Security Specialist for GE Homeland Protection, Inc., a division of General Electric.

He earned a Master's of Public Affairs degree from Park University in Parkville, Missouri."

Right now, TKC can independently verify that Mr. Ortega is meeting with several influential local people and leaders from throughout the Kansas City area in order to gauge their support.

Obviously, should he pursue this endeavor. Mr. Ortega would once again be a serious contender for one of the most important jobs in this town at an extremely critical time.

DEVELOPING . . .

  2. How's the national search going?

  3. I'm sorry . . . I cannot forgive him for making up the story about hearing Deb Hermann call somebody "Captain Taco."

  4. I was trying to figure out why Tony made such a big deal out of this guy applying... and how long and much bold was in the story.

Til I saw the Latin surname.

There's also a small time police chief job open in Juarez. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29303886/ns/world_news-americas/t/mexican-police-chief-resigns-amid-threats/

That job is probably bigger than this guy can handle tho. Not so dangerous in KC's police headquarters.

  5. what, he needs to quit his current job to apply for another one? why is he meeting with swells to see what level of support he has? wasn't he runner up last time? this doesn't sound like a cop who wants to be chief. it sounds like a politician who's afraid to make a move lest he step on toes or not have enough support. sure, yeah, i get it, politics goes with the job.

but in my mind, he either is in or he isn't. he either has the goods, or he doesn't. and race shouldn't be mentioned anyway.

  6. If the hair is Ortega's own, okay, apply.

But if it's a wig, stay away.

We don't need no more stinking fakes as Chief.

    ReplyDelete
  7. So if he does win and become Chief, will that mean that T will become police friendly?

No more call outs for the police?

It would mean that Alonzo will not be friends with T anymore....sad.

  8. You're in a tough spot now, Tony, having already called out for a black chief. Actually, apparently ANYONE as long as he's black.
    Now what?

    ReplyDelete
  9. With the rising Asian Population I going to advocate we bring in Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan to support Capt'n Taco, then the minority trifecta will be complete and Tony and Alonzo will have nothing left to complain about... right?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well thats the last we will hear about Tony supporting another minority that he has been pushing all along for the job. Toss a latino into the fray and you black folks will be forgotten just like yesterdays garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  11. So its BIG NEWS when someone with a Latino last name thinks about applying for a job?

When you gonna apply for a job T?

  12. @ 2:08 PM - Ortega never claimed that Deb Herman called him "Captain Taco." Deb made that comment within earshot of several different people, including two officers who worked for then Captain Ortega. There were too many independent witnesses for that story to have been made up.
Deb Herman made that racist remark.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Where are all of the independent officers who heard her make the remark? I'll tell you, they don't exist because Deb Hermann did not make the statement. In fact, Kraske was told the name of the person who made the statement before publishing his "story" that "Ortega heard a tape," but he didn't care.

For that matter, where is the tape that supposedly exists?

If Ortega would lie about that, I don't want him to be chief. He might lie about other things (which is a terribly bad trait for police officers).

  14. 4:15 had the funniest comment.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 4:33 - name the people who heard that comment being made. You can't because it didn't happen. Ortega, liar that he is, need not apply.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Deb, you're just mad because he is a minority and he has a Master's Degree and you barely graduated high school in Iowa.

You're career is over. Deal with it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. @ 4:57 - That's right. You read it in the paper, so it MUST be true, huh?!? The paper of record in this town would never misreport the facts, would they?!?

    ReplyDelete
  18. cuz, it looks like you need remedial English lessons.

  19. Good luck with whomever may be the next COP. It wont matter if they are minority or not. The reality is, our society is full of animals that prey on others. And when the new COP cant impact that, he will be criticized by the public that has unreasonable expectations. We hear great complaint now about the eastside violence. But what police commanders are now in charge of East patrol and the Investigations Bueau, responsible for these crime areas. They are minority commanders, and are having no influence. So if you think a minority COP is the miracle answer, don't be surprised!

DEar Mr. Tony: Race and gender considerations are irrelevant in choosing the next chief of the KCPD. My hometown, Washington, DC, is 70% black and has a white policewoman as chief of police--under Chief Cathy Lanier's leadership, DC has had the lowest homicide rate since 1963. We need a chief of police who will end the surge of violence that we have lived with in KCMO since the spring of 2008--what gender or race that person is totally, totally unimportant as long as they can get the job done. Take care. Sincerely and Respectfully, Ernest Evans

  21. Of course he was the runner up, there were only 2 candidates. Maybe they gave him an "I Tried" trophy. Had the same results in the Parkville and Independence processes??????

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ernest Evans is right get someone who KNOWS what they are doing.
I hope they bring in an outsider who can change the current KCPD organizational culture. Too much good ole boy thinking and favor swapping at KCPD now.

  23. Anyone connected with a do nothing group like COMBAT should be disqualified. The only thing it exists for is to provide a lot of do nothing jobs.

  24. I'm just glad to see the current police chief leave. crime has never been worse in kc.

  26. Vince Ortega is a standup guy. He would make a great police chief. He is fair and well-liked by all of those who work with him. He is also educated and has a great resume. He has brought great ties to COMBAT with his police background and some really good accountability has resulted. Regardless of his ethnicity, he is qualified and commited to law enforcement. With the alien problems, he would never be afraid to enforce the law and pussy-foot around to appease other latinos. He is a lawman first and foremost.I hope he is selected

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well at least with KCPD, Ortega will be offered a staff of secretaries to takes his notes and appointments for him. With his memory and personal schedule of hair, nail and workouts, he will be totally prepared to delegate his tasks. What has he done for combat but mingle with kcpd?

    ReplyDelete
  28. 6:04, being named Chair if PIAC is hardly a career ender. Deb did not call Ortega any names or make a racist remark. Ortega is not qualified, and his wife is a complete Gloria Squitiro. Just what KCMO needs!

    ReplyDelete
  29. 11:05 Chair of PIAC does all the work and then the council can and often does do whatever they want with the money. Not exactly a career boost. Look what it did for Mike Burke.
