Your Pick For The New KCPD Police Chief?!?!

We've had a pretty good discussion about the next Kansas City Police Department Chief . . . He's obviously gonna be a Black dude and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

When KCPD Chief Corwin finally announced his retirement TKC Readers didn't waste time talking up new candidates.

And later in the afternoon the impressive record of Darryl Forte became part of our discussion . . .

Everyone in the know understands that the top two African-Amierican contenders are both highly qualified and capable of doing the job . . .

What concerns me is that . . . Once again The Kansas City Star wants to make the decision on this important local job . . .

Search for KC police chief shouldn't be only an inside job

Search for new KC police chief to include public input

And here's a better link about the process from a TV news operation: Taxpayers to vet police chief hopefuls

And no matter how you feel about public safety, diversity or Denise Milani . . . There's no way that The Star should be making this decision since most of their readership is outside the City Limits or in the suburbs . . .

Soooooo . . .

IT'S TIME FOR TKC READERS TO RECOMMEND THEIR CHOICE FOR KCPD POLICE CHIEF!!!

At this moment . . . KCPD Deputy Chief Kevin Masters if the front runner . . . But, for better or worse . . . The TKC Comment section is a lot more objective than the so-called paper-of-record picking which voices they will choose to represent (or undermine) entire communities.

So . . . I'm leaving it to you d-bags to decide . . .

DEVELOPING . . .

  2. Get some new blood.
    Hire from outside the City.
    KCPD needs a change.
Needs a new culture, new ideas.
Right now KCPD is stuck in a rut.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Glad to see Corwin go he did nothing for KCPD and did nothing but give himself raises.

Worst Police Chief ever did nothing for the Patrol Officer on the street.

    ReplyDelete
  4. The taxpayers will be paying him $100,000 a year for the rest of his life to do nothing. That's the pension he adamantly defends as fair in the KC Star. Not a bad future for a 55 year old. Of course all the stress of being shot at daily and the job injuries will probably shorten his life expectancy.

    ReplyDelete
  5. "stress of being shot at daily"....
LOL you have to get out of the Police car to have that happen. Corwin was never shot at. It's BS that he gets a pension like that for so little work.

I strongly agree with Mary Sanchez:

    1. we should seriously consider really qualified insiders

    2. and ALSO really qualified outsiders

How proud ARE we of our murder rate, and our faux "community policing"?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I will vote for the AMPLY qualified Denise Milani.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I second the vote of 7:54 and also vote for Denise Milani!!! All in favor?!?

  9. I think its funny how I read about corwin retiring in the news before I hear it at work. Yes Im an employee of the p.d. and I also find it funny how as an employee we have NO say so in a new chief.

Forte would be a good option for a chief if they stay within the Dept. Masters is a joke and can't even run the violent crimes unit worth a fuck so how's he gonna run the entire dept . Plus he's got stuff in his jacket, is a racist and many other things.

    They need to out source.

    ReplyDelete
  10. KCPD employees are left out of KCPD on purpose ... get it.

The jokes on the employees of KCPD because to the command staff your PEE-ONS.

    ReplyDelete
  11. OUT SOURCE the Police Chief job PLEASE.

Employees at KCPD need a breath of fresh air.

A good start was get ridding of Corwin.

Please bring in an outsider to bring a real change to the PD.

  12. For Tony, the whole world is like the Ark: all the animals, two by two, everyone working to get "their fair share", evry decision made on the basis of race or sex, and every excuse imaginable for deadbeats who happen not to be white.
Come on up to the 21st Century, Tee. You'll find you can compete; or maybe not!

  14. Cy Ritter has the job, everything else is just gossip.

  15. Vince Ortega for Chief!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Cy Ritter you mean the guy eating at taxpayer expense at the Capital Grille. BTW who got disciplined for that? Like Nobody.

But KCPD would arrest somebody stealing a six pack of beer.

Or ticket them for not wearing seat belts when KCPD disarms their car seat belt alarms and don't wear them either.

  17. Daryl Forte is the best choice.

  19. In general, I don't like the concept of public input. The Police Board is paid to make this decision.

    It's really very simple.

Place some ads in the appropriate national publications.

    Select some applicants for interviews.

    Hire the best person.

As far as public input, I say just hire someone who is truly going to aggressively fight crime. Crime is KCMO's biggest problem.

    ReplyDelete
  20. "The Police Board is paid to make this decision."

The Police Board hasn't made a decision in years.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 904 is right we wouldn't want the PUBLIC to make a decision especially in a democracy. Let the BOP decide for the public even though for years KCMO has been in the top 10 most dangerous cities.

As if the BOP's decision would be any better. The BOP record speaks for itself.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @916 brilliant let's hold a special election and let 15% of the city show up to vote for the shiniest commercial. It's a republic not a democracy jackass. You vote for your decision makers not your decisions. God help the poor basterd that inherits this hot mess.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Look for someone with a record of reversing the trend in crime we have seen here. No fancy programs without proof they work, no BS talking without proof they have accomplished something elsewhere. Unless someone can convince us they were somehow curtailed by Corwin and could have done better, go outside.

  24. 9:54 Go back to school asshole.
Where did you get 15 percent from?

  26. To the employee of the KCPD, what are you opinions on fixing this ridiculous mess that KC is in as far as the murder rate? Why doesn't the KCPD go after property crimes? (I don't know why I ask since they don't go after the murders either). Why are you consistently busting people for insignificant reasons, ie. wrong sticker year on tags, broken license plate light, not wearing seatbelt, when these issue aren't even related to HOW the person is driving? Are you doing this to just get more people into the system? What if they can't afford to pay those fines? Do you throw them in jail over such offenses? Are you happy being part of the police state?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yael for KCPD Chief!! He knows how to make EVERYTHING better!! His journalism is so slanted, he's made a joke of the STAR and should be fired anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  28. employee KCPD... we're too busy eating steak and lobster at the Capital Grille right now.... we'll get back to you with an answer a little later.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @10:23 15% was roughly the voter turn out for the etax vote. you can find the exact number yourself.

did you even read your link? or was it the first google result for "democracy amerika"

    ReplyDelete
  30. Dear Mr. Tony: Race and gender considerations are irrelevant in choosing a new police chief. We need the man/woman who can do the best job of ending the now three-year old bloodbath in the black neighborhoods of KCMO. Sincerely and Respectfully, Ernest Evans

    ReplyDelete
  31. The primary reason for the KCPD's existence is to raise funds thru traffic tickets. Perhaps an ex IRS agent would be a good fit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. To concerned resident....A quick check of the crime rates in Kansas City (provided by the Yael) shows that violent crimes in Kansas City 50 percent in the last 15 years, and property crimes well over 40 percent. The department currently has 3 property crimes task forces operating in the city and huge reductions have already been reported this year, about 15% YTD. I have an idea, research...then write.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 10:55 -- in case you need it explained to you, wrong sticker year on tags, broken license plate light, not wearing seatbelt, are CRIMES. The police investigate and try to stop CRIMES.

You know how the police caught Timothy McVeigh -- a bad license plate. Do you have any concept of how many 'insignificant crimes' turn out NOT to be insignificant crimes?

If you want to bitch, do it AFTER you pay for your plates, property taxes, and WEAR A SEATBELT. Amazing how simply following the law will keep you out of trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 10:55 Fact Check.

Kansas is is ranked 9th most dangerous city in the USA ...

    US News & World Report.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @1:00 Yael didn''t take into account the drop in population, so YOU do your research.

    2:03, those aren't "crimes".
Crime - an action or an instance of negligence that is deemed injurious to the public welfare or morals or to the interests of the state and that is legally prohibited.

They are not injurious to the public welfare, however, since they do generate revenue for the system, it is a crime against the morals and interests of the statists.

    No victim = no crime
Unless you love your police state.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Drop in population?...are you friggin' kidding me? The population in Kansas City has increased from 431,000 in 1995 to 484,000 in 2010. Genius.

    ReplyDelete
  37. But the latest Census Bureau data say the city’s population in that part of town in 2010 was really 302,449, down by 20,248 since 2000.

    Down dumbo.

  38. I am 9:04.

This is a REPUBLIC. Not a democracy.

However, we could go the other way and directly elect the police chief. I would try be OK with that, too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You know, on second thought, just hire Denise Milani. She looks to best in the uniform.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Reading above...who was speaking of "that part of town". Aren't all taxpayers deserving? Even using your flawed math, a 50 percent reduction in city wide crime with an increase of population equals success. Your numbers show a 6% percent reduction in numbers in "that part of town" (as you put it). A win in anyone's book. You still haven't addressed the fact that you stated that the department needs to address property crimes and a quick search shows that they have.

  41. I would prefer that the BOPC look outside to break up the cliques and networks that currently exist. That said, if they vote to stay with an internal candidate I would hope they go with Forte.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @8:33
When TKC sates that the new chief "is obviously going to be a black dude", it's a perfect example of the old "my turn" quoto game that is constantly advanced on this blog.
Looking at the world that way is what has gotten us into and kept us in the mess that the east side is in. That's where the residents suffer the most from crime and violence and the lack of any relationship with the KCPD.
If the most important criterion for selecting the new chief, or anyone else, is race, why do you think anything is going to change.
This is a real opportunity. Let's not blow it; it's too important!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Public input and national search is just lip service. The decision has been made.
