TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY MAYORAL RACE FINALLY, THANKFULLY TURNS NEGATIVE THANKS TO 3RD PARTY VIDEO!!!
Oh Glorious Day!!! We've finally got some bitching to do when it comes to Kansas City Mayoral campaign tactics.
Funded by Mr. Peanut, "Citizens For Responsible Spending" is running a rather nasty video hit piece aimed at Sly James.
THANKS TO A LINK FROM AN AWESOME TKC TIPSTER WE CAN NOW ENJOY IT ONLINE!!!
Even better, TKC WAS THE FIRST TO BREAK NEWS of the response to the advert from The Sly James camp.
Here's the money line from Mr. James:
"I have run a positive campaign centered on leadership. I am very disappointed that Mike has chosen to go this route. Real leaders don't change their character because they’re afraid of losing a campaign.
“Coming as it does on the same day that questions have been raised about a possible no-bid, insider deal for Mike and his law firm at the Port Authority, this all just seems like so much politics as usual. Mike has run a clean campaign up until now; he shouldn't resort to this kind of nonsense. If this is what he means by ‘experience,’ then he and I have very different understanding of what that word means."
Now, TKC is running a fact check . . . Because assigning blame for this thing to the Burke camp might not be fair.
AN EXCLUSIVE AND UNNAMED SOURCE FROM THE BURKE CAMP TELLS TKC THIS: "This is 3rd Party bullshit. It's Nutter and his old cronies trying to stay relevant because they know we are going to win. They want to latch on to our campaign because we're doing something new while they're using the same, old tired tactics. We didn't have anything to do with this ad."
To wit . . .
THE REAL TKC QUESTION IS THIS: SHOULD MIKE BURKE TAKE THE BLAME FOR THIS STUPID AND NEGATIVE ATTACK ADVERT OR IS THE (SELF) RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION OF THE SLY JAMES CAMPAIGN NOTHING MORE THAN A CALCULATED LAST MINUTE PLOY?!?!?
Johnson County journalists are too busy shopping this weekend to really examine this issue but it really is the most important topic of discussion regarding this last ditch campaign move.
Remember that Kansas City ethics rules (hehe) don't preclude a candidate from working with a PAC to develop a message which is the case in Federal Elections . . . However, there isn't much evidence to prove or disprove that the Burke Camp helped to design the hit piece.
Meanwhile . . . A BADASS TKC TIPSTER SENT AN EVEN FUNNIER ATTACK PIECE AGAINST MIKE BURKE AND HIS INTERESTING MISSOURI TWANG!!!
Now, Mike Burke and his peeps could fly off the handle on this one because Mr. Burke compared to the AFLAC duck is HILARIOUS and much more effective than 1980s style TV ads that most people ignore. . . But, just like complaints from Sly James . . . The burden of proof is on them.
For my part, I would rather sit back and enjoy the Kansas City Mayoral race now turning into a slap fight just a few days before an infinitesimally small percentage of residents decide Kansas City's political fate for the next four years.
shit.
ReplyDeleteWhile certainly attributable to a Burke supporter, the ad may or may not be attributable to the Burke campaign.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, the James campaign clearly took a direct cheap shot at Burke in their statement about the PA legal work, calling it "no-bid" when in fact, King Hershey legally, lawfully and competitively earned the bid award for the work. That AND the fact that it was a decision made by an independent, legally constituted board - a decision Burke had nothing to do with it.
Go home Jason and Diana. You're not as smart as you think you are or as above board as you make yourselves out to be.
ReplyDeleteYour desperation is showing and it is NOT becoming.
It amazes me what qualifies as a "hit piece" in this town.
ReplyDeleteLOLOL.
Now if the ad had said that during his time as a Marine stationed in the Philippines, Sly fathered an illegitimate child by Filipino bargirl who is now a grown Muslim terrorist, THAT would be a hit piece.
Pointing out facts that reflect negatively on a candidate (in this case, Sly's indecision about a couple of critical issues facing Kansas Citians) IS NOT NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING.
ReplyDeleteCircumstances don't make the person- they reveal the person.
ReplyDeleteIf the James folks are all up in arms about something as innocuous as this, there's no way they will be able to survive when the heat really gets turned on - like in the Mayor's office at City Hall.
Golly gee, the James campaign is all in a tizzy because somebody had the audacity to publicly point out that James has not taken a leadership role on two front burner matters at City Hall?
ReplyDeleteIf this is how they react to something as minor (yet factual) as this, then the children who are running the James campaign should come back when they are a little more politically mature.
I believe THAT'S what Burke means when he says EXPERIENCE.
Nutter is praised for dumping hundred of thousands of dollars to elect his cronies .He owns Sanders enjoys some of the lowest commercial tax rates because of his payoffs. It's wrong for anyone to buy elections but the Star is ok with him dumping 26000 in a third party campaign to avoid campaign laws. Nutter is a political boss who benefits from his money in campaigns some journalist will pull the covers off him and expose him for the crook he is.
ReplyDeleteTony's buddy JW hard at work again.
ReplyDeleteHe ain't no "bad ass" Tee LOLOL.
This is all a tempest in a teapot and shows just how bush league this little town can be! But it does show who still really runs KCMO and it's sure not any of the folks that are in elected office.
ReplyDeleteAnd the residents just continue to not vote and let this happen to them year after year.
Same people; same process; same (lack of) results.
No go out and vote for the e-tax, then go home and shut up!
Thanks for playing; see 'ya in four years, suckers!
So making negative statements about the other candidate that are blatantly untrue is Sly's way of staying positive?
ReplyDeleteI agree 6:05- these two guys need to get out their pacifiers- and for a Burke tipster to claim "3rd Party Bullshit", grow some nuts- you will be lucky to see 15% turnout for this comedy central moment.
ReplyDeleteBurke so wanted Nutters support. Well, he got it third party mailers and all the bs.
ReplyDeleteWho cares about these two spots. If it sounds like a duck and quacks like a duck then Burke must be a duck. Lol
ReplyDeleteThis is a hit piece? AFLAC went from 2% name ID to 80% name ID after running their first AFLAC Duck commercial. Mike Burke should be glad Sly James team is helping him.
ReplyDeleteInside the Nutter war room....
ReplyDeleteNutter: hey, Pat, could you make the camera shakier?
386-cpu-Pat-in-an-IPad2-world:yeah, sure and we'll just insinuate this is fro Burke. Did you call to clear this with him?
Nutter: Nope, no need. This is my thang. Maybe we should put the video on that new site...
386-cpu-Pat-in-an-IPad2-world: TKC's Tony?
Nutter: NO!!!!! I hate that messy-ican!!! No, that movie place... something tube.... dang what is that called?
386-cpu-Pat-in-an-IPad2-world:YouTube?
Inside the Sly Camp....
Young foolish Kander: Nutter Bit!! Nutter took the bait!!! It's UP!!!!!
Sly: You gave him Viagra? What?
Young foolish Kander: No, no, I mean Nutter is going negative... sort of...
Sly: How does that help? tell me again..
Young foolish Kander: We get to get all indignant and shit. Too bad the ad is flaccid. The old has-been could use a dose of the blue pill. But like the St. Paddy's Day T-Shirt said "Drink Up Bitches" We work it like a $5 dollar ho.
If Burke disavows the commercial, he should demand it come down, since it uses his campaign logo. Feigning outrage is why his experience is not the experience we need in KC.
ReplyDeleteSaying James hasn't taken a stand on the issues is about the softest attack they could have used. What happens when a Councilmember or angry citizen comes out against them, would they respond in this way? Would his administration get publicly upset and go off the cusp by saying all kinds of crazy shit?
ReplyDeleteDo not vote for sly james. It will another four years of fumbling.
ReplyDeleteSly James = Mark Funkhouser
Burke will, elected or not, always be Gib, the AFLAC goose. Even people who like him are laughing hysterically at him and will continue to. Every time he enters a room someone will murmur, "AFLAC". He so richly deserves this, he has been so filthy in this campaign.
ReplyDelete6:05 and 6:07 Exactly right.
ReplyDeleteNo one said anything when James' ground campaign started consisting of tearing up yard signs, push polling, and negative calling. Didn't see the Burke campaign throw a hissy fit when that began a week or two ago.
ReplyDeleteWHERE'S THE VIDEO?????....pussy.
ReplyDeleteIf it is a Pat O'Neill work product, the video will be here late and over budget 10:01.
ReplyDeleteWe need the reform-minded Sly James along with Jason and Diana Kander to sweep away the corrupt scum that has run this town too long: Jim Nutter, Dutch Newman and Pat O'Neill.
Where's that AFLAC video? Looks like it was pulled from YouTube.
ReplyDeleteThis would be at least the 10th video put out in support of Sly and insulting to Burke.
But no one seemed to be a cry baby about it, instead dealing with it in a professional and mature way.
This race sucks. It screams rich, ward parkway and white.
ReplyDeleteThe big attack piece is one guy calling another out for having no back bone; but after a tipster sends you the video filmed on his wall size big screen that back bone rich campaign quickly disowns it.
The big response is randomly comparing Burke to a big insurance company's mascot.
And now the war has begun with a bunch of lame ass comments. Someone actually wrote a dialogue with Ipad written 20 times.
I'm not voting for neither because both are lame.
10;38 - I agree, both are lame. Too bad voters didn't get it right the first time.
ReplyDeleteyep, we had a choice in the primary and we didn't show up. Now this is what we are left with. BTW-it IS an attack piece and it DOES use Burke's official logo, and yeah, it sounds like James is going negative (although less so for now) as well. Burke's been saying everyone was going to "go negative on me" since before the primary...he was just hoping not to have to throw the first punch...but then he did. I'm unenthusiastically voting for James, mostly as a vote against Burke. James is the far better choice of the two weak candidates.
ReplyDeleteMake no mistake, the Sly campaign is trying to dig up dirt. I've seen the sunshine law requests
ReplyDeleteWords out now, there was already a hit piece scheduled to come out on Burke from a Sly-related organization before this ad even came out.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lot worse than this G-rated commercial.
Sly has lost all credibility and knowing it was coming out before this aired makes him even more of a hypocrite.
So does this mean that Sly James is responsible for the really NASTY anti-Burke piece - from Citizens for Integrity - that hit my mailbox today?
ReplyDeleteI really don't like Burke at all, but even I thought the mailpiece against him was a bit of overkill.
Still voting for Sly, but I could do without the holier-than-thou attitude from his camp, apparently in light of that mailer.
Burke has made too many empty promises and claims to be the Godfather of all the needs of the community. Some people know how the government works and can read the innermost part of the person - whether on live media or in physical presence. There is a demon lurking inside the camp. And, what about the Port Authority article in the 3/19/11 K. C. Star?
ReplyDeleteNegative HIT Piece from a PAC that supports SLY James against MIke Burke is hitting Saturday...Sly is not as holy as his press releases makes him out to be. From the Committee on Integrity...How fitting..
ReplyDelete2:53- The Star's 03/19 article on the Port Authority is more unfounded non-sense from the same place as the previous unfounded non-sense on the Port Authority.
ReplyDeleteIt's called muckraking, kid, and here's the way it works.
The Star's editorial board makes an endorsement of a certain candidate.
Then right before the election, the Star runs a hit piece on the other candidate. Makes the Star look good- like they knew what they were talking about all along. Helps a reported keep his job, too, (times are tough for dead tree newsies, and everybody's gotta eat).
Hell, one of TKC's KICKASS TIPSTERS even predicted it ON MARCH 6th ("KC STAR ENDORSES SLY JAMES"- Watch It Play).
Now that you know how it works, wake up and get in the game!
Burke is clean.
ReplyDeleteHe had nothing to do with Port Authority decision.
And so is Joanne Collins.
And remember, James went negative first. And SLY's accusations are BLATANTLY FALSE.
I had nothing to do with the Duck. I wish I could have seen it.
ReplyDeleteIf endorsements matter, why hasn't Burke's own wife fail to endorse his campaign for mayor or even speak to the press willingly?????? What is she holding back or why does she find politics and Mike so distasteful?????????
ReplyDeletefrom gone mild blog: Burke attack piece was paid for by none other than Mike Burke’s own strong supporter, James Nutter. The flyer was paid for by “Citizens for Integrity, Calvin Bender, Treasurer”. There is no such organization, but Calvin Bender is treasurer of the “Committee for Integrity”, and here’s the report of who gave money this year. Nutter is, as Burke is proud to point out, a prominent Burke supporter.
ReplyDeleteNow, why would Burke’s friend send out an amateurish piece doing a botched hatchet job on Burke?
If endorsements matter, why hasn't Burke's own wife (Melinda Burke) fail to endorse his campaign for mayor or even speak to the press willingly?????? What is she holding back or why does she find politics and Mike so distasteful?????????
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely not a mike burke camp piece... no resemblance what so ever.
ReplyDeleteI am reposting 10:38 because I agree.
ReplyDeleteThis race sucks. It screams rich, ward parkway and white.
The big attack piece is one guy calling another out for having no back bone; but after a tipster sends you the video filmed on his wall size big screen that back bone rich campaign quickly disowns it.
The big response is randomly comparing Burke to a big insurance company's mascot. Also disowned.
And now the war has begun with a bunch of lame ass comments. Someone actually wrote a dialogue with Ipad written 20 times.
I'm not voting for neither because both are lame.
