In politics, people rush to mend fences after a foe has been defeated.
I've had to keep quiet while so many people compliment Mayor Funky despite his many failings. It's always sorta funny because it always happens the same way: A speaker will note the lame duck Mayor's good intentions and lament his unfulfilled promise while finally admitting the colossal disaster of The Funkhouser Administration.
In the Northland, a great many people thought it was somewhat remarkable that City Council Dude Ed Ford immediately called a popular radio show and noted a great many positive things about Mayor Funkhouser following the Funky defeat. It was a strange move because Council Dude Ford spent quite a bit of time taking Mayor Funky's career apart in once Council Session after the next.
As you might have guessed, I don't share anyone's sympathies for Mayor Funky or Co-Mayor Squitiro.

IT WAS WITH GREAT AMUSEMENT THAT I NOTICED A KANSAS CITY BLOGGER DOCUMENTING MOVING DAY AT MAYOR FUNKY'S CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS!!!
Money quote: "Presumably, he needed to be out by to day to avoid paying another months rent."
I can only wonder what they're going to do about the Mayor's illegal sign that nobody but TKC TIPSTERS ever reported. Hopefully they took it as a keepsake.
Still, I know that Mayor Funky can still cause a lot of damage on his way out of office and what's worse is that people might soon forget that he was Kansas City's worst Mayor nearly 100 years.
Funk failed to keep the conveyor belt of Little Debbie Snack Cakes and other staples of the American lifestyle running. He couldn't entice red bull to build the biggest factory in the world here either.

But maybe Codes will choose to enforce the law now that he's a lame duck.
He still needs to live here. I would hope they have enough sense not to go out in an even bigger blaze.

Kay Barnes run at mayor will have a longer lasting negative impact to Kansas City.
ReplyDeletePoliticians can be lumped into three categories: have a negative effect, no effect, and a positive effect. I think Funk accomplished very little and did very little long term damage.

Actually, if my memory serves me, his house is underwater with three maybe even 4 mortgages (as of a few years ago if not now). So, having no equity in his residence, he has no reason to stay in the Shabby Shack and can leave at his convenience. Apparently, he has a vacation shack which I would surmise from looking at the Gruesome Twosome is a run down and shabby as their existing abode. Let him move there... he can save money, be out of our lives forever and become a recluse and dwell upon how many people he let down throughout his term as Mayor.
I hope they use fire to cleanse the floor he and the Co-Mayor occupied at City Hall.
ReplyDeleteApparently Tony is correct. Past Mayors look better from the backside. Otherwise, how can Barnes even show her face after the impact her free spending has had on the budget? Burke should not have paraded her out there. People lost their jobs because of her and our services were cut because of her. I was for Burke and then changed my mind because he is either out of touch with citizen's or he is showing his true colors and spendthrift ways by claiming her as an advisor.
