TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! PROPOSED DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY HOTEL HOT MESS NOW TARGETED IN THE ANTI-E-TAX CAMPAIGN!!!

Look for it . . . And then when you see it . . . Remember that TKC told you first. Natch.
Anyhoo . . .
OPPONENTS OF THE KANSAS CITY E-TAX WILL SOON TARGET THE DOWNTOWN HOTEL IN THEIR FIGHT FOR A REPEAL!!!
IT'S SIMPLE MATH: NO E-TAX = NO MONEY FOR A WASTEFUL DOWNTOWN HOTEL SUBSIDY i.e. A VOTE AGAINST THE E-TAX IS A VOTE AGAINST KANSAS CITY'S PROPOSED TAXPAYER DOWNTOWN HOTEL GIVEAWAY!!!
Think about this . . . The Downtown Hotel Corporate Welfare Plan now seems like an inevitability and residents have consistently noted their opposition to the effort. Sadly, there weren't many alternatives to vote for against this plan . . . Opponents of the E-Tax are soon to tap into the resentment of this runaway project with some rather effective rhetoric that could turn even more residents against this the E-Tax because of ongoing Downtown development fail that still doesn't pay for itself.
Developing . . .
Jeff Roe using Tee to float both the E-Tax and Downtown Hotel trial balloons through TKC to see what arguments the TKC grist mill can crank out before Roe settles in a his messages and then goes to more widespread distribution to the general public.
ReplyDeleteAfter all, no better place than TKC to get some insightful feedback (both pro and con) and snarky rhetoric at little to no cost (although I DO think Jeffie owes Tee at least a "date" and a breakfast burrito for helping out).
Then Jeff will have his cronies blogging anti-hotel/anti-E-Tax nonsense to try to bait the pro-hotel/E-Tax crowd into the debate.
Let's see who all bites....
Tee still shilling for his peeps Tracy and Mahlon.
ReplyDeleteGive it up dude.
In case you didn't know, they both LOST their election bids.
(And just in case you forgot, Jeff Roe couldn't even get his candidate out of the primary.)
I think the half mill to study this hot mess came out of segregated funds: convention and tourism or something like that.
ReplyDeleteBut if (read "when") any financial under-performance develops, that will drain the general fund (fed by the earingings tax) in the same way the toxic TIFs and Power & Light do.
Just another of the many reasons to vote NO E-Tax.
ReplyDelete10:52
ReplyDeleteYou're right but that's only IF in the development agreement, the City agrees to use general funds revenues to backstop the project.
There are ways to protect public monies generally, and the general fund in particular, should the project under perform financially.
The "toxic TIF" is a more reflection on the inadequacy of the formulas and underlying assumptions used by the TIF Commission and the EDC in their decision-making process than it is a reflection of the advisability of moving forward with City backing of any particular project.
ReplyDeleteYou bunch of idiots. The E-Tax has nothing to do with the hotel or developments.
ReplyDeleteThis is just more B.S And Tony, I cant believe you type some of the shit that you do. This could hurt your own city. Stand up and be a man and do what is right.
Times like this I stop coming to your site.
Start doing some good and stop slinging the bs.
B.S. All of this has to do with Taxpayers money --- so YES it does have something to do with the E-Tax.
ReplyDeleteRead between the lines City Council. The voters are not in favor of this hotel and that is why it can be used in this campaign. I don't know anyone who thinks we should be involved in this effort. Let the private sector determine if this is a good business idea and serve as cheerleaders but keep your hands out of our pockets.
ReplyDeleteJust another shady way to keep voters from the issue at hand. The B-U-L-K of the earnings tax goes to pay for city services. H-A-L-F of the money comes from outside the city. KCMO residents will take up the bill for the loss of the city services. And if anyone has been downtown today and tried to park, I counted 64 cars with KS tags in the Pavilion Parking Lot alone. Seems that KS residents like to swing by to take their kids to see Pixar on Ice. I wonder how many of the MO tags were from Lees Summit, Blue Springs, Indep....we need for people who use our city to make money to chip in on the services that they USE WHILE THEY DO IN FACT COME HERE. I wonder if they'll still be inclined to come to the city with their kids (for 7 sold out shows) when we have no cops on the ground and the EMT services are nill.
ReplyDeletegood try axium. i support the tax, not the hotel. keep up the rhetoric, educated voters will be turning out to vote for their city on the 5th and it doesn't have shit to do with the hotel.
ReplyDeleteIs the Power & Light District a basic service?
ReplyDeleteBut how do we send more money to Kim George if we do not do this?
ReplyDeleteNope. But if the traffic jam back to KS yeilds some sort of wreck, you might want to utilyze a city service or two to pull your "Baby On Board" (I think I saw at least 20 of those window signs) out of the smoldering vehicle.

ReplyDeleteTonys Mission Statement
Tony, you and Pink Hair and Mahlon (who couldn't get 100 signatures to get on the ballot) are a bunch of losers.
ReplyDeleteThis city is so corrupt it is embarassing.
ReplyDeleteI wish the FBI would investigate political operatives in KC.
If you're going to be such a fucking drama queen 1:37, you should think about real issues of accountability. If anything, the "FBI" should investigate the undisclosed donors that are allowed to try and fuck over our budget, credit rating, safety, cleanliness, parks, roads, etc. with their pudgy pocketbooks without being held accountable.
ReplyDeleteIt's why the powerful and the rich spread money around to favor policies which most favor their interests which they wrap up as "good public policy" but which upon inspection is usually a self-interested lie. Shocker, huh?
ReplyDelete2:13 "undisclosed donors" "fuck over our budget," WTF are you talking about?
ReplyDelete------------------------------
Let the Voter decide. It's your tax money the Voters of Kansas City should vote on tax issues.
Any KCMO resident who votes against the E-tax is simply ignorant to the fact that this will COST them more money in the end. If you think you'll be giving yourself a 1% annual raise--pretax dollars to boot--you're simply wrong.
ReplyDeleteCity managaer Troy Schulte has already planned to raise your property taxes $90 for every $100K worth of value. He's also included a $180/yr trash collection fee which is currently a free service for KCMO residents. This was recently reported in the KC Star as immediate adjustments if the E-tax fails. You will also see cutbacks in police/fire/ems services. They may be minimal at first by I assure you that they will increase as the tax is phased out. Without question, additional fees or taxes will eventually be added to make up for the lost tax dollars. Lost tax dollars from KCMO residents, JOCO residents, Lee Summit residents, and anyone else who financially benefits from their job Kansas City's commerace has made possible for them.
That said, KCMO residents will be stuck paying out the 1% raises to all the other suburbanites who want to benefit from KCMO but not help out with the tab which keeps it going.
1% is only $600-$700 a year per median houehold income--before taxes! Do you really think this will make a difference in your lifestyle? I gaurantee you it won't. But I gaurantee you it will impact our metropolitan anchor in every aspect of growth, safety, and prosperity for many years to come.
The voters WILL decide, and you will learn that they will continue the earnings tax because they don't believe you because 1. You don't disclose who is paying you
ReplyDelete2. you lie 3. Even your yard signs are a lie (made to appear hand made, but not) In fact, your whole campaign and the morons doing your dirty work are deceitful.
Shit, I make under 20K a year. I'm already out more than I was with the tax if they impose a $15 a month fee on my trash. And trust that my ghetto neighbors won't pay it. Sweet, if this doesnt pass my hood will be a straight up shitpit.
ReplyDeleteThe E-Tax is toast.
ReplyDeleteHow many poor people in KC live houses over 100K. So if they are only earning 20K they are paying $200 in earnings tax so that $90 increase in property tax. I will take that deal. Poor people vote NO on the E-tax.
ReplyDeleteA vote for the e-tax is not necessarily a vote for the hotel.
ReplyDeleteIf the people who are promoting the hotel think it's such a great idea, why don't they put their money into it?
Tony, I can't believe you're not CHARGING the eTax promoters for this barrage of pro tax propaganda being put in here that we have to wade through.
ReplyDeleteLike 3:18. He's either a handler or a PR person for some developer or union. Scaring us like that!

So there!
The E-tax will fund the hotel. The E-tax funds TIF projects. I know of no other source of income KCMO extracts from the region that they would use to pay for it. www.kcmo.org/idc/groups/citymanager/documents/citymanagersoffice/earningtax.pdf
ReplyDeleteLocal 42 goons are behind the downtown hotel. Just another FD power grab. Overpaid public union workers caused the housing collapse, now hotel builders need our help. Vote against the e-tax unless you hate America like KU basketball whites.
ReplyDelete4:03. You forgot about the $180 for trash service.
ReplyDeleteSo many full of shit losers. Fuck. Vote yes on the etax, or pay more for less as a KCMO resident. That easy. Shut up windbags.
ReplyDeleteRadioman,
ReplyDeleteI am stating inarguable, simple math. For example; An annual income of $20K, as one poster stated they make, pays $200 a year in E-tax contributions. If the E-tax isn't passed, after taxes he will "net" an additional $170 take home pay given a modest 15% tax rate. The garbage pick up fees will be $180 a year alone. If the same poster owns a home valued at an assessed $50K, they will endure an additional $45 in new taxes. Total: $225 which adds up to a loss of $60 take home pay.
Now, these are the changes Schulte is suggesting during the early stages of the E-tax phase out period. The early stages of the E-tax phase out period still has KCMO collecting nearly all of the same E-tax funds that it's currently collecting. So my question is this; How many more taxes and fees will be applied to KCMO residents as the E-tax is phased out completely? Of course, city hall isn't going to hammer KCMO residents with the FINAL tax and fee increases until they have to--when it's completely phased out.
If the example I just provided netted a $60 loss for the individual making $20K a year, what will the difference be in ten years from now when the E-tax is completely phase out? $600? Maybe. ($60 x 10 = $600). $600, that's just about 1% of the median household income in the KC area. See where I'm going with this?
So, like I said in my first post, KCMO residents will be the bearers providing all of the 1% raises for all of the suburbanites who enjoy the financial gains of working in KCMO--while living in KS--and not helping support the core of our metropolitan's basic city services.
For your information, I am not a handler or PR person for any E-tax support group. Nonetheless, I am KCMO resident smart enough to know that I will be taking a greater than 1% pay cut while all the suburbanites are running off to Oak Park Mall with my $600 burning a hole in their pocket.
You forgot about the homeowners who are retired who currently pay ZERO etax. They will pay and loose their homes.
ReplyDeleteAll the intercity folks who shuttled voters to vote for Sly had better do the same and vote FOR the etax.
We (KCMO) should double the price of water that KCMO sells to other communities (most).
ReplyDeleteWe (KCMO) should charge other communities for the cost of using our Police helicopters and police SWAT.
We (KCMO) should charge other communites for the use of our Fire Department HASMAT.
